Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

As you may be aware, the consolidation of the old PSA to the Stellantis Group systems has resulted in both a merge of data tools and a requirement to migrate PSA accounts to Stellantis Systems.

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Please help/advise with Pug 406 Dipstick problems

by xsaras4ever » 02 Jun 2014, 12:48

First post

Hello all.

We are going on a long trip in 2 days time and decided to give the 406 Hdi 110 an oil change.

Everything going according to plan and we are at the point to fill up with new oil.

We take out the dipstick and its broken and we see one part still in the metal tube.

We fish it out but there is another part in there.

We cant see it so...

Last post

Thanks to all - crisis averted.

The plastic piece is nicely lodged in the bend of the pipe and the dipstick now passes it without being wiped.

Apparently this is a very common problem and most Citroens/Peugeots have several pieces of plastic knocking about in the sump.

Thanks Again

Power increase chip fuel economy advice.

by jonnya » 29 May 2014, 15:03

First post

Hi There, I have a 406s Estate 90bhp 2003. I am considering installing a chip to improve fuel economy and power. Does anyone have experience with chips and could tell me their experience with it and maybe recommend one? I am looking more for economy than power but a power boost would be a bonus.

Thanks, Jon.

Last post

I would think that fitting an intercooler to yours and reprogramming would be the best way forward, the 110hp has a lower CO2 output than the 90 so should be better on fuel.

Fuel delivery/pump problem ECU?

by jonnya » 27 May 2014, 17:32

First post

Hi all, I have a Peugeot 406s 2003 1.9 90bhp. The car was running great but descelerating on a roundabout it died. I friend hooked it up to a diagnostic tool which came back with fault code Error p1177 fuel flow delivery problem. Can anyone suggest an alternative solution as he said the ecu is not replaceable. Has anyone had experience of the same...

Last post

Thanks for your responses...I had to take it to a garage...the fault codes were misleading...the cause of the issue were severed wires rubbing against metal directly behind the battery. My garage did a great job but took a while finding the needle in the haystack. Big expense saved i believe. Thanks again, Jon.

Hi Joe

Not a magnet as such but it just picks up the residual magnetism that normally all ferrous material has, which is why the gap needs to be very small. I seem to remember that the flywheel has a hole drilled in at the appropriate place. Its a long time since I had one apart.

Can you see it smoking while driving, if so under what circumstances, is the performance normal? Hi, my 306 has steering wheel wobble at low speed , should I be looking at the track rod ends ? both tyres are good , cheers Terry.

In at least 95% of cases it will be caused by the tyres. I would suggest to test you swap them over with the rears to try, what often happens is ply separation which causes bulges in the tread.

There are companies that offer their services on Ebay, £25 for crash data reset.

If you need it ? the Peugeot battery dis/re procedure :- Open bonnet, open drivers window, remove key from ignition, ensure all doors & boot are closed & nothing is left switched on,wait five minutes to let the BSi go to sleep. Disconnect battery and do what ever?................reconnect battery, wait five minutes, lean in through open window & switch...

Crank pulley 3 different types

by Welshy_Pete » 26 Mar 2014, 01:56

First post

My crank pulley makes a noise and I can see red orange dust. The weather can effect the noise level sometimes to. So its time to change the crank pulley. But there 3 different types to choose from and which one the best?

Also what the difference between them all?

My crank pulley currently has the 3 groves on it.

306 hdi 1999

Thanks

Last post

All HDi crank pulleys are duel mass types,(or should be?)just make sure you get a O/E one and not a cheepo type.Even the gen` Peugeot ones give trouble. There is a huge spring inside, like grandfather clock spring.I`ve seen them come apart, the spring sort of unravels,on one occasion I`ve had the spring go through the timing cover and cut the cam...

Do I have to change Sump to remove AC Pump? XUD

by Pug_XUD_KeenAmateur » 30 Mar 2014, 11:57

I've removed part of my air-con system and I'd like to remove the pump also, which will allow me to remove a particular idler that I've changed 3 times, each time the replacement has also been noisy.

My lump has the air con alloy sump with the integral bracketry on the side for the AC pump fixings, its a slightly different shape to the steel...

306 - New alternator, now suspect battery?

by jamesgmg » 26 Mar 2014, 12:47

First post

Had the battery light come on on my 306 1.9D and measured the alternator output direct from the alternator terminals and also measuring off battery terminals, getting 11.3v at idle.

Figured bad alternator so just replaced it with a new one. However the new one is giving the same results.

I've checked the big fuses in the box under the bonnet on...

Last post

Almost solved this! Disconnected the rear wiper motor which shares this fuse and all is working normally :)

If you post up the VIN we can look in service box and see what system is fitted, and if it lists the regulator separately.

406 Hdi fuel gauge

by Peter.N. » 24 Mar 2014, 16:45

First post

My gauge is periodically going from reading half full to empty with the light flashing, is it likely to be a fault in the sender or an electronic problem?

Thanks

Peter

Last post

Thanks. Seems more like an electrical fault as it changes suddenly, been OK for the last couple of days, says half full, only time will tell if that's accurate.

Wind back discs

by civvie » 02 Feb 2014, 13:56

First post

Have to replace front disc pads on a 207 soon and have been looking at those caliper rewind tools that push in the piston as well as turning it at the same time. There are some that are a left hand thread and some a right hand thread, what's the difference? do I need a left one for nearside, and a right hand one for offside. I know it may seem...

Peugeot 106. 1999 1.1 Zest

by Gregg1100 » 16 Mar 2014, 18:04

First post

My daughter in laws little 106 had a water hose break way from under inlet manifold. A little metal tube which is probably heat or cold sealed into bottom of manifold has rusted away.
Is this a regular occurrence and what steps can I take to fit a new one in- will have to be a home grown mod I expect ??
Are there inlet manifold gaskets available,...

Last post

Yes a hose nipple or barb or attachment, depends who you are buying off. Probably taken off some air tool when I was fitting a PCL quick release fitting. You are probably using something similar. If you intend to drill through the bolt look for a 4.6 or similar low tensile as it will be much softer than 8.8. seal it with ptfe tape.

Transponder Chip, 306

by addo » 14 Mar 2014, 10:05

I'm looking for some clarity on this one.

Need to get some keys sorted urgently for a 306, '98 XSi. Odd hybrid; IR locking and flat type key but a chip in the key that is definitely needed.

Are these chips normally supplied with the fob if I order from Peugeot (the non-remote fob is described as a box clip ) or do I need to source separately?...

406 Hdi warning lights

by Peter.N. » 10 Mar 2014, 16:27

First post

When I first bought this car about 4 years ago the air bag light came on intermittently but has since been permanent, the 'low brake fluid' light joined it sometime later now I also have the 'seatbelt ' light on as well. I have disconnected and cleaned all the plugs with thin wires under the driving seat, I assume the thick ones are for the...

Last post

The airbag/seat belt lights are probably the wiring under the front seats? but to be sure it needs plugging in to a diagnostic tool.
The low b/fluid is a regular 406 quirk , replace the small handbrake on switch under the hand brake lever. Its a horrible fiddly job and the centre consul has to be lifted up. Make sure you get the latest genuine...

307 HDi 136 instrument cluster fault

by tmead » 17 Jul 2013, 22:33

First post

I've got an intermittent instrument cluster fault. Occasionally when the key is turned on first its like a christmas tree - pretty much every light is on, including low fuel level and STOP. The guages read on the bottom. The lights stay on like this even with the engine running (although it shows an antipolution fault message pretty quickly). The...
