'02 206 stereo upgrade...

Post by ekjdm14 »

Hello again all, just got back from a rainy scrapyard session and amongst other things we grabbed a better stereo for our 206. When tested, the unit (VDO 22RC280/65S, basically the same as what came out but with a CD instead of tape deck) works but displays "REG ON" and does that annoying bleep, but it never asked for a code so am I right in thinking it would need to be programmed into the car to work properly? Or is there any other way we can get rid of REG, he's not welcome in our head unit lol :rofl2:

Probably like the Citroen C5 (and others) where the stereo is coded to the vehicle's VIN.
In which case you would need a Planet or Diagbox owner to let the car know it was there.

Take a look at this thread, there may me a member there who can help - the Lexia install, and Diagbox, usually include the Peugeot diagnostik software too.

When I had to replace the radio in my C5 I certainly got the beeping (not sure about the message), but when I hooked up my Lexia and did a bit of work (I think I was in the Equipment menu) it sorted all that out. The only thing I could not do was to update the Central Database.

Its correct they need coding to work. Coding as in the sense that otherwise they beep constantly via the speakers.

Quite easy to do via Diagbox/Planet to configure it (replacement parts menu I think)

It just needs to be 'told' that you have changed the audio unit then it will shut up and behave. :)

This was done to replace having to enter a code after battery disconnection etc, it was felt this was more suitable theft deterrent (at the time) as you'd need a dealer tool to stop it making noises rather than a "backstreet decode" as was previously possible.

Brilliant thanks for that, we'll most likely get that sorted at the same time as getting our headlamp operation changed from single to twin bulbs. Just out of interest, could we also have other stuff activated in the BSI at the same time (for example front fogs/leccy windows/cruise/aircon) before the items are fitted? Or would doing this just throw up a glut of fault codes as the stuff isn't seen to be "working"?

I ask because the car is a basic 5dr Style 1.4HDi, but for us it's looking like a keeper and we plan to upgrade it to have everything, as and when the bits crop up at our local breakers for the right money. Thanks again folks, much appreciated :)

I'd not recommend enabling them unless they were fitted. I do not think it would do much harm but it may start to log unusual faults...

You may want to chekc you have the appropriate wiring loom fitted actually too, from memory there are a few types.

that's pretty much what I thought, thanks. The only member we could find on the map with diagbox in reasonable distance says they wanted to be taken off the list as not doing it any more anyhow, so looks like we'll be saving a bit sooner than expected for our own setup lol :) was always on the cards with us deciding to keep the 206 anyway but not quite this soon.

I will certainly check the loom before buying/fitting any bits but I'm pretty confident in at least the fogs & windows as there's wiring/plugs hanging there already. Gotta love multiplexed cars...

Thanks for your help, much appreciated & will post back as & when we get our diagbox/PP or whatever we go for since we'd likely be able to make it available for members use locally too.
