Peugeot 205 front brakes

Post by Raul »

Hi

The front brakes of the peugeot 205 ( non gti ) are known to be not very good. I have a scrapped citroen zx 1.9 td for spare parts, so can I use citroen`s front calipers on my peugeot 205 ( diesel )?

if they fit there should be no problem as the ZX runs DOT 3 / 4, conventional brake fluid

ZX`s can have vented or solid discs.......If the ZX has solid discs I think the brakes are more or less the same as a 205?? If the ZX has vented discs they wont fit the 205,but?? What you could try is swop the whole hub carrier over, complete with calipers, vented disc, the lot. The only thing that could prevent this working is the drive shaft? will a 205 fit correctly in a ZX wheel hub?? As with all these "experiments" its a case of suck it and see.

The zx has vented discs.I am not sure but they should be compatible with peugeot 205 gti model. Those discs fit to the hub of my peugeot 205 and the calipers should fit also. Are those calipers the same that are used on the peugeot 205 gti models?

if you are switching from solid to vented i believe you need to also use the caliper carrier,

Yes I am going to switch from solid to vented. I also switch over the calipers+carriers. One reason for that is because one of the original caliper has a broken bleeding nipple. I also hope that braking power will improve but looking at the calipers and brakind pads of both car they look about the same size. So I doubt there is going to be much improvement.

You may be right, especially if everything your fitting is old and second hand. Try it out first to see if it all fits and the "conversion" is successful.? Then consider new vent discs and Mintex pads.

if the brakes are not up to much i would check the flexi's are not collapsing internally, also check for air in the system
