Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Done every check took all the advice off here (many thanks people) and today decided just to take the plastic covers off to check the little magnets on the flywheel to see why rev-counter was not working.

Hi guys....
This has been bugging me for a while now...I can hear and feel The hydrolic pump running cutting in and out every 2 seconds...strainin The engine...I get a click every 25-30 secs off The accumulater so that's ok...I'm thinking its either pump knackered or internal pressure loss in system...my sudpension is also lazy and I haven cleaned...

I have replaced the belt engine by my self and I did a test...I try using a spanner on the crankshaft pulley and rotate the engine and it turns,but when I put it in the 5th gear and turn the wheel it did not turn.I am not sure if I can turn on the car because I am afraid that accures something wrong.please help me

I have struggled to load diagbox software successfully since formatting my laptop,but I have another laptop with vista on it,according to the guy selling the lexia on e bay, I can use vista as well as xp, just windows 7 that needs to be in xp mode....does anybody know if this is true?? I have a C5( 2005 1.6 hdi) where one of the gaitors is perished, I know i can get the gaiter as replacement but my query is can the push rod also be got separately ?
There is a quite a lot of play in the push rod knuckle so the reason to replace !

Hi guys really dumb question coming up.
I'm just the process of wiring up my taxi radio and it needs a direct connection to the battery.
Positive side is no problem as the quick release clamp has a nut on the bracket to connect to. The negative however does not. I'm not happy about clamping a wire down the side of the clamp and terminal but it's...

I bottled it with regards to the direct connection to the negative terminal and found a suitable earth point near the battery which gave a good strong signal on the meters continuity beep so will see how that goes.

I'm sure I have read on here of people doing this install into normal C5's.

I've got an exclusive and with leather interiors being so plentiful at the minute it seems worthwhile as would help my folks if they inherit it to slide my mum in and out.

Also can hatch and estate interiors be mixed like xantias could be or just a big no in c5's?!

Its all fitted, the plastic washer discs on the front of the runners on the front sets are a stupid flipping design!

They are all in, need a proper wash with a long nails brush to get the last crumbs out Of them and then gliptone time!!!

The big downside is that being hatch rear seats they don't have he built in dog guard...

Got offered a 00' 316 1.8 Compact....I said no thanks

I might have did it but the thought of more expensive tax,ins (probably) and less mpg put me off, plus it's BM's idea of a hatch....I prefer saloons or estates.

Mind you, it's alot better looking and driving than a C5 will ever be....(scratches chin..)

I had a bit of work done on my C5 last week (clutch and DMF, gearbox oil) at an independent garage. I was also told that the engine oil was changed. However, i'm a bit sceptical as the dipstick showed sooty black oil when I checked it a couple of days ago. I called the workshop and the owner told me that was normal on a diesel car as the oil turns...

It can potentially tell you a lot about how deep they dug; when you see receipts for things like oil pump chains and aux belt idlers you've an idea that the owner was fairly attentive to the motor inside and out. Also, looking for breaker's marks on pieces (eg, starter or swing arm) is another telltale of service attitudes.

The electrics on modern cars can do strange things when they are damp although a low reading speedo is unusual - and illegal. I would suspect that you have a faulty temperature sensor or poor connection to it. Did changing the fuel filter cure the other problem?

I've got a slight problem with my centre armrest. It seems to be secured down using small Velcro pads and the glue has become very weak. The upshot is that it sometimes opens upwards by itself and causes the alarm to go off (as the interior motion detectors get triggered when it springs open).

How is the centre armrest supposed to be held down?...

Hi! the auxiliary belt partly shredded itself and came off yesterday, reason unknown. All pulleys tensioners and bearings seem to be in good order. Problem is I can't figure out how to put the new belt on correctly. Are there any diagrams available to assist please? Haynes is of no help in this regard. I do have the correct replacement belt but...

On my latest acquisition, due to some misguided reasons, the previous owner has been spraying cellulose paint over the original flaking lacquer, making a silk purse into a pigs ear.

Does anybody recommend a way for me to remove this botch job, without doing too much damage to the original factory finish? I am assuming that the spray tin cellulose...

I doubt you'll see any joy there. If there was anything suitable, it'd be used already. There are a lot of cheat fixes that may work briefly including pale shellac and cyanoacrylate; creeping solutions will however often produce a darker area in response to their penetration.

From what I can tell, it needs a new windscreen and the sills need welding.

It seems like its had a fair bit of new stuff within the past couple of years including tyres, exhaust, spark plugs, pads and some shock...

Alright fellas, I trust your all doing well :-)
Our Xantia is showing signs that it needs some suspension stuff sorting, hard and bouncing around badly! When the height is set at normal ride height and the engine off you can not push down on any corner, when I push down on any corner it goes down about half an inch then is just stiff and wont move...

It is probably worth replacing all six spheres at the same time. Some suppliers might give a bit of a discount for a full set. As you will have the back up to change the rear spheres you should have good access to the anti-sink sphere, while as you will be working on the regulator, replacing the accumulator sphere wouldn't add much more time. Hi all,

Found this excellent forum through some google searches when trying to diagnose some issues with my wifes C5...

I was hoping I could pick a few brains about what the issues could be:-

Symptoms:-

Car drives as though there is no boost what so ever. We had to drive 300 miles last weekend and it was like being back in my old (F Reg!)...

I had a new intercooler last year as mine was punctured. I had no symptoms and fitting a new one has made no discernible differenc.

I suppose it depends on how bad it is and you can be certain it will never get any better.

well ,my 03 plate failed it's mot today, not on anything major, few bulbs, and parking brake not working at all on the off side, number plate light out also,this is my question, how do i get to the bulb above the number plate? got it out of the mrs scenic, dead easy, doesn't look quite so easy on the C5?? thnaks for any help.......

well, I got the unit out and it was broken and had clearly been glued before. My local dealer is 9 miles away so I glued it again,left it half hour and put it all back and, amazingly, it has all clicked back into place.....I may still buy a couple at the price they are,but for now at least, all bulbs now replaced....have to say, did one on the mrs...

I have just brought a new engine oil dipstick for my 98 Xsara automatic as the old one was broken. I put it in and checked the oil and it said there was none in there but when the engine is running it says it is fine, So then I checked the gearbox dipstick and that one is on the mark with the engine switched off. The 1.8 is the XU, stick in between plastic manifold usually or on the left (as looking at it so drivers side)

Gearbox one obviously at transmission end.

I think as I don't have any pics the best thing to do is to google for say XU 1.8 engine or suchlike and switch to images, there will be a lot of pics and you'll determine whats what.

hi,
I have had my lexia running but decided to format my laptop with the intention of using it just for the lexia,I thought there was a partition on the hdd which there wasn't so it wiped everything. I found an old xp disc with service pack2 and installed windows again,anyway, I have xp on my laptop but cannot get lexia to accept the customer...

I'm just about to pick up a clean, low mileage, one owner C5 hdi this week to replace the disaster that has been the Xsara hdi that, in turn, replaced my beloved Xantia TD.

Yes, Ebay are always sending emails , saying how they are putting things in place to protect the buyer. Maybe they should be looking at the scam merchants. I've had a water leak for some time and it's been getting more and more annoying.

I also bought a nice black exclusive leather interior and matching door panels last weekend :)

So started the job today. I removed the seats and carpets including the side trims and carpet in the boot.

This relates in a way to this thread about a smoking alternator onclick= window.open(this.href);return false; which was actually caused by hydraulic fluid leaking onto it, ooh nasty.

This is the pipe from the LHM reservoir to the top of the pump. I assume it is not high pressure as held with a jubilee clip ? so possibly the feed in ?

I've just managed to get up off the floor after receiving a quote for a Comms2000 unit for my 04 2.0 HDi Desire2 from the local Citroen dealer (you know the feeling)!!

Here I sit covered in muck from the engine with no idea how to tension the belt.
I read some posts here and looked at photos from suppliers but mine seems to have ther 'other' system. I always seem to have cars like that.
Most show a hole and a square socket, mone has a large allen key offset on one side and a small hole (doen't seem to be...

Hi

I am not 100% sure but I looks while the car is parking some fuel is evaporating. I look for fuel leaks and there arn’t. Can it be that while the car is parking fuel is evaporating ?

Let me guess, you park on a slight slope ? In which case when you turn the key on it will jump straight to an incorrect reading due to the tilt, but will then take many minutes of driving over (on average) level ground for it to correct itself as it slowly averages the varying reading from the tank sender. The thermometer on my 2001 C5 doesn't work. I understand this is a common problem and I need to replace the piece in the nearside mirror. Where can I get one from? Those on eBay are all second hand so I would imagine may not work either.

As I said the dealer did mine, but if you can pop the mirror glass out of the assembly you should be able to see the sensor poking out the bottom, it might be an idea to take the mirror adjusting assembly out to make access better.
If you do take the mirror out be aware of the two wires attached for the mirror heater. Yes it is a solder jobbie....

In practice (and what I think Peter did :lol: ) you will get away with unbolting it - the slop in the crank sprocket is small. My Relay has never had the central locking working either by remote or key. I note the wires to the rear door have been cut though. I seem to recall this is often a result of theft attempts as it can short the c/locking and make the doors open?If that is the case it maybe the c/locking system has been intentionally disabled? The suspension doesn't use much fluid once at operating height, it isn't circulated like the previous systems.
It is also possible that someone has put Comma LDS in there - which is green apparently, although there is speculation on it's suitability.

Readings are taken at the battery terminals. Before starting (but after car had run for 5 mins earlier) battery showed 12.94V. Started car and read 14.4V at battery, after about a minuts this...

Am i just being 'Blonde' in not knowing how to leave them on after locking car up ie at shops etc for a few minutes?
Looked through Handbook, still nothing.

Xantia has gone to the scrappy's after years of service.

Someones offering my a 2004 hdi xsara estate with full year MOT for cheaper than other 2003/04 cars . I can only afford a £500-ish car and this might come in around that.

The rear axle repair bits are about £45 per side (pin and bearing kit); you would be mad not to do both at once. It does require some workshop tooling as the rear beam must be removed and new pins fitted with a press.

It does have dual zone, both sides are the same in regards to the lukewarm temp. Car always seems to come up to full temp, coolant temp gauge to half as normal, and outside temp reads right consistently. Really have no idea.

Anyone had any experience with comfort spheres at all, is there a noticeable difference in ride quality? My C5 tries to emulate a coil sprung car and I was thinking of trying these.

Thanks for pointing out that parts company, it appears they do the comfort spheres for my version. just over £200 for four. :)
I read somewhere about about the anti bottoming out and indeed it is an automatic feature on the rear suspension I have noticed it on speed bumps over and under a certain speed whereby it goes from soft to horse and cart...

Does anyone know if the actual pumps vary between HDi models?
I ask because when renewing the fuel filter on my facelift C5 2.0 HDi 138 yesterday, I noticed just a few brass filings in the housing, so it might soon need a new pump.

If you already have 'brass filings' in the fuel filter housing I'd be looking to change the pump PDQ. If that debris gets in to the high pressure injection pump you could be looking at severe wallet damage :(

Just tried to jack up the car with by the rear sill jacking points but the sill on one side is beginning to bend and collapse as it gets more weight on. I assume it's a symptom of the dreaded rusting door Jamb:-

Had the HDI mot'd on Tues and to my delight it passed!
There was an advisory however that the front lower arm rear bushes both had some play. I called a local indy and he said that as a matter of course they change the whole arm as changing the bushes is difficult, he hasn't yet called back with a price.

Getting it right on the arm in the first place is vital, it is not something that can be adjusted once it is on the car.

A flat board or tabletop would work to do the setting up. But you have to align the bush to the correct angle with the wishbone and you can only get the bush to push on about 2 or 3mm manually. You may have to tap/push it on...
