Xantia clutch replacement by dropping end of engine down?

hey-up.

Has anyone replaced a clutch in a Xantia 1.9TD 1996 Estate by unbolting the engine mounts on the clutch end, and dropped that end down through the engine bay for access?

Is it possible/worthwhile?

The clutch has not actually gone, it's just rather juddery and has been adjusted out rather a lot. Anyway of testing to see if it actually needs replacing?
250k with original clutch! How's that?

Normal replacement method if you ask me, did one last week. Used to get 9hrs for one of them, so don't underestimate them, bit tricky

That is the way, not massively complicated but loads of it

its actually the gear box mount you separate, this does allow the gear box end of the engine to till downwards,
i have just finished on on an R reg TD XANT,

you must pull the O/S drive shaft out of the intermediate bearing housing, and obviously the N/S shaft out,

i have a wonderful engine support beam that sits across the top of both inner wing edges,
and it has two adjustable support hooks, one for engine and one for the box,

In mine clutch + flywheel was taken down, just as you described above.
Crankshaft seal was replaced and all that work had to be done ...

Not bad.. my hdi is on 257k all original but no judder...

oh, apart from a 'clutch-kit', is there anything else I should get prior to doing this job?

Any replacement bits or special tools?
Or is it just the clutch kit I need really?

It just judders a bit when pulling away.

Anyway of testing? Or at 250K, I should just replace it anyway?

What's the longest mileage anyone has known a Xantia clutch to go for?

So far mine is the longest ive known! I know its done a lot or original because I only just touch the pedal and the clutch starts to disengage. With just 2 inch's of pedal movment the clutch is fully disengaged..

I think it may be an idea to replace the white nylon top hat bushes in release mech.

Yes, and if its got a drive pin holding the fork shaft to the cable lever, you may want a plan for this being difficult.

you NEED to remove the pin holding the actuating arm to the fork shaft, this allows the fork shaft to rotate and disengage the fork prongs/fingers from the thrust bearing on removing and re/fitting the box,
