Have you confirmed this with a gps, tomtom? when the engine is off is the needle on zero and in line with the tacho, if not may be similar to the problem i had on my C5, that was undereading by 8mph! all i done was to take out the console lift off the cover and re tack the needle on zero, so far so good. And funnily enough that had a new speedo quite a while ago, before i bought it.

I wouldnt be complaining!! You know then you should NEVER get a speeding ticket if you stick to speedo readings.

Most cars read fast. I know my Xantia reads 5mph fast, I tend to do indicated 75mph on the dual carrageway and know I dont need to slam on the brakes when I see a cop car like most speeders do..

Id leave it myself...

Agreed, rather it reading faster than slower, no chance of a ticket

it also leads to me driving too slow and pissing ppl off resulting in them doing dodgy overtaking moves.

not as easy as u think adding 8 on to a number, especially if u drive different cars throughout the day.

Construction & Use Regulations require the error on car speedos to be -0 to +10% (before 1/2/2002 IIRC) and subsequently -0 to +5%. Both our Xantias (96 & 98 reg) read 5-6% fast. But a constant 8mph error at all speeds ? is odd.

as mentioned the clocks have been changed (they are a year newer than the car and the mot sheet show the mileage jumping up 50k in 1 year), im sure the BSI have also been changed as i has a nice clean luggage label on it, i may look at changing the gearbox speed sensor but i doubt its that tbh.
