New spare key

Unread post by osx »

How much does it cost to get a new spare key? Doesn't need to have remote, just something that can be used as a backup. It will be for the new family C5 X7.

Example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C1-C2 ... 23495d8c37" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... I think it shouldn't cost much more than that

They didn't bother defining all the cars in the compatibility list except the Berlingo. The ad states (quote):

If you don't want a remote, a new key can be had for about £10. Get one that is ready cut though - I found that the high street chains were reluctant to key aftermarket keys they didn't supply. You need the 4 digit confidential code that came with the car, and a Lexia to code it. Don't buy a second hand key - they can't be re-coded to a new car (whatever the sellers try and tell you!).

There are plenty of different C5's. It states clear when you enter the exact model that it will NOT work the C5 X7

Maybe we're not seeing the same data if logged in to eBay (you're from UK, I'm from outside of UK) ... when I click the "show all compatible vehicles", I only get 5 pages of Berlingos, ranging 2008-2014, all engines ...

Same page but I entered the model at the drop down list. When you do this for the Berlingo you get the same message about not fitting Berlingo ;00

Thanks Richard.

So what I have to do is buy the one with transponder and cut (not sure why there is an uncut option) and then find someone who has a Lexia and knows how to programme it?

That's about right - you could get it cut yourself, but the cost works out about the same. It's easy to programme the keys with Lexia - once you find where it's hiding

FYI, I have never done that on a Lexia.....so be warned if you do make it down.

Had read about it a while ago but if there is any risk of bricking the ECU I might leave it for later.

Do not think that is likely, however there is a specific procedure to ensure the details of the keys are matched....would be good to have that printed to tick off.

I'm looking through the Service Documentation, there is an entire theory behind the coded key ignition sequence available, but so far can't find the actual coding of a new key to the transponder ...
