V6 Happiness!!!

Post by deian »

Last night I was working a shift with my old workmate, he's well into his fast cars and he dabble's in rallying... he liked vauxhall and idolises the ford escort mk1 etc.

Last night I let him have a spin in the my V6, he said... let me see what this is like, he was quite curious... this is from a guy who drives a 160bhp vectra and rallyes a 168bhp astra 2.0 16v, he came back smiling from far away and said the car is absolutely ballistic and pulls like a train (he wasn't even in sports mode), he couldn't stop laughing... he was impressed by what he calls 's**t' who's engines (psa ones) break down compared to the hardy vauxhalls ones, and was shocked at how much I payed for it... lots of car for the money, he said imagine it in manual?... of course it would be nice as per my previous post... anyway... i went for a spin around the work carpark then and drove like a loony in sports mode... and i must say... it handles amazing, it's so agile, my workmate said i had the car on three wheels around one corner (in 1st gear that is)... so i guess it has a good chassis (the xantia overall)

anyway... what i'm trying to ask is... how many of you use sports mode on private property and let rip??? i was exhilarated after playing with it... needless to say i made it home on the fuel in the tank, but not back to work the morning after supposed to be 6am... so to be on the safe side i waited till 7:30 when the local garage opened to fill up... naughty me

the best thing... hearing the car pull away when my mate drove it... what a nice sound it makes!!! Could I ever sell it? Hmmm!!

Thanks for reading

I just got my mum a saab 9-5 2.3t 185 bhp auto from ebay.Went down to Sussex on sat to get it.Great car,hpi clear,as described.Took it for a drive, found a lovely bit of long straight road, hit the sport button & floored it.It bloody flew :D  .
One thing concerned me though. The guy had a new engine put in it as the old engine packed up the day he got it in jan, poor bloke.Cost him £1000.But as i was gunning it,i could here the turbo wastegate when the gears were changing. The 2.3t is low pressure, but the engine thats now in it is the 2.3T areo,220 bhp!!!No wonder it flew.
Her insurance only went up 30 quid with the areo engine.£200 overall. Its got a private plate worth £2000 on it too.The car was only £2000 anyway. So bit of a bargain.
I really could get used to a powerfull auto :D .But not the fuel economy. She did 30 mpg on the way back to london,i did 55.4 mpg.
Think i`ll stick with the 406 :)

Well I just got back from a 1600 mile round trip to France. 600 miles of that was done in 1 day and I have to say the V6 is the perfect mile muncher. Very comfy, effortless cruising and what's more, not a single thing went wrong  Averaged around 25mpg mostly with cruise control set at 85mph with occasional overtaking blasts up to 110mph and a small amount of A road driving. Didn't use gearbox sport mode at all I'm afraid, but I reckon the fuel consumption would drop to about 10mpg if you used it all the time. I did however use suspension sport mode on the occasional bits of twisty French A roads that we used.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Well it's been a while since I posted this post. It's a nice car, as nice as the 2.1td, not better, not worse, they are different cars, the V6 just goes, just point and drive. The 2.1td is also as smooth, and has similar torque.

Which would I buy again, probably the 2.1td, but I am looking for a 2.0i turbo XM.

Hi deian

Thanks for the reply.

The first time I looked at the PSA V6, was when a friend showed me his car.

The 406 coupe has good styling, & it was nice to see a V6 under the bonnet. 8)
