This is probably been answered on here before, but I can not find this question within the 'files'.
My heater blower has never worked since I have owned the car (2 Months) Can anyone point me in the right direction into what could be the possible cause
and maybe remedy for repair. Its a 2003 model estate.
Many thanks in advance,
Ian M

Re: C5 heater motor not working!!
Ian, can you describe whether there is any response from the blower motor or not - whether on full setting or not? Do all the other temperature settings work ok?
I suspect it is the blower motor control unit. If you post up your VIN number, I'll dig out a diagram for you. Although this is a for a Mark III C5, you will have an idea of the component I am talking about from this picture:

Re: C5 heater motor not working!!
It's not an uncommon fault. It's been posted before and it may not be the control unit itself. The first time the blower stopped working on my M1 C5 it was the connector block at fault. The electrical connection itself had become high resistance somehow and then over heated. This had then damaged the PCB of the control unit. I was able to change the connector on the PCB and clean up the matching piece in the plug.
The second time it was the unit and I had to replace it.

Yes, a good point Paul - also, if it is anywhere like the same location as the Mark III, the wires could easily have been disturbed / broken, given the effort needed to replace the Pollen Filter. You can just about see it via the filter housing here, zoomed out a little from the previous picture.

Re: C5 heater motor not working!!
On the Mk1 RHD with full auto climate control the control unit is on the driver's side. Bit of a bugger to get to with the steering wheel and pedals getting in the way. The filter is on the passenger's side.
If it's a Mk1 with basic aircon the control unit is on the passenger's side about the same place as the photo of the Mk3/X7. I don't know where the filter is but I suspect that's on the passenger side as well.

Re: C5 heater motor not working!!
I took some photos back in 2009 the first time my blower motor stopped. I'll do my best to narrate what I did.
This bit of trim I think is under the steering wheel column. I can't remember why I removed it - maybe it allows more light in while working.
This trim panel is secured by a special plastic trim screw and generally tucks under other bits at the edges.
Then you can see the control unit It's held in place by two (maybe only one - can't remember) screws and you'll need a Torx screwdriver. Carefully does it as you withdraw the screw(s), I dropped one down the back of the trim underneath and never saw it again.
EDIT - I thought about this later and I think that the screws are hex head and you'll need a 6mm socket for them.
This shows the control unit and plug going in to it. You have to hold this little locking tab open to pull the plug out.
If you want to look inside the unit at the PCB this is one of the locking tabs that have to be held open to flip the top off.
Final two photos show inside the connector socket on the control unit and the PCB itself. Neither really show the heat damage so I'm wondering whether I photographed a replacement unit.

Just replaced this module on my 2003 C5, no issues. In my case the screws require M6 socket. Only the steering colomn UJ cover needs to be removed as in photos above. Module was £16 from eBay.
