This cannot be true surely, an activa on a 51 plate, capable of 147mph, not even my V6 could do that.

I guess a "51" plate is just possible. I've never seen one but I've seen a few "Y" platers around. Old stock perhaps? However I thought Activa production ended well before the ordinary Xantias and I've not known one later than a "W" plate.

An indicated 147mph is possible given the ever increasing optimism of the speedo as the speed goes up. After all, an indicated 70mph comes at just below 3000 rpm in 5th and the redline is nearly 6000 rpm but the rev limiter abruptly hits in then.

It is always true that the indicated speed on a speedo is entirely correct and 100% accurate when reading the top speed achieved by any particular car so he must be right If I recall Correctly, the genuine top speed of a 2.0CT Activa is around 120mph?

I was cruising along the A1 and I glanced at my speedometer, I was doing 147 mph!!!

It ran out of "clock" with the needle resting on the end stop beyond 150 MPH (not kph)

You might be looking at 147mph in a V6 Activa down a hill with the wind behind you, but in a 2.0 turbo??

22 year olds often do buy new cars nowadays. They routinely throw upwards of £10k into these horrendous chavved-up Corsas you see so buying a new car isn't so far fetched. Gawd knows where they get the money.

(a) His parents
(b) A loan company
(c) He has TWOCed it
(d) He is still living at home for free, and so can splash out on strong alcohol, and let his imagination run riot with that top speed etc.
