Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Going by the utter letter of the law, as the vehicle is registered, then it must either have Tax, MOT and valid insurance, or not be on the road. The ONLY way you can legally move this car is to put it on a trailer with all 4 wheels OFF the road.
However. That is taking it to the letter of the law. A more realistic approach is to look at what is...

Right, I have a problem of moving a car which is not MoT'd, not taxed. It has working rear lights, good tyres, but is in a state. It needs to be moved about 3 miles via back/country roads from a workshop yard to my driveway.
I dont have access to a dolly or a trailer. I do however have a straight bar, and someone to sit in and steer. Is this...

I came out of my house yesterday morning and there was an absolute dog of a BX estate in the parking bays. It was up at the back, down at the front, filthy flat red paint, the rear arm bearings are so shot the wheels are at least 15 degrees in at the top and its covered in oily fingerprints.
Assuming it belonged to one of the builders working on a...

Personal Registration plate RRG 2 Y

by fastandfurryous » 16 Jun 2005, 23:10

First post

Value to me, Nil. Value to someone with the initials RRG, possibly a fair bit. There are companies about who will give you a rough idea as to the value of a registration plate. Look in auto-trader as a starting point.
I once had NBK 30Y valued at about £150, so a single-numeral plate must be worth a bit more than that, probably.

Last post

Anyone any ideas of the value of this plate?
I ask as its on a car i have, which has been off the road for the past 7-8 years. To MoT it to get the plate off, it needs extensive welding (not much of a problem), replacement front bumper (i have also) rear lights sorting (i have spares), a drivers window (some jippo kicked it in, so have to get...

C5

The C5 has ABS as well as EBD and emergency brake assist these are complex systems that cost a lot to develop and test. PSA could develop one set of systems for the C5 and another for the 407 but with economies of scale it makes more sense to engineer one car (as much as possible) and sell it as two cars.
The hydraulic suspension and ride quality...

I've just been reading the Xantia brake pedal spring thread and noticed that kowalski mentions that the C5 has gone to conventional brakes rather than off the hydraulic circuit, what are they like? Why have they done it ? the brakes were one of the things that attracted me to hydraulic cits. I remember spending absolutely ages bleeding the...

To all the people that could not resist a peek I wanted to find out if I could send a message to this forum as since I changed address and went to broadband at the same time there have been problems.
If indeed you would like to send any kind of reply feel welcome as this would complete the test.
Cheers.
Geoff.

240v and positive and negative ??

by fastandfurryous » 14 Jun 2005, 05:10

First post

It doesn't really have a positive and a negative. What it really has is neutral (called negative) and Sine wave (called positive). Neutral is tied to earth, and so doesn't have a sine wave on it. Positive actually swings between +340V and -340V 50 times a second, where the RMS (root-mean-square) of this waveform is 240v, hence 240VAC quoted for UK...

Last post

Here's an interesting one for you!
If 240v ac mains is a perfect sine wave, how come it has a positive and negative?, since both parts of the waveform exist for the same amount of time on each wire !

Why do you own half a 405 estate? :D

Last post

Right. I've got myself a bit of an issue with this BX.
As I now have 9 vehicles, most of which have one problem or another, I must rationalise. Since I am now the rather proud owner of a CX TD, I fear the BX may have to move on to pastures new. Shame really, as I love it, but I can't have this many cars!
There are some pictures of it on here...

VW Polo info needed

Sounds like a similar caliper to that fitted to my old Fiat Punto cabrio. click for the Delphi identification chart.

Hi
Trying to change the brakepads on my mate's 92 VW polo yesterday. Seems the whole caliper has to come off, and then the two parts taken apart in order to fit new pads. We get the calipers off and the remnants of the old pads out, before discovering that he had the wrong pads anyway so we called a halt.
Has anyone done this or know of a decent...
