Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi all,

The weather has been very hot over here.
Now the aircon is behaving strangely. At idle or at low speed, the left side aircon is cold while the right hand side is either blowing weak cool air if not warm air.
While driving at constant speed, the aircon is cold at both sides.

Hi all, I am from Singapore, on the 8th April I just got my new Citroen C5 Confort 2009 2.0 petrol engine.

I read the manual saying that the memory function will remember my driver seat, aircon and also the door mirrors settings, I had set it into memory 1 and meddle the seat, aircon and door mirrors position to test it.

Hi folk, I'm looking for assurance of the easiest way to replace the rubber bush, front xantia wishbone? I imagine it's not necessary to separate all or even any ball joints, but am not sure.

I ve done the job. left height corrector and its dog bone untouched observed wishbone to be about 8mm below subframe at the lower ball joint upon reassembly with wheel off ground and no tension on p bush. that was lucky. Left anti-roll bar clamp nut on p bush bracket loose until wheel was back on ground, set to normal ride height, system...

My Radiator fan kicks in after I drive a few km's and another thing hissing me off is when i start the car in the morning it says car in Economy mode and does not drive over 3,000 rpm through the gears but can still sit at 110 kph or 70mph just no more.

I would do a correct BSI reset before getting a new alternator......eg follow this to the letter:

Unless the car has had a remap, the sensors will tell the car that it is faulty if the FAP has just been removed.....it is this that is causing the safety mode preventing you from going over 3k revs. Remap or Replace DPF system I am affraid

How you can remove the front seats from Xsara PH2 Estate.
The front bolts are easily removed but the two in the back are under the frame.

I am doing the timing belt, Aux belt, Air +Oil change and front brakes. My biggest concern is the timing belt and it's not my first belt change but it is on a Citroen. It is a 2005 C5 1.6hdi Estate. I was wondering would it be better if i raised up the suspension 1 level would this help.

yep I have the garrett turbo, really easy to adjust apart from that pesky c clip on the end of the actuator to release the arm (I have lost 3 now). Hi All I've bought 2 new rebound blocks aka bump stops which I understood just required pushing into the holes and twisting, having done this the hard black plastic bit just wobbles about and looks as if it will fall out as soon as I drive the car, the old ones I had to remove with a pipe removal tool, anyone had this problem? many thanks Bill...

It sounds like the accumulator sphere on the white Athena is tired as the pump cuts in and out every few seconds, I have a sphere tool and have swopped plenty of spheres over the years but as this has hydractive is there anything different to worry about?

a slightly overzealous fellow stripped a bolthole on the drivers hub (im assuming a tyre place where the P/O frequented :roll: ), and in my haste to replace the wheels before the rain set in the other day i managed to crossthread another 2, one on the passenger and a second on the drivers :shock:

now the bolts do tighten up but not snug so you...

You could try depressurising the system and restart the car after without pressurising the tank i only suggest this as my mk 1 estate decided to get stuck up at the back and wouldn,t budge until i depressurised it, worked for me you never know.i would suggest clearing all faults first.just did a quick search and found Trouble Code Description...

Sometimes after long after I parked the Xantia ( even overnight ) I can here a sound like a valve is open , then a hiss sound, then a sound like a valve is closed. The duration between the open and close is less than a second I would say half a second. Anyone knows the source of this ? Is this normal ?

Hi,
I have a 2002 C5 2.2 HDi, ~160kmiles, the car runs well when cold and starts and idles fine.
As the engine warms up however the car still runs fine but it's very lumpy at idle - cylinder missing type lumpy.
There is no smoke from the back either normally, or when it's idling badly.

Hello all,

Has been a long time since I've been round these parts, I hadn't forgotten - I've just been fiddling with a little Ginetta lately :twisted:

Anyway, my faithful Xantia has developed a squeak from the front suspension. It's a very rubbery kind of squeak and seems to pick up every lump and bump in the road, but goes away in the corners...

I've had a similar annoying squeak on my C5, which I put down to a dry joint.
I removed the front wheel and squirted every bush with GT85 lubricant. Problem solved.
If you wanted a heavier duty/more permanent fix, you could use red rubber grease or similar.

I'm off to IKEA. Just in case the boss decides to have a bit of a spending spree, does anyone have a rough idea how much weight I can carry in the boot of a saloon. I can fold the seats down and move stuff forward but I don't want to damage anything. All the weights at IKEA are shown in Kg. Cheers.

The Diesel Additive Minimum Level warning has just come on in my 2004 C8 2.2HDi.
Does anyone know how long/far the additive will last for from this point?
I am going abroad in 2 days and can't fill up the tank beforehand.
The car has done 133k miles and I last filled the additive tank (and reset the ecu) at about 78k miles... I'm thinking that...

Hi all

I've had a clunk coming from the nearside front of my Xantia for a long long time, I have slowly been replacing everything I can think of, and it still clonks!

The list of things replaced is as follows:

Both wishbone bushes on each side
Lower ball joints both sides
Anti roll bar drop links on both sides
Tie rods (just finished that job...

Arb bushes would show by disconnecting both drop links, if the arb is floppy the bushes are shot, if its hard to move they are fine.

My advice - get another AX, only a GT. Go to ebay, buy one that needs an MOT for £50 and I promise you, of all the fun Citroens to drive, this would be in the top five. It is also probably the cheapest and mine gets around 40mpg on the daily commute. However on the way home, if the weathers nice and the motorways are clogged, take the long route...

If you have xenon headlamps, you'll have the washers, otherwise, no (standard equipment of course, if someone fiddled aftermarket, that's another story) ... In an effort to reset the diesel additive counter on my 2.2hdi I hooked it up to the lexia, and got this,

Permanent fault low additive level signal

I then investigated further, scrolled to the diesel additive fault page and got the error message,

Permanent fault, inside the ECU
Temporary fault inside the ECU

Does this mean the diesel additve...

Hi all. Another problem :( . Previously the suspension stuck in low at the rear after leaving it overnight. Now it is stuck in high at the rear, very boy racer with the front down on the floor 8-) . It will only clear if I drive it down the road and it settles after 300Meters or so. It is riding a little high at the moment but cannot see that...

Thanks guys. The height corrector has been removed, the cradle cleaned and lubed and the corrector itself overhauled. Will probably have to check it in situ, but need it supported as no way am I getting under it in this state, hence the broom handle 8-[ . I will have to get some spares to refurb the one removed and refit it at a later date....

from what i can gather the olive is on the centrepipe and the flange is on the cat. so you can easily get a shop to make up a flange of the right size, but to fit it would ideally involve removing the cat so you can cut back the rot and weld it properly. wether the labour costs are worth it is debateable though. you could pick up a cheap cat for...

Hi Again Guys
I'm looking at buying a 2001 Xsara 1.4 petrol, car looks ok needs a clutch but it's very cheap. There's no history on the timing belt so I will have to change it if I buy however it seems I need a special plate to compress the valves to fit the belt properly. Is there any way around this? The tool costs as much as the car.

I've done more of these TU belts than I can even remember & I've never even seen that tool. Definitely no need to take the rocker cover off either.

Thank you for the info and sorry for the late reply. Yes belt was easy to change without the tool or seem gauge. I used to only buy VAG cars the amount of special tools you need is considerable.

Hi lads decided to do rear arm bearings and fell at the first hurdle cant get rear caliper bolts on either side to budge completely seized any suggestions on getting them moving tried loads of G7 WD40 equivilant still nada.

I have a 2010 C5 1.6HDi which blew clutch on Saturday night

There was a lot of oil on the floor when the AA man arrived which he initially said was clutch fluid from a probable knackered slave cylinder

He then had a feel and a smell (Bit like a wine tasting really!!) and revised his thoughts to gearbox oil :?

you're thinking of the one touch mode, servicebox only lists 2 different ones for each side depending on anti-pinch features. as far as i know the front drivers window has one touch across the whole range.

I bought the car today. Other than a few scratches, it's in lovely condition. 400km drive home, seems good, nothing concerning. But acceleration, for 160hp diesel car, doesn't seem very good. My 'old' VW Passat 140hp diesel (for which I hardly ever had a good word) was much quicker.

I took a drive in an old C5 today with a view for a travelling donkey :lol: Mmm.......but it's a diesel? I haven't had that noise in my ears for about 5yrs.

Erm?.....It was not that noisy? It drove quite nicely. It pulls well, even going from my 240 bhp to 110. It only has 117k. It hit a bump and I never felt a thing.

Ay up!

I'm thinking about upgrading my C5 2.0 HDi 110 to Bosch brakes with their bigger pads.

Are the Bosch calipers compatible with the existing master cylinder and ABS system? The calipers I have ordered come with the hub carrier brackets.

Got a paranoid feeling about this......

I noticed the other day that I had some water on the front passengers rubber mat in the Activa and suddenly remembered that Paul had pointed out to me at Ripon that the scuttle trim on the Activa was starting to come away from the windscreen.

What's the best thing to stick it back down with?

It's now back indoors so isn't getting wet but would...

It's done...

Well, half done... The Activa is now water tight again. The scuttle has been removed, cleaned and resealed with some black silicon. There's just a little cleaning to do on the bottom of the windscreen tomorrow morning after the sealant on the scuttle has had a chance to cure. Then I'm going to leave that carpet out drying for a week...

I all, My car is a 2000 Xantia 2.0 hdi estate, I hit the button to raise the drivers window and there was a loud CRACK that made me jump and the window glass fell down into the door, I'm not sure if this is something I can repair myself so am asking for some advise and this is the best place to ask, many thanks Bill :cry:

Same problem as a couple of months ago. Starts for a split second then dies. Tried the multiple locking/unlocking of doors. Tried the battery disconnect. (several times) Checked the fuses, because someone had a similar problem which turned out to be the Air-con fuse) As I have just had a new condenser fitted I thought it might be worth a try....
