Hi all,
Can anyone tell me the interval at which the cambelt should be changed on a '96 TD 406 and a rough idea of how much I can expect to pay?
Also not sure if it'll be enough detail for a diagnosis but I have a knock coming from the back end of the car. I notice it mainly when I turn the car off but also when going over speed humps etc. It initially sounded alot like the exhaust but I've had a look at the joins and tried moving it but it all seems pretty fixed down. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Giles

I've been running XUD's in Citroens for 15 years and I change cambelts every 40K miles. Some DIY mechanics leave them longer, but when a belt breaks on these engines, the damage is extensive. I've heard of guys getting a belt changed for around £120. It's worth getting the pulleys and water pump checked at the same time.

Hi
The knock you can hear is most likely the bottom engine mount rubber on its way out.
The rubber is less then £10.
Have a look under the car on the drivers side, That alloy housing with the driveshaft running through it, Theres a rubber mount in there & thats what wears out.
Have a good look at it & if it is worn come back & ask again & someone tell you how its done.
