Diagbox 7.02 key programming grief

Post by onthecut »

As the recent 206 came with only one key, decided to get a spare. Have run straight into a problem though. The Diagbox will get right to the point of entering the engine immobiliser code, but the message always comes back BSI locked, wait 15 minutes before retrying.

I am presuming that the immobiliser code it's asking for is the four character code on the little plastic card that came with the car ? It's reading the VIN number correctly, but that's it. Went and stumped up a staggering £20 at the local dealer to confirm the four character code is right, which it is. The key that came with the car is working fine in every respect.

One of the many boxes that open up on the Diagbox has a line referring to the BSI readiness to be programmed and this is coming up 'No' -- anyone know if this is relevant ?

I don't know the history of the car, but if, say, the BSI has been replaced and the correct VIN entered, but a different code (is that possible ?), how do you go about establishing it ?

Any thoughts or solutions very welcome.

Thanks, Mike.

This is possible if someone has had a "donor" BSi (and key and all the other bits typically ECU) from a scrap car, but usually the VIN is wrong when that happens unless its been cleared.

Its one possibility at least. There are some 'tools' that can read the code out I don't know how good they are though.

The 'cheap fix' here is to simply go to a good auto locksmith with your working key and have it cloned. Although both keys will now have the same code, it does not matter as far as the car is concerned both will work correctly.

Having made no progress, decided to cheat in the end and went to a local car key specialist. For a very modest £25, they confirmed the BSI code was the original and got my second key fully working.

The main conclusion I draw from this is that clearly something is lacking in my Ebay Diagbox, either in the software, the hardware or both. I have long seen the Ebay ads for the 'full chip' (or whatever they call it) versions of the physical interface and lately, the distinction creeping in for updated versions of Diagbox sitable for Chinese clones -- presumably the implication being they are different to some other version.

Has anyone got the 'ful chip' version and if so, what is the difference ?

Mike.
