Probably, I have successfully transplanted gearboxes from a number of donors, a TD ZX should have a BE3 box.

It WILL be the same.

ALL TD equpit cars of this eira used the BE 3/5 box and they ALL used the pull clutch.

As long as the donar car be it ZX, 306 or 405 is DEAFENATLY a Turbo D 1.9.. then you be perfectly fine. No problem!

The BE3 gearboxes on my previous BX DTR, & current Xantia TD, have exhibited weaker synchros on 2nd, rather than 3rd. On the TD, I find the slight crunch in 2nd occurs when the engine/gearbox oil is cold, the more so in winter IIRC. Will shortly find out over the next few months.

As regards using a gearbox from another model, I question whether the gear and diff ratios will be the same, although obviously as a system, it will still work. Sometime after my 1995 TD was built, the rev counter was changed (I won't say upgraded) from mechanical to electrical.

TD rev counters have ALWAYS been electronic, and got their signal from a Black Sensor on the side of the Diff, and picked its signal from the back the of flywheel.

Ive not known of a mechanical rev counter on Xantia or 306/405 td's - unless Im mistaken.

Oooops   I think I mean the speedo take-off (not rev-counter) on output from the diff side of the gearbox - thanks Paul. Another senior moment #-o
