Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

As you may be aware, the consolidation of the old PSA to the Stellantis Group systems has resulted in both a merge of data tools and a requirement to migrate PSA accounts to Stellantis Systems.

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

HDI issues?

by rossd » 05 Aug 2005, 13:27

No boost control solenoid on these, just an old fashioned wastegate pressure fed from the turbo housing.

Last post

Hi,
I have a Vreg 2.0 HDI 306. When i put my foot down i get a clicking noise, does not increase with revs. If i run the turbo with a little less 'pedal' it stops. It's more noticable when its cold and also when the air temps cold. For these reasons i wondered if it may be the boost regulator solenoid (if its got one!?!). What do you think? if so...

Not a 307 but hopefully relevant. I've got a 406 7str (where the seats fold into the boot floor) and chuck my two teenagers in the back on a semi-regular basis. the blank plug that lives near the tdc sensor is there. Would there be enough pressure from there to run a turbo?

Last post

I have a 1993 405 diesel which i would like to convert to turbo. However the stub for the main oil feed pipe to the turbo isn't on my engine, any ideas how to overcome this? I have the turbo from a 306 and all the air pipes from a 405td. Any help is greatly appreciated

Cambelt change?

by JohnD » 18 Jul 2005, 23:20

First post

I've been running XUD's in Citroens for 15 years and I change cambelts every 40K miles. Some DIY mechanics leave them longer, but when a belt breaks on these engines, the damage is extensive. I've heard of guys getting a belt changed for around £120. It's worth getting the pulleys and water pump checked at the same time.

Last post

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me the interval at which the cambelt should be changed on a '96 TD 406 and a rough idea of how much I can expect to pay?
Also not sure if it'll be enough detail for a diagnosis but I have a knock coming from the back end of the car. I notice it mainly when I turn the car off but also when going over speed humps etc. It...

106 Buying tips required

by 106XS1998 » 18 Jul 2005, 22:00

First post

ive had a few problems, look for a rear wheel slant on the back, if it looks like /-----\ then the trailing arm bearings are prob gone, its expensive to replace, and its more cost effective to replace the whole back axle suspension unit. 106's have a urge to have an erratic idle, so let the engine warm up and listen to the engine, if the revs are...

405 locking/alarm weirdness

by PowerLee » 18 Jul 2005, 12:29

Hi
Welcome to the world of rubbish PSA alarms, Yours has lasted very well, Its normal for them to fail much younger then this.
I take it being a 1995 car it has a drivers airbag, Well under the driver seat is a black plastic cover held on with 2 x 10mm nuts, Under this cover lives the alarm control box.
Turn the alarm siren off under the bonnet,...

Hi y'all,
My 1995 405 TD estate has a weirdness that I can't quite belive:
Using the plip to lock the car and set the alarm, sometimes the RH indicators stay on. If I unlock and lock again, the RH indicators will flash and go off as normal.
Recently, I have noticed when driving away that the RH indicators are on while driving. I have to stop,...

Hi All
As above, the Mrs drove my 406 with air con switched on. After arriving home, and getting back in to go out again, the air con does not switch on, nor does the internal fan.
I've checked the fuse in the internal fusebox as well as the fuses in the engine compartment, and all are still intact. Tonight, I've totally dismantled the heater...

I know this is a well covered problem but going through the old posts I cant find any real clues . The car is a 405 up P reg with air con , the fan has stopped working it cut out briefly earlier in the week but its permanent now. The fuse is fine but there is no power at the motor or the slider switch, if i take a 12v feed straight to the...

Radiator + Indicator problems

by flux » 16 Jul 2005, 03:20

Hi all,
Got two problems on my 95 405 1.6 GLX (aircon)
When i turn off the ignition and the radiator fan is running, the fan stops immediately, surely this should continue for a while until the engine cools down, any ideas?
Indicators, while appearing to work ok, after cancelling i can still hear a series of clicking, the lights are not flashing...

406 Fuel Leak.

If it's behind the fuel filter, it could be one of the fuel leak-off pipes.

Hi All,
Own a 96 1.9 TD. GLX, 160,000 on the clock. Its always been a great runner and starts 1st pop every morning. The last few days has seen a loss of power in the 1st 2 or 3 miles then all is sweet when it warms up also when left for any amount of time its hard to start but always does. Today I smelt diesel in the cabin and had a good look...

I was under the impression that all HDI's had multiplex.

Does anyone know of a quick and easy way to check if a 406 has multiplexed wiring? I'm in the market for a diesel 406 and wish to avoid the multiplexed cars, whilst getting the most recent vehicle I can find.
One possibility which springs to mind is to check for a delay on headlight flash, but someone may have a better idea. Any suggestions...

306 DT service

by JohnD » 13 Jul 2005, 23:32

First post

Not at all difficult. If you have an under-tray fitted, that's the worst part. My Xantia has a little trapdoor under the sump plug, but the Xsara has an under-tray that has to be removed completely. Our 306 doesn't have a tray, so it's straight forward - a 10 minute job. You probably need a square bar to remove the plug. I always replace that type...

Any tips on changing the oil and filter and fuel filter on a 97 Pug 306 D Turbo?
Are there any fiddley bits of trim under the sump?
Do you need the square type sump plug ftment to remove the sump plug?
Also how can I reset the service mileage on the dash?

I am planning to change the complete rear suspension on my 106xnd at the weekend - is this as simple as it seems i.e. 4 bolts and general brake connections/cables or has anybody had problems with this task before?

106 Power Steering quirk

by madasafish » 13 Jul 2005, 00:28

First post

Sound like:
1.Alternator brushes worn: hence charge warning light. Will increase charge with revs.
2. Battery oldish and voltage too low to run power steering..
Try switching on all lights and leaving engin to idle. Switch off after 1 hour and leave it. Try to start when cold several hours later. If battery flat = alternator.
(leave until you...

I've been trying to get to the bottom of a problem with a 106 Quicksilver. V-reg 1.4i
Originally the car had developed the idle/stalling problem, characteristic of the idle control valve playing up. I replaced this stepper motor and things seemed to settle down for the next 1500 miles.
Next the powersteering suddenly went really heavy and the...

405 P/S Steering Rack Gaiter

by rossd » 15 Jul 2005, 13:06

First post

GSF of course.... Just a word of advice, don't go asking about other spares companies on GSF's website, it isn't good manners
What you really need to do is trundle on down to your local GSF and ask to see the gaiters so you can have a touchy feely of them to see which one is the softest/most flexible.

Last post

Hi,
I was wondering if any members had had to change the N/S steering rack gaiter on a 405 with power steering. The Haynes book says (!) that the job should be taken to a dealer as the rack has to come off. But I've had a reply on another forum that said the job can be done with the rack in situ if you use a flexible aftermarket gaiter, hot water...
