C5 X7 Heater Blower Problems

Post by mrhardware »

Got in my C5 the other day and was greeted by a heater blower on full speed.
The fan is running all the time at full speed even when the the controls are set to off.
I have tried to loccate the resistor pack and have looked at threads on here but can't find it.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Which C5? If it is the '04 reg the resistor pack is in the driver footwell/console area, by the clutch pedal. It looks like this;

It can't be an '04 because it's an X7.

Having said that on my X7 (at least on mine!) the module is still in the passenger footwell. Marc has posted instructions somewhere about this, I'll try to find them.

EDIT

Here we go viewtopic.php?t=55875 - just ignore the pedals as those are shown as if it's LHD car. It actually make it very much easier to get at for RHD cars. After many ins and outs of the damned thing I can actually remove my module in well under 5 minutes from start to finish now!

Yes it's a lot easier for us right hand drive models for many heater component operations as you don't end up having to remove half the steering column!

Had it round to a friend of mine and he has run diagnostics on it.
The Fault code is F730 air blower repeat voltage fault.
He had never come across this fault so hoping someone on this wonderful forum could shed some light on it.

Can you pop your VIN up here so I can determine specs, but F730 is a fault with the Air blower control module. If the fault does not disappear after 1½ seconds then it is likely to be an internal fault with the unit - so I would suspect that.

For details refer to my post here:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=55875&hilit=blower+control#p499891

Note that the pictures show a left hand drive - but the location for right hand drive vehicles is identical - and a lot easier too!

Really Struggling here.
citroen says the part number is 6441S7 but the one i have removed has a different BEHR number G4532003 B.H.T.C 5H 008 941-04.
This seems to match a unit from a Merc Sprinter but also used in the DS3.
I got one of these of ebay which said it was a 6441S7 but it didnt fit.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SmartSense-H ... :rk:1:pf:0

But it woud not lock into place in the blower housing and it only had low speed and no high speed.
Showed it a mechanic friend and he said it was a cheap chinese copy and to send it back as faulty.

Any help appreciated

Right, first of all part 6441S7 is the correct part for the blower control module.

What we have no control over is where you buy the parts from. As I've said before, if a part is too cheap then it's probably crap. Why do you think the original unit is priced at £141.84?

If you are going to go for a non-dealer part then at least go for something branded like Hella:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heater-Blowe ... :rk:3:pf:0

This one is at least German made and has a 12 month warranty - anything with a name like 'Smart Sense' smacks of Chinese rubbish to me - sorry, but I've seen this happen again and again.

Thanks Marc
I had already contacted the supplier on the link worldcarparts_uk.
But they could not confirm if the part will fit or work as the BEHR number on the original one i removed is not correct that is why i am asking.
All i was after was conformation that it would fit.
As my local citroen garage already gave me the correct part number but even they dont know why the BEHR number on the original is different, it looks like this has been in the car since manufacture as it is dated 18-11-11 and car built on 23-1-12 and i have had it since august 2014 and ive not replaced it.

Ok, just for future reference your car was actually built on 08/12/2011, you warranty start date is 23/01/2012.

We don't really deal with the manufacturer code numbers on the parts as they are no indication of the actual part number and are likely to be the manufacturer's internal references and not necessarily anything to do with the actual part. They could be internal manufacturing dates, batch numbers, serial numbers or anything like that so really completely irrelevant to the part number.

Aftermarket suppliers are notoriously bad at getting part numbers correct, which is another reason why I never recommend going by registration or even car model number as there are so many similar parts, but subtle differences can make all the difference.
