French Car Forum

Thanks for this Myglaren :D Most valuable.

The reason was that previous to the new database server becoming operational, the forum was difficult at best to administer due to the very slow response from the old database server. As a result new members were taking a long time to be activated and it was not easy to find genuine new members from the...

Very deep flooding a few years back saw me pop the electric switch on my Cx Safari onto
high whilst I drove towards it and I carried on through serenely without a pause! Actually
it was very deep and at one point must have been just above the sill - the bow wave ran
midway up the car's doors on the sides... blink.gif

There'd just been a lot of...

Oh it is real....

@ Kowalski - I thought there was something like that, I'm guessing that is why he cancelled the ticket fairly easily.

Loads of Xantia's in and around Motherwell, there is two in our stree, mine and the one at the bottom of the road, three if you coun't my Sensation parked up in the drive, and most annoyinly another Mallard green 1.8LX up up on the High Street, annoying as that's the colour of my Sensation and when I got the car it was the only one that colour for...

I like

It still amuses me when a hydro Cit does it's little tricks

I still get an enormous amout of joy out of my Activa after a year in my ownershipm and only irregular use nowadays as the 2.1TD does the bulk of the work..

Straight-line performance may be nothing special by todays standards but around the twisty stuff the...

A brief update:

Work continues behind the scenes. Currently we are looking at hosting the forum database on another server and investigating the technical issues to do so without loss of data or an interruption in service. The latter worries me as a few backups I have taken in ordder to dummy run and prove the exercise have proved to be corrupt,...

yep :(

I did look at an A class but parking restrictions forbade it..

at 23 ' it's a tiddler.. still , very wide, 2.5m! lots of work needed I think

Hi Ralph.. Nah, I wish! :o Too expensive to run these days. I still have some nice photos of them though. I even found a couple of the white Triumph Stag I had. :)

The Honda's bad enough. Only does 18 mpg ish on short local runs, but manages 32 mpg ish when running around doing long runs on holiday.

I would love a BMW 525 TD SE auto 1996...

One tip, wipe away any rings left on the screen by the sucker. If low-lives see these rings they will know you have a satnav and break in to your car on the off-chance youve stashed it out of sight somewhere in the car.

Thats exactly why I run mine on a pda, I bought the one that wedges into the dashboard in front of the speedo perfectly to...

Hi Jeremy, and thanks for the info. :D

Fortunately my ZX is an Aura and already had 4 speakers installed. :)

I spoke too soon about it being finished though, dohh.. Now the hatch-lid is beginning to creep down so I need two new support arms for it.. *~#*
.

I tried V power or whatever the super expensive Shell diesel is in the ZX 1.9D - and to be honest noticed no difference at all. (Thing runs on plain Shell almost exclusively)

Wonder if it would do anything for my BX TD (205,000 miles)?

The problem is not being ignored.

See for a current update

Had my card skimmed a year or so back, pretty certain that was at a Total station in Lincolnshire. Lloyds were pretty good, and it was a credit card so it wasn't a case of my account being emptied leaving me short, it just took up some of my credit limit until it was sorted. Main problem I had is that they'd been phoning me throughout the day, and...

thanks Clogzz :) will check..

I have heard of a Vim re-bore before...my mate told me about it as he has seen his dad do it on an old wagon many many years ago...

Remember this dates back a good few years...

When the engine was past its best & you couldn't get it to start from cold without having to light a fire in the air filter housing...the trick was to give the engine a...

Hi Jim.. I wish I wish.. heh heh.. I would love to own a nice Xantia td auto, but (a) I dont know anyone who would be able to fix any problems as and when they arose. (b) The 3 Xantias my various friends have owned over the years, were all problem cars.. :(

If -- there was a good Xantia mechanic in my area, and if -- I could find a really nice...

I have never been happy with the idea of a computer programme being put into cars by the manufacturers.. How do we know what's in the programme? Built in faults for example?

I cleaned the throttle assembly out on my Honda, 2 hours work ish, but getting the car to start afterwards was a nightmare due to the ECU programme!! In the end I had...

if one day they ever find a way of exterminating these pests

So when did the real Jeremy Clarkson get abducted by aliens and
substituted by the current one!! Actually, apart from THE hair, it could
have been William Woolard conducting the test - a very banal 'voice of
the BBC' roadtest even though the compliments about the Zx wre nice!!

Andrew

An exceedingly good Christmas everyone

And may all our cars be well behaved in 2008!

Here's a bit of Local entertainment over on Fraser Island.

This is what those who don't know how to drive 4WDs handle a simple situation and make it a difficult one:

If you want to roll end for end, then you do mental things like this:

(works well until you find a washout about a metre deep or drop into quicksand.)

This is how the ones...

Here is a snopes link for variations on that story

Roos can be a problem, especially out in the bush. My wife hit one in the XM Sept last year and broke the right fog/indicator assembly, but that was the only damage as she was going slowly as she knew there were 'roos around. She was driving through Kosciuszko Nat Park (Snowy Mountains) at the...

You can always pop over if you fancy mez but its no exec or v6 im afraid :D

It was indeed - genuine Citroen gasket kit. Whether chubby-chappy managed to fit all the cups, washers, gaskets, springs, bolts and nuts in the right order I cannot tell, but it sounds and feels good to me and I kept the receipt. 8)

I wasn't aware until today that I can no longer hear the turbo begin to spool up nor the metallic brushing noise I...

Yep, it was the rust that really killed Rover. My last British car was a K plate Metro. Great car, looked great, great suspension, great handling, sweetest engine on the planet but shocking paintwork that had the arches rusting out at 4 years old. Apart from the rust, the cars were impossible to fault but rust is rust. A pal of mine had an N plate...

p.s. Anders, I read about a BX TD N2O test - it almost halved the 0-60 time on a moderate jet size

If you'd like me to get you a kit, let me know

EDIT: In fact, if anyone else wants a nitrous kit, let me know.

Yes, if done properly. A lot of so called tuners will do an awful job. Its very easy to lose flow if doing a bad job on these heads.

Jim thanks..

No dont worry re belt.. its not my car.. long story but someone was selling a 406 with the broken belt, and somehow, him and i discussed me fitting an engine for him instead.. If I do your welcome to have head, was hopeing to do job on 7th oct uplling all the stops !

John

So is this specific to the Xantia only, or do other Citroens have this useful feature ?

Specific to the MK 1 I think, I have seen it many times on my TD but never noticed it on my Facelift Activa.

Most solid bearings are made of soft metals, that way they wear out first and can be replaced..

As a lad, I replaced dozens of white metal big end shell bearings but never had to have the crankshafts reground. and they used phosphor bronze sleeves in the bores of oxygen compressors when I worked on them.. Sooo......

No.. The soft metal will...

I think Jim got caught in a loop with the green car, he looked it over well, began walking away but soon veered back round towards it.... several times. There was obviously some serious gravity forces around that car that affected him  I think it was the price that eventually broke the hypnotism.

:D :D :D I do that with all 205GTis and...

yep and how many other marks use the PSA diesel because there own diesels are just small truck lump, (noisey and smelly) tractor comes to mind
regards malcolm

The coupe looks very much like an Audi wannabe though that's not
necessarily a derogatory comment but a sigh about Citroen's me-too
approach with their design.

If they could capture some of that amazing red 4 gullwing door show car
we'd all be out there robbing banks...;)

Actually, I'm more encouraged by the l'auto journal shots of...

Hi deian

Thanks for the reply.

The first time I looked at the PSA V6, was when a friend showed me his car.

The 406 coupe has good styling, & it was nice to see a V6 under the bonnet. 8)

Maybe it was a gentlemens agreement as they are involved with the tdci engine from psa?

I did one on mine and it came back clean, which was a surprise to me.

have a good one jim

and its not a strange route you will miss all those wonderful jams and thus avoid the temptation to have your wallet lightened by the motorway stealers

cheers for your honest advice ive taxed your brain a plenty-recharge your batteries i may have bought another xantia by the time you come back

What's your answer to the question in it ?

Answered... go see.

The whole article on car survey is a bit insane, it says when you submit reviews, that they will be checked, so how on earth did something like that get through?

It would appear that these muppets are driving their cars, with the same sort of lack of control that they exhibit, when pushing their trolley around the supermarket.
