Please help/advise with Pug 406 Dipstick problems

Post by xsaras4ever »

Hello all.

We are going on a long trip in 2 days time and decided to give the 406 Hdi 110 an oil change.

Everything going according to plan and we are at the point to fill up with new oil.

We take out the dipstick and its broken and we see one part still in the metal tube.

We fish it out but there is another part in there.

We cant see it so we gently push in the dipstick - it doesn't go in far atall.

Thinking we can easily remove the metal tube we undo the 10mm bolt at the top and remove the starter motor for better access.

The tube is very firmly fixed to the block - has anyone done this before ?

We hate the thought of pushing the plastic down into the sump - but is it ok to do so ?

Please help/advise.

Regards to all.

If there is no fixing nut to the base of your dipstick tube, it's probably a tight fit with an age-hardened O-ring.

Thanks to all - crisis averted.

The plastic piece is nicely lodged in the bend of the pipe and the dipstick now passes it without being wiped.

Apparently this is a very common problem and most Citroens/Peugeots have several pieces of plastic knocking about in the sump.

Thanks Again
