Crank pulley 3 different types

Post by Welshy_Pete »

My crank pulley makes a noise and I can see red orange dust. The weather can effect the noise level sometimes to. So its time to change the crank pulley. But there 3 different types to choose from and which one the best?

Also what the difference between them all?

My crank pulley currently has the 3 groves on it.

306 hdi 1999

Thanks

These metal damper type pulleys do give a lot of trouble on HDi engines, and as you can see the Peugeot ones are very expensive. There are a lot of cheep ones about but they do not last long. The best make to go for is Lemforder,if you can find one? GSF car parts are showing O/E pulleys for £82.20,not sure what make they are though.

So the Lemforder the solid type I take it?

Everybody saying the solid type the best of the last 3 versions. The other 2 have rubber or spring and not as good.

So does that change the crank pulley I'm looking for with being dual mass pulley?

All HDi crank pulleys are duel mass types,(or should be?)just make sure you get a O/E one and not a cheepo type.Even the gen` Peugeot ones give trouble. There is a huge spring inside, like grandfather clock spring.I`ve seen them come apart, the spring sort of unravels,on one occasion I`ve had the spring go through the timing cover and cut the cam belt !!!
After saying all this I have in the past fitted a normal XU diesel pulley(the one with the rubber middle)to a HDi.As long as the key way and the diameter for the 6K belt is the same,it will work. We could have the same discussion about the pros and cons of these duel mass pulleys as we have had with duel mass flywheels and solid flywheels??
