Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Anyone have any details about the reverse gear braking device on the C5 gearbox?

The third cable from the lever operates a plunger in the side of the box but I can't see what it's supposed to move in the box, the previous owner fitted a clutch and I'm wondering if something's been left out.

Not seen one of these boxes out of the car and looking...

The plunger can be accessed from the n/s wheel arch. You may have to remove the plastic arch liner, I can't remember. Looking at the gearbox from the wheel arch it's tucked away behind the end casing. The assembly is held in with one screw I think it's a T40. It should pull out with the cable attached. Check that the cable is correctly fitted...

Hi last week when it got down to 3 degrees my xantia seemed slow to turn over. Now its warmish again its fine. I also had all the dash lights and the rev counter /speedo going mad while starting.

I know the speedo/revcounter is due to low volts on the battery but I had kwikfit do a test on it and they say its fine and I had it on charge the...

Hi,

I have a ZX 1.6 and a few weeks ago gave it a coolant change, I thought successfully. However, I've now noticed that once the temperature hits 90-ish, coolant starts leaking from around the bleed screw on the top of the radiator (passenger side) - this one:

Well tomorrow is crunch time, my 2nd MOT for my V6 problem child. :twisted:

Last year it passed with only an advisory of a minor exhaust leak and an advisory for front brake flexi hose cracking , but a lot has happened to this car since then as anyone following my threads knows. :lol:

My front window went pop today - it's fallen off the winder.

I've got the green clip and rubber grommet as seen in this thread

and also the metal clip bit.

I've replaced the clip once before (rather more annoying, the thing was unwound), and all I remember about refitting the window to the clip...

make sure the clip is already inserted halfway into the rubber before inserting into the glass.

All sorts of little niggles are showing up now. Nothing major and all electronic.

Nearside wing mirror wont index in reverse, just sits there wobbling back and forth when reverse is selected and wont be budged by door button.

Rear widows have a mind of their own and pick and choose which buttons will operate them.

Front windows don't close from...

I started today with 600 miles on the odometer and the fuel guage showing half a tank.
I'd got to about 550 on the last tank to the halfway mark... so I was thinking I've never done this before .. Whats made this tank last so long?

Hi,

Seem to be having a run of problems with different cars over the last couple of years.... Wonder whether these symptoms mean anything to anyone...

- starter motor turns freely. But doesn't fire, almost like the code hadn't been entered but that's not relevant on my car, no immobiliser keypad

- the fuel gauge doesn't reflect the half tank I...

Does it start on ether spray? First check that. If so, then you have a fuel pump control issue - the pumps themselves seldom stop dead.

Should the car not even cough on ether spray, check the cambelt. If it's undamaged and taut, then I strongly urge to replace the positive terminal.

Made a start to do the timing belt on my S2 Xantia 1.9 TD.
Got as far as trying to take the covers off the timing belt, couldn't see any more bolts- the bloke I had do the auxiliary belt had knackered up the square hole, so had to turn the engine over slowly and lever the belt off. I then couldn't get the crank pulley off without having to make up...

Getting the crank bolt undone was easy- been cranking starter to do that for nearly 50 years. One thing the early Xants had in their favour- not so much electrical crap hung on them as on the S2. A mechanical auxiliary belt tensioner was always easier than the chuffing great spring affair that is the auto type. WHY ?????. Not necessary or wanted....

My driver's seat is er... somewhat broken and the MOT looms.
I have found a set of leather electric seats but wonder if they will need to be activated before they can be fitted - i.e. to move them on the rails to access the securing bolts?

I had visions of replacing the driver's seat on collection of them but this looks like it may be a problem....

While cleaning the seats in preparation for fitment I extracted the cassette then replaced it.
Now it won't eject, just makes whirring noises.

Tried to change the center sphere on my C5 today and failed......:-(
The problem was that we couldn't see how to remove the old sphere and get the new one in. Citroens own documentation just says rather glibly unscrew the sphere and remove it, but how? It wont come out or go up through the hole in the subframe the hole aint big enough.

Having just giving up on plug removal for now.. I had further thoughts on this, people below sugested plugs or not it should still start and run plugs good or not..

So, having a think about this.. there must be an electrical problem.. So I hooked up my Lexia on the car.

Then went into parameter measurements...

The problem with knocking it inwards & trying to retrieve through the injector hole is how do you know you get everything out ? A few bits could break off that you don't get & cause even more damage on start up. You would really need a bore scope down there to confirm.

I am looking at buying a C5 Tourer 2L HDI Exclusive - not brand new but only a couple of years old. Does anyone have any top tips for me to check through when I go to view?

Am going to be changing the spheres on our Activa tomorrow once I've got the ramp cleared in the workshop.

Is there anything I need to watch out for on the Activa that is different to normal Hydrctive sphere changes? IIRC there's something that needs to be depressurised on the Activa system?

Job done. Bleed screw was open.

The bracket that it was sitting on was flexing slightly and was getting a bit to close to the radiator for comfort whilst pulling on the sphere removal tool.

I slid a piece of plywood down in front of the rad and then gave the tool an almighty pull and the sphere walked off. Don't think there was much pressure in...

It appears the pressure sensor is integral to the ABS block. I can't get a pressure reading on the system; the pedal switch is new and works.

Lots of internet discussion of fixes, but the turnaround time to Australia is what gets me - So I'm wondering if the wiring can be spliced to use an external sensor brazed into one of the infeed lines....

Hi everyone,

I brought my car to the mechanic because the rear gear is hard to pass and fuel consumption is higher than it should. I've been told that the clutch's biting point if too high and must be replaced.

Question: is it true that this problem should increase fuel consumption as well as make gears (the rear one for ex) tougher?

Indeed. A lot of people seem to get the idea that an MOT pass means a car in good health - not at all, it just means that it passes the safety and functional requirements - brakes/suspension working, indicators and lights etc...

The gearbox/engine/clutch or anything else non safety critical could fail the following day after an MOT...

It looks complicated, but in reality its quite simple and well worth doing. Just be sure and get the captive spanner as stated in the thread and be careful not to round off the nuts and also mark one of the pair of pipes which feed the height corrector.. its all to easy to get them mixed up, as I found out.
The cradle is only held on with 2 bolts...

Stopped, unloading the VSX, and round the corner on the other side comes another one (well, a shinier S1 estate in Mauritius blue with alloys) on French plates. The lady in the passenger seat look surprised when I waved. Nothing uncommon about seeing another S1 Xantia in France of course (though mostly 'sedans'). What she probably hadn't noticed...

Do xantia drivers wave at each other other in the UK then? That's lovely, like being in a club. Random car drivers wave at me but I think they mistake my car for the local police man's car!

I usually do if it's another S1 and I notice in time, but I often get a look of surprise (Who are you?) in return - so I continue to do it out of sheer...

it usually comes up with the superseded and superseding part No.,

did you enter the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. on service citroen,

if so it will give you the exact No. for your car

Hi guys, I need help?
The repeater indicator on the passenger side wing has never worked, and I found out why ! there is no wire going to it. I have found a connector from a scrapper and was wondering if it is ok to connect it to the wire loom going into the back of the headlight unit. all solved! I traced the wire through to the area where the bonnet meets the window screen, there is a plastic bezle with vents in it which goes all the way across the car, if you release this then you can get access to the wire which was there but had been snipped off, I extended the wire and connected a new end to the bulb housing and bingo it...

I have a 2000 Citroen Dispatch 1.9 disel non turbo van that has a problem!! For no reason and at very spaced intervals it will just cut out! I have changed fuel filter,air filter and removed the injectors and had them professionally tested ( they are fine) i am out of idears! it does smoke (white) on start up from cold...

Take a close look at the wiring loom that runs over the top of the steering pump, you will need to take off the clips & pull back the plastic conduit, very common for several wires to rot & break in there.

Hi all the rear wheels on my xantia have what looks like excessive negative camber and the tyres are wearing badly on the inside I have been told there is no way of adjusting the rear camber, the rear spheres were replaced about 5000 miles ago , I would appreciate any ideas you might have, Many thanks

On Friday I ordered a set of spheres for my Activa from AEP in Rutherglen.

They've just been delivered this morning and upon inspecting them I've noticed that a couple of the spheres are date stamped 2 years ago.

Does the quality of a sphere deteriorate from just sitting on a shelf?

Usually they're pretty good and they only stock new spheres...

Another one for testing the spheres if you are unsure. I've had a 4 year old fitted Xantia sphere which needed replacing and also a 22 year old Pleidies regassed one which I didn't bother replacing on the GSA as it's still riding as well as a new one.

The Auxiliary belt on my HDI Xantia chirps for a split second on startup and when I shut it down, none of the pulleys seem noisy and the belt is IMO tight enough, is this the beginning of the bottom pulley failure ?

In that case I don't know, with the impact wrench it tends to come off without having to lock up the engine. Not really got the time to puruse the scrap yards. My local ECP has one in stock and are open until 6, might just have to pay-up and look happy.

Regarding your situation, you can probably ask for a refund as you can see the original listing still (and so can Ebay) usually a link near the top in the green box area. I had this happen with an air cooler recently.

Hi All

I have been having a problem with the dual aircon. When I set it to be the same temperature, it works great on the driver side, nice and cool when asked for, but on the passenger side it blows hot air!

Have looked about and had suggestion it was the passenger side motors for the air control flaps.

Finally got round to investigating this...

What sort of prices are folks paying for their motor insurance? I keep getting quotes around the £500 mark for my 2001 HDI 110 which I think is excessive, seeing as my super quick Saab 9-5 was only £300 odd.

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a Xsara Picasso on my return to the UK. I've narrowed it down to either a 2004-05 2.0l HDI or a similar aged 1.6 HDI 110BHP. If I get the 2.0l I'll have it remapped. I'm thinking of the Exclusive model but my head is saying get the 2.0l HDI.

Does anyone know what the RPM at 70MPH is likely to be for both Vehicles?...

Id go for the 2.0 over the 1.6 any day of the week, more for reliability & easier to work on.
The 2.0 hdi was never available as a 110bhp in the picasso (well not in the UK anyway). All the 2.0's were 90bhp's with Bosch injection systems. None of them had FAP/DPF either.

Curious, given that the pistons move freely and nothing seems to be stuck.

Get it put onto a Lexia ASAP for a diagnostic session. The ECU for the ES9J4S is quite sophisticated and includes misfire detection, so if its misfiring it will tell you and should identify which cylinder(s) as well.

If there is a dead miss on one or more cylinders due to a missing spark you run a very high risk of melting and destroying one or...

Hi all

My xantia S2 110hdi has a split intercooler pipe that i have repaired several times but with this heat its not lasting a couple of days.

I was wondering if an intercooler pipe from a Series 1 xantia would fit my Series 2 HDI?

It quiet interesting how much pressure is in these pipes when you rev the engine and i couldn't believe how much...

I got a reconditioned alternator today. 2 year warranty for £72 + VAT. Decided to just replace the whole thing as it seemed like the easiest, quickest and most reliable, long term solution.
