Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've always thought the clutch in the 1.9td (reverse action or push clutch) was a bit too heavy. I was just wonderign if there was any known way to improve it significantly? I re-greased the spline while the box was off and the cable's new but it's still very close to the same. I don't think there's anything wrong with it as all the ones I've used...

Hi all I'm new to the forum. On a Peugeot 206 with automatic transmission the two lights on the dashboard start flashing with the engine running. Thsese are the light with a snow flake on it and the other has an S on it. hi all well if you have read my other thread you will no my gearbox is nackered. well i have now come accross a td engine, gearbox, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, downpipe and the turbo

If the donor engine has a keypad operated pump and the original doesn't, the easiest thing to do is swap the pumps, if its the other way round it doesn't matter as all you have to do is connect an ignition switched supply to the fuel solonoid.

Hi guys

I had new pads fitted to my 2.1 td before I set off on a 2000ml trip.I was told that the front disca were worn and could do with replacing,didnt have any time for them to be done..They are now giving off a slight rumbling under braking..Could you tell me,is it an easy job to do,diy ??

Hi, new to the forum so do please bear with me. I have an 04 136BHP 407 and for the past year (yes year) i have had the following problem. Every 4/600 miles the engine sounds flat and deep. It hesitates badly and feels very lumpy. When this happens i have 2 x options. Drive very gently and it passes or drive as normal and the MAGICAL engine...

To be honest the engine is now guaranteed for 24 months and at the time of initial quote it seemed the best option. My concern at the time was if i purchased a different car or engine i may still have the same problems later on down the line. That said in hinedsight yes probably the right...

Hi is it possible for the independant controls for the temperature to be linked as I am fed up having to set 2 controls, 2 zone heating , only handy if your giving an eskimo a lift P.S it's a 05 307 sw 1.6 hdi . as always thanks in advance .

I like the idea of the dual zone climate, as i often want to be a different temperature to my passenger!

However, im not sure if or when the controls changed on the 307. I know on the S1 C5s you could not set them by using one side, you had to adjust both. But with the C5II you can set it so everything adjusts together.

Hi all ive purchased a peugeot partner 98 1.9d non turbo. the gearbox is nackered no 1st / 2nd / reverse / neutral 3rd gear is neutral. checked all linkages nothing wrong at all from what i can see.

anyway i have a turbo diesel gearbox just wanted to no how much higher geared they are as i no the non turbo diesel are very slow anyway just don't...

I don't have a list of what is different. Obviously the turbo engine is a lot different internally (oil cooling jets for the pistons, different crank etc)

But the N/A units I'm not that sure, its tiny internal improvements generally. You may find breather pipes are moved slightly etc but that's about all you will see with the...

one of my pulleys for the fan belt has broken up, at first we thought it was the crank shaft pulley however when we looked it was fine. i found a piece of outter metal this is how the noise started. the fan belt has stayed on and the car is running good but we have no idea where this strip of metal is from? any ideas guys?

I am doing the head gasket and it is getting a pressure teast and skim.

There are 3 different head gaskets listed, each thicker than the other. Do i use 1 of these or put the standard on?

I agree with Spider, as it all depends on how much is removed at the machine shop when skimming.Your old head gasket will have notches that will tell you the thickness of it and then work it out?? Stick the thickest one on.

Hi all im hoping someone can assist, my friend has picked up a 306 estate very early HDI 90bhp i think as there is no intercooler????

Yes it was fixed, in the end he put a pressure guage on the pump and all it could muster was 78bar while cranking, he picked up a second hand spare and fitted it then put the pressure guage back on and it blew the guage out :lol: .

Now runs sweet as a nut, i think the issue was the little non return valves on each cylinder in the pump were...

Hi iv just brought a 1997 406 2.1td estate and am having problems with the clutch. when i picked it up i noticed the clutch was biting right on the floor. Iv topped the fluid up as the pot was empty and it seemed ok after that but after a day its gone soft again .Not lost any fluid though. Is there anyway to bleed it and how can i remove the slave...

may be its only leaking very slightly so you would not have noticed a level drop yet,

With that symptom, I'd say the first port of call is the MAF sensor. They do go bad - can be cleaned with carb or brake cleaner, otherwise you'll need a new one (and best to buy genuine too)

At some stage in the near future I have to replace the rear brake pads.

Knowing the pistons have to be wound back, seen a windback tool known as a cube with a 3/8 sq drive which has 5 combinations of pegs on different faces.

Anyone know if this is anygood for winding the pistons back. Emailed Draper Tools and they don't know either if its...

i have seen those cube type wind back tools but never used one,

bear in mund a rear calliper is smaller that a front one, so there for there will be less gap/space between the calliper jaw/s and the piston face

so this tool may be to chuncky to fit,

there are quite a few threaded typee wind back tools on ebay at reasonable price's too,...

I have posted a few other issues with the same car here but I am running out of options and have already run out of spare money.

2002 307 Hdi 2.0 110 RHS 126k miles

Had issues with the turbo not kicking in and narrowed that down to snapped maf sensor and turbo control electrovalve. This solved the turbo problem for a short time. Then it came...

Disconnect the MAF sensor wiring. Generally, if you see an improvement, it points to a faulty MAF. There is no reason to assume that a relatively new component is automatically in good order.
Having fixed the intercooler leak, surely you can plug the car in again and see whatever faults are now present ? Your earlier readout pointed to the MAF,...

Friend and I have just 19 8 valve convertible to do Scally Rally Europe in.

440000 mile new head gasket and timing belt drives really well.

Any advice on what we should look for common faults etc to look for before we use it would be most grateful.

Hi,

Had the curry smell so suspected heater matrix. Not losing much coolant but enough to niggle. I put in a Holts radweld and drove about a mile when the coolant blew out of the expansion bottle. Now it seems to be pressurising very quickly. Would suspect head gasket if problem hadn,t developed so quickly. Could putting in radweld cause this if...

Hi,

I have a 2003 Peugeot 406 HDI s Estate. Through the winter around 2 degrees temp or less the car is almost impossible to start. It will eventually start but probably on compression only...the battery nearly dies very time. When trying to start the glow plug light only comes on for a quarter of a second (if at all) and goes out v. quickly. Am...

XUDs of all flavours can lose valve clearance sufficient to prevent easy starting - some do, some don't - no idea why!

However, DW10 HDi has hydraulic tappets*, so that is not the problem here. You've got to start by getting a decent cranking speed!

* which confer another advantage - have a cambelt failure on an XUD and the valves likely smash...

Hi guys,

I've just bought a very tidy little 1999 Peugeot 106 Zest 2. It's really very clean, the bodywork is good and the interior is excellent. It has 74000 miles on it. The one problem is rust in the boot. I bought the car knowing that it has this rust issue. My old Saxo, which of course is basically the same car, never had this problem...

Cheers Chris. It does seem to be a weak spot on them. New metal is the only answer. Several layers of Waxoyl should prevent a reoccurance.

Evening all - just got a 406GLXTD Estate '98 - a couple of things

Should the 406 have a sound deadening felt fitted under the bonnet ?

I have a 60MM dial gauge on the left hand side of the main dash display with a needle which goes from left to right on start up and then back to the left (indicated off ) and then doesn't move again - does anyone...

Hi there,the heater blower on my 307 just stopped working. Number 1 speed never worked since getting the car,but 2,3,and 4 did, but not any more.I have tried all the fuses to no avail. Any ideas how I can test the switch or motor in place !! Thanks in advance.

I`ve seen a lot where the blower resistor gets overheated and melts the multi-plug.Follow the wire loom from the control switch and you will find the resistor tucked inside the heater case.

My L/H/F lower ball joint is worn at the base of the hub to track control arm.

Any problems in replacing these or special tools needed.

Yes it screws up into the Hub via a Hex. headed ball joint.

In the end because of time was against me and could not get a socket off the shelf and paying excess carriage costs etc. I removed the hub from the strut and track control. Placed it in a vice and drived the joint undone with a blunt chiesel and hitter against the edge of a flat the old...

I plan to look at a Phase3 1.6 that's got a non-working heater blower. All I know diagnostic wise is the blower will run with direct power applied and that fuses have been checked.

Ideally, I'd like to be armed with the relevant wiring diagram(s) but any hints, tips and pointers would welcome.

For completeness sake this job is now sorted and the owner has again, working heater and blower.

The cause was lack of relay and a disconnected control module behind the centre fascia. Thanks to Toby for his electrical skills.

Hi all
I have a problem with my Peugeot 106 that I bought last week i dont know the keypad code. neither does the previous owner or the one before that.
is there away to bypass this ive tried the default code + others.
I also have another peugeot 106 with the cambelt gone what do i need to swap to get the other car to start as i know the code...

you have to unplug the imobaliser unit on the rear of the pump completly,

then trace the switched live in the plug (loom side) that feeds the imobaliser and link it directly to the fuel shut off solanoid,

this has to be switched on by the ignition switching on,

on the XANT it is a 4 pin (without looking) square black plug conector,

Hi guys, weird brake thing going on????
When i start the car and pull off the brakes dont work, when i say they dont work what they do is. On the first breaking i perform after pulling off there are no brakes after that they are fine??

Hi,

This question is really regarding the 1.9d dw8 engine fitted to both the berlingo and Peugeot partner. The car in question is a peugeot partner.

My mothers car, just completed re-shimming the inlet valve's because it wouldn't start. Now it starts ok. However, its so slow. Have I timed it wrong? or are they just really crap?

No smoke runs...

It won't be that (I think that's at the slow end to stop it stalling)

Get someone (or a length of wood etc) and jam the pedal down, engine off obviously ;) :D

Then go look at the cable on the pump, and check its fully pulled the lever, you do not want it straining though, allow a 1mm or so of play really.

Hi,

Having tried to lock the boot with a key (406 Diesel Estate) it would not lock because key would not turn. Now the boot does not lock when using the remote lock on the key fob. Could I have disturbed a sensor when inserting the key? Need help on this one, your help would be much appreciated.

Unusual :?

Take the trim off the tailgate and unplug the solenoid to the lock. While you are here look for anything obviously amiss / bent / broken.

Then try to lock the car again (either key in door or remote)

I doubt you have done much to cause it from what you say, my initial guess is as the tailgate on these estates covers in muck easily...

ok guys well thanks to jim speedo working but got another problem when my mate took the car for mot he said there is a viberation through the wole car at a certain rpm now then i have done the cambelt all went ok but as i havent driven the car on the road before i dont know if it was thee or not could this be the top engine mount not in correct...

The multifunction display does not work on my Peugeot 406 1.9 TD 1996.

It just shows a flashing hyphen next the the deg C.

I'm a bit nervous about buying a new one if it turns out not to be the issue. What is the most likely issue in everyones experiences?

It is the sensor as Steve has said, if it cannot read from it, it will do a --- type thing. It could be the wiring or the sensor, although the wiring for these sensors is usually quite reliable to be honest. It is normal for the rest of the display to work (yours is probably radio or clock display at a guess)

Morning,

Peugeot 406 1.9 TD 1996 saloon.

I have another post on here so I am being a bit greedy but this problem is I think a side effect of my other problem.

The accelerator cable had seriously frayed near to the little plastic plunger. While I think it is not going to completely snap any minute the fraying stops the accelerator cable...

Just bought a '98 406GLX TD Estate with 11 months mot and 124k on the clock for £350 - looks pretty good but it has a rattly single pulley on the cambelt arrangement so it will need a bit of work
Couple of questions - apart from the usual cam belt (probably water pump) fluids and so on what else is there to check ? - any special ?
How difficult...

Im doing a clutch change on a 206 1.6 and i cant get the driveshaft out, I have removed the 2 bolts and tried tapping the shaft but it appears siezed.

Can i take the box off without removing this?
I undid the bearing housing but it wont pull out due to it catching the back of the block

I removed my gearbox with the o/s driveshaft still in situ and i then removed the shaft by hitting it out using a block of wood to protect the splined end before refitting the gearbox. (206, 1.4 HDI)

I've all but finished the 306TD into partner conversion and now I'm in need of a bit of help for the last leg.
Everything is working apart from the temp gauge, speedo, rev counter and drivers side electric window.
Fuel gauge works.
I've got a spare round plug on the 306 loom which I think may have something to do with it as there's...

the speedo and odometer are not working. They have on occasion suddenly started working but 99% of the time they do not.

What should I look for and is it expensive?

From the last few days of continous rain.

The L/H front footwell has a pool of water under the Rubber mat.

Its not coolant water as the header tank is still at the same level as always.

As far as I can see, the left hand heater vent under the windscreen is not blocked with debris looking through the mesh. Looking at the R/H side the drains down...

Hi folks my puggy 307 is quite sluggish at low speeds but fine with higher speeds etc and pulls away fine,sometimes it should be in 4th gear but has to be in 3rd instead of fourth as splutters a litte due to low speed whats up?cheers

Does anybody have any shims close to the following sizes.

2.77 mm, 2.73 and 2.70.

the last two are a guess at the moment because I cant even get a 0.04mm feeler guage in the gap.

This will be the second attempt at shimming. I originally bought 4 shims only to find that the gaps must have been negative, i.e. the valve were being held open...

hi all. my diesel 307 has developed a bad misfire under 2000 revs. no engine light on or faults coming up on the display. it was intermitant at first but its doing it all the time now. no smoke and it starts, idles and drives fine over 2000 revs. when it was intermitant took it to peugeot and they suggested getting the injectors reconditioned but...
