Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Last year the MOT man commented the N/S track rod was slighly worn and would need replaced in a while. It's now coming up to MOT time again and when checking the car over I discovered a bit of play in the N/S which turned out to be from the trackrod inner joint.

So found out on here how they come off and set to it. Struggled to get the rubber...

There's a copper grease sold by Wurth, it's called CU800 and it is substantially more waterproof and temperature resistant than other copper greases. A 100g tube will be about £12-15 but it's unbeatable for applications like the caliper to arm contact area.

Once you've used this product, you'll have difficulty going back to cheaper copper greases.

The speedo on my C5 wasn't working and the advice seemed to be buy new for a heap of dosh or go down the breakers and pay a smaller heap of dosh for a gamble on a used one.

I took it to pieces and swapped the stepper motor from the rev counter and it's fixed, trying to find stepper motors to fix them seemed impossible but after a hunt I found...

Hi

When switching on the engine after couple of days that I haven’t drive my car, the idle is a bit rough ( rarely it’s really rough like one plug is not firing ) . After one to two minutes when the engine warms up a bit the idle becomes smooth. Does anybody has an idea what can be the cause for that ?

P.S. I changed the idle stepper motor 2000...

I have two queries about playing MP3 CDs in my 2006 C5 with the RT3 Navidrive

1) Sometimes playback will pause for 2-3 seconds, then continue. I know that it's not a problem with the CD because if I start the track again, it doesn't happen at the same point.

I have noticed a minor leak/weep on the rear height corrector, so looks like a rebuild when I'm back from holiday :( . if you can access the side of the H/C without the linkage, you can pull the protective cap off, then under that you will find an 6mm nut remove this then carefully prize the diaphragm off of the edge of the H/C body,
now watch the order the steel dis inside the diaphragm,and spring come away,

Wifey dearest has multiplied recently - how awfully inconsiderate of her - and wishes to sell her 2002 Megane cabrio and get something bigger.

Mk 1 xantia, location of alarm siren. I found a real crappy looking 'horn' at the lh side behind the front bumper but the horn 'proper' is clearly seen front left of the radiator.

Well it was a nightmare trying to work out how to access the damned thing!

The Story
I had the seats down to collect a freezer. When I went to put the seat back upright, it moved about five inches then.... nothing. It was jammed. Then I remembered the reason the guy I bought it off had removed the seal belt anchor point on the floor... I didn't...

I have a petrol 2004 citroen c5 with Hydractive 3+. I bought it from a used car dealer and it has a leak that i am trying to get the dealer to fix. Morning,

Just a thought what type of pads have fellow members used on their cars.

In light of the MOT fail due to inefficiency of the front brakes
All front brakes should be 50% or more to pass, it is the first time this has happened to me usually they were a lot higher.

Hence my thoughts re brake pad manufacturers.

Checked the front brakes today and the pads seem to have full contact with the width of the disc. Extracted some fluid from the bleed nipples and no obvious air trapped.

Just waiting on the 40mm socket for the hub nut at the rear forgot it was that size.

I had just returned from a 150mile trip, and as I got out of the car I noticed coolant pouring from under the car, it must have just happened as I pulled into my drive! so how lucky is that?

Thanks for your help, Yes it was the one below the thermostat. I had to remove the throttle body and the air box, as well as all my new plumbing to get at it!
Ive replaced all the pipes under there now. Don't want to get it all off again! Just one little pin prick leak caused so much trouble!

Is the lower engine mount on the Xantia V6 engine the same as the one on the Peugeot 406 V6? My understanding is that they have the same engine, but what about the mounting brackets, etc?

Dave, I would think they are almost identical, save for the HP pump and therefore some aux belt routing..

You should be able to get a secondhand ES9 lower bottom mount easy enough from someone breaking xant, 406, 406 coupe, etc on the bay..

I do have one somewhere, but I kinda wanted to keep it for my v6 as my intermed bearing was knocked to...

First post here, I have just bought a 2002 C5 2.0 110 HDI Manual Estate with 134,000 on the clock, I have had Citroens before (since 1981 I have had Dyane, BX (2) AX and ZX) and love the styling however I need to ask a question about the C5 as it seems very sluggish to drive (may be because I am not used to it)

My 2001 C5 2.0 hdi makes a knocking noise at low speed. it doesnt seem linked to cornering just small bumps. i cant make it knock by changing direction quickly. its not that loud and 'disappears' at speeds over 30 mph. its hard to hear where its coming from, sometimes it sounds like its down the back, although the car shudders when...

Hi

I have noticed that there is often a delayed reaction when using the heater in the car when set to Auto.

I used compressed air to blow out the cave that the sensor lives in but it hasn't made any difference. If I turn the fan up to max this seems to wake it up and if I then switch back to Auto it is OK. I noticed for example the other day...

For a while now the Xantia's turbo has been noisy on load - somewhere between a whistle and high pitched exhuast rattle. I was changing the oil today, so dropped off the short flexi on the outlet of the turbo, but this is intact - although it is oily around there and on the end of the diff casing. Are there any other weak points for a boost leak?...

The Xantia insurance is up next month so I decided to get some quotes.

Cheapest so far is about £180.

Saw a BX 17 TD on ebay so decided to get a quote for that. (Had a BX some years ago and still really like them)

Cheapest quote was around £238.

I'm on an economy drive so changing doesn't really make sense especially as the BX is going to be...

Sorry but getting beyond a joke now. We have another problem, the rear wiper has stopped working. We are really starting to worry about it's reliability as a new problem is cropping up almost every week it seems :roll: . Anyway any ideas? I have had a play with the switch (fuse ok) and got it to drop about 5mm then it all stopped and the boot lights went out. When they came back on I tried again to no avail but It did keep shutting off the boot lights (this is new). The rear wiper has now stopped working could this be linked?

with my engine running (but stationary) i can get all gears easily, but when the car is moving i sometimes have to force it, ive had a look at the linkage, the big long one (number 2) and one of the small one's (number 3) seem ok but the other short 1 has a bit of play (5mm maybe), also the knuckle (number 1) has abit of play

hello i just brought a xantia (110 hdi sx on t plate) with electric windows and sunroof, the problem i got is fuse 10 and 11 which supply the rear windows and sunroof are completly dead, does anybody know where these fuses are fed from as i have tested all the engine bay fuses and they are all ok, or could it be a broken cable somewhere

I have a 1996 1.9TD citroen ZX. The car is averaging 48 MPG.

I have been advised that fuel efficiency should be better than this, and that cleaning the injectors is the thing to do. The advised cleaning method being filling a new fuel filter with 1/2 diesel and 1/2 injector cleaner, and then revving it hard.

Afternoon chaps,
Been nosing at drive belts and got me wondering if the listing is for a 1735mm belt would a 1733mm belt fit?? Assuming the tensioner would obviously have a lot less adjustability from the shorter belt, but something as little as 2mm, would it make a Huge difference to fitting??

Hmmmn, that's a good point! Remember fitting the cambelt on the Mi16, that was a tensioner off job!!

I remember the very early petrol XU's that had that odd tensioner (eccentric?) arrangement. Not seen one for years and I think I only did one or two, I remember it being a bit of a pig though.

when fitting new discs - are you meant to push the piston all the way in on the calliper or just enough to get to the calliper back on? i have always put it back just enough but a mate says he goes all the way back.

is there a correct way?

You don't have to wind them all the way back in to fit new pads, unless you have somehow found extra thick pads!

Do make sure you thoroughly clean out the old dust from the pad's socket before fitting new ones though.

Hi All
Does anyone know if the fly wheel from a 90bhp HDI will fit a 110bhp HDI ? As i believe my flywheel is nt great and i have been offered a flywheel from a 306 HDI which i know is a 90BHP.
I do know that the clutches are different one is a push clutch (90BHP) and the 110 is a pull clutch.

It looks like I have the common fuel ( lift pump ) fault but before I change it there is a fuse for a fuel pump relay does anyone know where this relay is, tried a search on fuel pump but result is words too common.

Our 2002 C5 SX has been developing a problem with its climate control. Its not the common problem of one side blowing hot, so its got me puzzling.

I can set the temperature to, say, 23 for both side, for a short time it appears to be about right, then it goes cold. So I turn up the temperature and for a while its ok until it gets chilly again....

I have the same car as you and also an a/c problem so i had it looked at by smile citrroen in portsmouth and after a diagnostics check they told me its not electrical but its the a/c compressor but then they also told me it could just be a bad electrical connection or even a broken wire but they would need to have the car in to actually clarify...

Why would the ABS show a fault in hotter days? Something to do with the air gap between the sensors and the teeth of the hub? Overheating of ECU? or a 'common reason' ?
