need help on a different car

Post by darbuck »

Hi lads have a groaning coming from the gearbox of a hyundai accent i know this is all things french but if you can keep a french car running your obviously a mechanical genius the noise is more of a humming than groaning and increases in volume when you back off the accelarator would it be diff or drive shaft.i tried the accent forum but i cant figure out how they post topics.I have changed a rear wheel bearing on the same car recently i know its definitely not wheel bearings

I take it you've checked the gearbox oil level?
To check the driveshaft, get under the car and grab the shaft to check for play then compare it against the other side. If there's any real movement, it could be that.
But from your description of the sound, assuming the wheel bearings are ok, it does sound to me more gearbox related...

Noises that change on run or overrun are usually diff related.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
