Tyres...again

Post by qprdude »

Had the rear set fitted to the front last year but they are badly cut up. Need to fit two new fronts.

Can't afford to buy premiums now, due to buying a new house so recommendations would be welcome for a couple of decent tyres.

I've used Dunlop Sportmaxx RT for the last 2 sets on my C6. About £155 each for your car here (at the bottom):

They've been fine, lasted better than the Falken's often recommended, yet they seem grippier than my nerve and good in the wet. Awful in snow however, I wish I'd had winter tyres last time... especially when I encountered this exiting the Gottard Tunnel last year

How about these?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/245-40-19-SAI ... 3a846c6beb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

for £150 the pair

Had them on my previous C5 and will fit the same ones when the time comes on my new C5. Did about 20k miles and they had about 5mm of tread. No problems with noise but can't comment on cornering as I do mostly motorway miles.

Something not quite right about the ad. Price for X 2 tyres but there is only one available . The tyres in the photo are a different size to the ones described ,and the specs are not the same as the ones on my rims.
To be honest, I'm probably looking for affordable mid range rather than budget at this stage.

One available means that there is only one pair available. The photo is a generic one. Spec wise, dimensions are the same. Speed rating doesn't make a difference if it's 180 or 200 km/h in everyday use.

Can do for insurance issues though. If Citroen say one speed rating, and you fit a lower speed rating, and then have an accident, you may not be covered. If you fit a higher speed rating it is OK.

No insurance will cover you if you were doing 200km/h. The rating of these tires is higher than the factory ones anyway.

I wouldn't bother with Dunlop SP Sport 01's, I had a set of those on my C5 but found that the carcass isn't strong enough to keep the tyre in shape resulting in the tyres wearing unevenly 2/3rd's of the width across the centre of the tread. I'm now using Michelin's and find them very good without any obvious weaknesses.

Try ThreeA P606. I put a set on my 307. Very good in the rain. Very quiet and struggle to get it unstuck in the dry.

Or try these. My brother in law has these on his Vectra VXR. They keep 280hp glued down and don't wear out in 300 yards.

Interesting. Unlikely to find any reviews but will consider trying them.

The gap between premium brand tyres and cheaper brand tyres is closing quickly. Yes, I admit that there are some seriously awful tyres out there but when I do a tyre search I start with the cheapest and then work forward.

I consider reviews and the general presentation and reputation of the companies website and business in other countries.

As I said my brother in law is now a cheap tyre convert. Now having Zeetek tyres on his VXR. He laughed at me when I said I have ThreeA on my 307. Now he's running those Zeetek over the Goodyear he had previously and having saved more than half the price he's more than impressed.
