Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Mysterious, to me anyway!

Heater fan working ok, aircon working ok as far as I can see.

STOP flashes after a while if aircon (or demist, which obv switches on aircon regardless) is on. Goes off it AC switch turned off and 'demist' deselected.

Comes back on (no0t instantaneously, but after a few seconds) if AC switched back on.

Any clues...

One of my fan motors had died, which gave exactly those symptoms. I replaced it with a spare, and the light kept flashing, which was somewhat disappointing - but a couple of days later it stopped and I can now see the fans spinning if the AC is on.

My wife is a driving a Citroen C4 1.6 SX automatic ( AL4 ) . Lately from time to time the check engine is lit. Using a Lexia I found the p1536 fault code. Any one knows what can be the source for that fault

P1536 relates to the braking system, as far as I am aware. And it depends on your engine type too - some models it's ESP, others it's parking/handbrake.

They will usually supply one with the kit. But as Vab says, getting a Citroen one will ensure that the car's safety systems are aware you are towing when hooked up and will activate differing modes for the ABS and the ESP to account for towing etc.

Hi,

What is the differences between the various rear suspension cylinders in particular the following:

5272 53
5272 22.

I can find both at Citroen.Service and know to which model each one fits, but just wander what are the differences ? In general why Citroen has to produce different suspension cylinders ( front and rear ) for different models...

Bought a Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI exclusive.
The boot lock plays up, one minute it works then it won't, also at times when o unlock the car I hear the boot click open, is this common ? I had a bit of an issue with the shifter detent - it locked me out at P position and wouldn't let me to shift to any other position.

That’s where you miss out on the fabulous qualities of the AL4. :twisted:
I had that thing out for months with the gearstick staying in its place.
I even very confidently drove from Sydney to the Gold Coast and back like that without any problems.

Hi I'm new here I'm Jamie from UK and I'm trying to get a citroen dispatch working it could have had veg oil bio or whatever in it I don't know what type was used so far I have

Dropped the fuel tank cleaned the pump the tank the fuel lines cleaned the fuel filter changed the fuel pressure sensor/commonrail and have 2 injectors I know are good...

Good result, and well done for sticking with it.
If old injectors are ever in doubt, you can have them checked, cleaned and recalibrated at any diesel injection specialist.
Cheaper if you remove them from the car yourself and hand them over.
Down here, costs me about €70 for a set of four Bosch.
Injector checking used to be recommended around 60k...

Here's an upside down pic of my battery tray. It's now an occasional car so had a few rides out, today it failed to start when hot, like usual when I go somewhere on a drive then stop at a shop. I jumped it and Got it going but it triggered the feeble toy alarm to come on all the way back. This seemed like a good opportunity...

Here we go again.. I find myself in new territory and in need of some Xantia experience please.
I've just replaced brake pads, discs and cables along with wishbones, droplinks and top engine mounts.
After the mount rubbers were replaced, the gear selection problem went away, but was replaced by quite a large amount of vibration at tickover through...

How do i remove these last two panels on each side. The grey and black ones?

All visible screws have been removed i think and everything is loose but just not coming apart. Feels like they're still attached somewhere. What's the missing link? I dont want to force them but is that what's needed?

Having been unable to move on the C5 to anywhere other than the scrap yard for £150 I decided to see if I could get the duff speedo fixed for not too much money. I found this place

who I left the car with. An hour and a half later they had removed the instrument cluster, repaired it with a lifetime guarantee, and refitted it all for £139!

Are there any tips for getting this oil seal back in without messing it up?
At 110mm diameter, I haven't got any sockets that big to press it in with. I can't afford to mess this up, engine is in situ and gearbox is sitting in the wheel arch, so there's a bit of room in there.

Right O, basically be careful and put a bit of grease on it.
I think I'll use a bit of wood and the old seal to help me along and keep a good eye on it as I'm progressing.
I took the old one out the other day, it was sitting in by about 1mm.

Hi

The front caliper started to leak , using Citroen part number 95667818 FRONT BRAKE PISTON SEALING KIT I want to rebuild it. If it was the rear caliper it was straight forward. The front caliper also has the handbrake leaver mechanism and it might be complicated. Any help is welcome .

The Handbrake mechanism does not complicate it Zohar, just wind the piston right out and then proceed with the overhaul...

Once the piston is out you can dismantle the handbrake mechanism if you wish but it's likely there will be no need to.

I have a dilemma here with no decent answer, looking for some opinions to help with the decision.

As of yesterday my cars clutch is defunct. It's been slipping for the 3000 miles I've done in the car and was the reason I bought the car so cheap. It's had a bad day though and is now not really in a safe state for the road. The car can't go over...

I will reuse the best flywheel bolts

I'd clean up & degrease the flywheel bolts, and refit them with loctite on the threads.

Glad you're not going to fit stainless bolts - always bothers me using stainless as it can suffer fatigue. Stick with what Citroen fitted :)

Hi All,

Well it didn't take long for another problem to appear!

As per title, my Citroen C5 2002 2.0 HDI, will cut out under hard acceleration.

To restart it, I have to disconnect the battery ( hold the terminals together ), then lock and unlock the doors with the key. It will then restart. Yay!

So I've done some searching and without Lexia...

Well, I changed the fuel filter today, I had changed it about six months ago, when I had my last engine / fuel related problem.

As I hoped it was nice and clean, with no sediment in the bottom of the filter housing.

I'm still using the car daily, and it hasn't cut out for a couple of weeks, but I'm not diving it hard.

Hi all,

Berlingo 2.0HDi Multispace. 04 plate. 122k.

When the aircon is off, I can hear a light metallic whirring from the engine bay. I'd say it was an alternator bearing type noise. However, when I turn the aircon on and it engages, the noise disappears..

Any ideas what it might be? It had a new aux belt last year, a new timing belt kit 3...

After changing the gearbox mount in my Synergie, I was still getting clutch judder problems.
This morning I went to use it and the clutch pedal felt heavy. After pumping it up and down a few times it got a lot lighter but I can't engage any gears.
I've had a neighbour sit in there and press the clutch pedal down while I look and there is movement,...

Xantia came to an abrupt halt this morning - a jolt rather than a dramatic bang. Now won't start. Engine spun suspiciously freely on starter and although I haven't been able to look at the belt yet I reckon it's broken. Question is, how likely will it be that I've got bent valves or worse? Is there any sure fire way of assessing likely damage...

LFY appears to be the most common one, aka XU7J4 , 1.8 16v lump.

LFX (seems) to be the 8v unit (not generally fitted to a UK 406) if that helps. Should 'translate' OK to Xantia models...

Just been on the phone to the local Citroën parts place, they say they can't get the clutch fork kit but the part number is 211529.
I've found some on ebay but they quote the part number as 211525, is this the same part? Reg of vehicle is N427 AFS.

I also want to change the crankshaft oil seal while I'm there, any ideas where I can get one? I'm...

The guys in Wales came through, quite possibly the last remaining clutch arm, for my car, in the country will be on its way to me tomorrow.
Now I'm getting to thinking what went wrong with it in the first place. The thrust bearing looks a bit mangled and is missing a tag. The old clutch has plenty of meat left on it but I just don't trust it.

Following a swimming pool event in the rear of my TD 1995 xantia i've stripped out the rear as a first off and found this plug under drivers seat. Any ideas? It's an SX model. Any chance it could be for electric seats??

I need to get a pair of drop links and track rod ends for the Xantia V6 shortly and it seems that things have changed in the 3-4 years since I did this on the last Xantia!

The ES9 top engine mount has been unavailable from Citroen for about 5 years, and they do fail.

I noticed that there is an after-market 406 mount available on ebay , which looks to have a very similar bush (but the bracket is different).

I have asked the vendor to measure the diameter of the large bush, but he seems not to understand the...

If a softer bush is required, all the top mount bushings i have seen have the gap, all the bottom rear bushings that have a greater leverage on them have no gap but are not bonded.

Just had a Lexia session with my new 7.57 software. 3 or 4 times as fast as the old 7.02 :-D .
MOT looms and thought I would try and get it through without any advisorys - have sometimes been lazy in the past and used the MOT as a fault finder - norty :wink:

Just whipped the rear carpets out of my xantia to clean them up. They're looking their 21yrs of age as large areas are no longer grey and appear more beige in colour. Anything i can do to colour them back up i wonder? Guessing not as they look fairly sun bleached after i've given what i thought was just dirt a good scrubbing!

As my searches in google didn't return any match, could someone point me to the right direction to buy one or, perhaps, someone send it to me from a local retailer? I wouldn't say the fuel pump was the worst case scenario, but has been a reccuring topic. As for the Lexia, many members have ordered from Easydiadnostics in the UK, but they do ship worldwide. If you do get one from them, I would suggest you ask for Diagbox V7 and updates to V7.58, as the newer V8 are really only needed for post 2015 cars and...

I have found plenty of info on changing the belt on a V6, but they all refer to the old manual adjuster on the Xantia/XM/406 etc. My C5 has the new style of tensioner. I want to be fully prepped before I start, what is the tensioning procedure and how do I set it. Also I picked up a brand new water pump from a Xantia for 99p, but apparently needs...

On a break in Shetland, the island if Yell. We went for a drive exploring side roads I hadn't been down since I was a child. At the end of one I found 2 N reg Xm saloons sitting in a field in not too bad nick and 10 minutes later lo and behold another M reg saloon. Yeh, we all know that mild steel uncoated screws supplied last really well when fencing as do the mild steel uncoated staples fired through the feather board with such force the thing cuts in 80% of the thickness ! It was a pain to do but back it went

Hi, i have just bought an 06 Xsara Picasso 1.6hdi 92. 1 owner, 85,000 miles, f.s.h. Oil changed every 12 months, mileage between oil changes 6,000 to 9,500. Turbo etc seems fine at the moment, slight play (radial) at compressor end. However, when cold starting it smokes grey/white, runs a little lumpy for a minute or two, but everything fine there...

From memory the glow plug relay is attatched to the ecu bracket. On the 1.6 It looks a bit different to traditional glow plug relays. No bolted connections, just a plug with a slide locking tab.

My vehicle seems to be lacking low down power below 2000 revs and I have to keep changing down to make progress whereas before there was a good amount of torque below 2k. Once I go past 2k power seems fine and turbo kicks in with plenty of power. Mpg seems about the same as before and no smoke but the depollution faulty message comes on...

After changing the CV joint on my synergie for the second time in 6 months, I couldn't get the gearbox filler plug off, it looks like previous butchery has occurred.
I had to drill it and use an extractor in the end. This has left me with a ruined plug and after scouring the Internet for a replacement, I've found nothing.
It measures around 16mm...

Just when id almost managed three months of trouble free motoring with my beloved c5 2.0 hdi.........

Pulled battery off to run a maintenance charge on it, plumbed it back in now the car is stuck in eco mode with immobilizer fault and wont start which i believe I need it to do to be able to lower the drivers window to follow the BSI reset......

Hello all,

It's been a very long time.

Have an odd problem with 2007 C8 2.0HDi. Basically, the horn goes off randomly, usually at the most inappropriate moment (!) and generally when turning the wheel. However, the horn doesn't seem to sound at any particular point in the rotation of the wheel.

I can't really offer any other clues other than it...

The wiring to the comms2000 seems all good, I have taken the column shrouds off and the wiring there seems all ok. The Comms2000 only got replaced because the car failed the MOT due to the fact that the rear foglight wouldn't turn off (!), there were no other related...

hi Mark, done another global test, but because faults are permanent, it wont clear them ! BSI faults are the same, but when i try to clear them i get, communication fault with alarm ECU, and communication fault between the built-in systems interface (BSI) and the ECUs on the bodywork van ! also, on injection, i am getting permanent fault, inlet...

Hi, I have a 2010 C5 estate with a broken window regulator wire! I hope someone can help, I am having difficulty fitting new wires bought in a repair kit, to the regulator mechanism. I have managed to wrap the wires on the spool and with very little finesse forced the spool into position and refitted the motor - but the wires are like bow strings...

2004 Berlingo. Wipers work fine, correct full sweep from side to side etc but they 'park' half way through the up stroke! Right across the screen. :roll:
Any ideas? I believe that on old Fords you could strip the motor and move the park tab, is it the same on these?

Hi all

Next problem... windshield washers not spraying... No fluid coming out in the front, after I used the rear washer... It's really stange.

If I loosen the pump.. Not disconneting it.. with washerfluid all over my back.. And reattach it to the container... The windshield washer in front work fine again.... switch to the rear.. Washes fine.....

I know this has been discussed many times. Since the Total LHM is difficult to find in Israel I use LHM from Italian manufacturer by the name Duglas . Below is a link to the product spec

A thought keeps occurring to me about the self steering built into the rear axle mounts of the Xantia. They have a few degrees of steering built into the mounts which I think is utilised through body roll. In the case of the Activa which barely rolls are these mounts present and if so why?
