Supagard Paint Protection System

Post by hamster99 »

My wife is getting a new C4 and the dealer has recommended a paint and interior treatment called supagard. Looking at the brochure this seems to be some sort of clear coating which is supposed to keep everything looking better for longer.

Anybody have any experience of this and whether it's worth having on a brand new car.

Dealer I think quoted £300 although I would shop around to find the best price if we go for it.

Looks like a "ScotchGuard" type treatment inside and a wax outside.

£300 ? for a dealer to apply....NOT with their skills. Do the DIY Scotch Guard and take it to a professional detailer to polish and apply the outside before you go driving in it.

Do the DIY Scotch Guard (works well on seats and carpets) and take it to a professional detailer to polish and apply the outside protection before you go driving in it.
If you want to protect anything, get the clear protection film applied to the nose and bonnet.

Snake oil.
I've always refused it on new cars. Seems a lot to pay for a coat of polish.

This sort of rubbish has been used for years, DON'T waste your money. I used to be in new car sales and sometimes we made more profit from doing this than selling the car, it's basically a polish and we often charged that sort of money, it never cost more than a tenner.
I used a T cut polish and sealer system on the Xantia last spring, cost about £17, fantastic stuff, far better than any of this rubbish. For months, after rain, hours later the car would have water beading and be the only wet car in a car park, dried bird poo still doesn't stick and just disappears if it rains.
The fabric treatment is as said just Scotchguard.

Thanks all.
We've decided not to bother with this.
Certainly seems like a rip off just like gap insurance we were offered for £350 which I have found online for £100....!!!!

I would still look at the chip protection film on a brand new car.....just check out the car park and look at the bonnets of modern cars, stone chip all over.
Paint is thin, water-based and brittle due to the hard top coat.....It has no give in it, it is poorly bonded (not a good chemical bond) so any little stone will chip it.

I worked with a car valeting business that did contract work at a main Toyota dealer. The amount of cars we did this to, and could do 3 cars with one kit and was allocated 1/2 hour to do the car so you can imagine what it cost the dealership and the profit they made selling it at £300. I used to have so much of the stuff cos they only got one warranty per kit. Absolutely a total waste of money. You still have to clean the car regularly.

When my son bought his 107 on finance the dealership tried him to take all these "extras" I got him to refuse everything. The only thing they would not remove was the extended peugeot approved warranty which starts in 2 weeks when the car is 3 years old. It's going to the dealer for a service and mot, cost £109. That will be the last time it sees the dealers workshop. Never take any of the dealers extras when buying a car. The extras is where they make their profit.

As the others have said, it looks like a very poor deal.
Something like this that David describes in his blog seems to me to be money far better spent - less of it too :) (13th post on page 35)

Thanks Steve, those detailers that David used certainly looked impressive.

All I need to do know is find one in Sussex/Surrey....

Only way is to ask around.

There are a couple on the forum, Gareth and Vince but are only here very rarely unfortunately.

I'd buy a selection of products and do it yourself, for around £100 or so you could get a decent selection that will perform miles better than the superguard, here's a link to a forum and retailer I use. There's a wealth of knowledge on there and there's nothing better than getting your car looking good and standing back and thinking I did thank. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
