Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Over the last 2 weeks my TD has become more difficult to start from cold. It now needs heating twice first thing to start it. Once it is warm it starts absolutely fine.

Just checking over the Xantia 2.1td for a trip to Devon on Monday and I'm having a bit of a problem with the rear not rising properly.
When I put the car into the lowest position and then try to raise it, it will not raise at all at the rear but the front comes up within about 10-15 seconds to maximum height.
How I eventually got the rear to rise...

Silicone spray is used for waterproofing - ONLY. On already clean & dry surfaces. Silicone spray film has no mechanical strenghts so cant be used on moving parts really. However its perfect on electric components - and especially rubber parts as its also known as a rubber surface re-conditioner.

Can anyone help. Citroen Xantia 1.9TD (1994). I had new spheres fitted about six months ago. Since then, I seem to have developed an LHM fluid leak from around the Pressure Regulator at the front of the engine. Can't see any obvious leak. Is the accumulator sphere sound? to test start engine and let it run for a couple of minutes after its reached normal height. Turn off the engine and sit in the boot. The car should sink then rise again after 30 seconds or so.

The importance of a sound accumulator is that it damps out the pulses from the pump (amongst other functions). Undamped...

I've had mine up to 135 but then I got scared, but judging by the way it was still pulling I reckon it would see 150 in the right conditions But I mostly drive round in old codger mode and rarely have the urge to use the performance to the max, it's just nice to know it's there if you want to use it.

The shuffling is completely normal.....its because of the cars lateral sensors reading and processing lots of information many times a second....it over corrects itself. People complain of getting seasick in them :lol:

It took some while after the release of the ZX for Citroen to announce an estate version. I then purchased one (Aura TD) and it was a brilliant all round car. Great for stuffing full of holiday luggage and then off to France!

Xsara was the same if I recall (the estate came some time after the hatch didn't it?).

Who can tell me how to remove the centre brake light on a Mk2 Xantia? Can it be popped out from the outside or do I have to delve into internal rear panel?

According to the BOL the procedure is as follows

1. Open the tailgate
2. On Hatchback models, remove the securing screws and clips, and withdraw the trim panel.
3. Unscrew and remove the two securing screws, then withdraw the light unit and disconnect the wiring plug.
Refitting
4. Refitting is a reversal of removal.

Hey guys! Any ideas on the following fault which is driving me nuts?

Car is a 1.0 N reg AX, with Bosch Monopoint fuel injection. 65,000 on the clock. The following problem has appeared within the last 30 miles.

When cold, the car starts and runs fine. As it warms up to normal temp, the car hesitates, loses power and bunny hops at any throttle...

Me thinks it is the Lambda sonde. Try follow the cable run. It should end at the sonde somewhere on the exhaust manifold on a spark-plug looking device.

Shop around for your new lambda sonde - it really pays.
Our here it is possible to find a Lambda sond at some £30.
Note : The AX will run perfect on a standard 4-wire lambda...

Hi All,
Will the pollen filter if blocked, stop the heater fan from working. Or is it that old chestnut, the ign switch. Car is Xantia2 1999 HDi 90.
Also, someome mentioned rams at rear suspension. Where ??. Is that the bit of suspension that the spheres screw onto ?

They have not sorted the switch itself.
The switch on the Mk II is the same as on the Mk I.
They have added a relay modification whereby the switch operates a relay to feed the blower, instead of having the high blower current pass through the switch.

Can anybody tell me the procedure for Hydraflushing a Xantia? Thanks

We had the hydracleanse discussion on the old forum. The problem is that we dont really know what it contains.
But surely its very similar to LHM in properties - it needs to be.

Note : A flushing does not mean literally that you flush a surface clean. In many situations a flushing is simply a shift from one type fluid to another type of fluid...

just started happening on my xantia hdi 2000W. 122K engine ok, power ok with no smakes etc.

Any suggestions?

my zx has its pressure and fueling turned up as below.

it sounds loud and goes a long way towards drowing out the diesel clatter when pulling away fast....

i like the noise - as soon as the noise starts the car launches :twisted: :D

change the oil every couple of months and dont turn them off imediatly after heavy use and it will be fine, they...

Has anyone had any experience of owning a C15 champ van ?
I have heard good reports of the 1.9D engine's longevity but is there anything a prospective owner should know ?
They are very popular on the Continent and seem to have taken over where the 2CV and Arcadiane left off.

the only thing to overcome when replacing the rear arm bearings is compressing the spring,once you have done this and disconected the cup from the arm the rest is no diferant to BXs

Hi Gang,

Has anyone got any wiring diagrams, pin outs, or schematic maps for the Lucas EPIC based ECU and it's ancillaries? Also for body computer (central locking etc, alarm). Just printed out schematics for the hydractive 2 now.

Any help or pointers would be so cool. Maybe someone has access to technical info via a book not easily available....

Well turns out that Europarts had only substituted the rear spheres so the XA30RZ worked a treat now the rear seems soft but not too bouncy only thing is now make the front end seem too soft and bouncy so it seems I’ll be doing the front 2 later in the week :P

Also did the hydraflush and cleaned out the filters I must have been the 1st and only...

I was out in my V6 Xantia last night, and on entering a round about with a very slight bend doing 35 tops, i felt the front of the Xantia understeer, upon straightening up the back end kicked right out.

I rolled the steering right round and fought it, and floored it at the same time, and i got it back. But what the hell could of caused it doing...

I'm an ex Dunlop employee so I gravitate towards Dunlop tyres but I find the Pirelli P6000 to be fine.... speak as you find I say. Have a look at that www.mytyres.com site... they include independant test reports on all the tyres.

Had a test drive in a new shape C5 recently and it seemed to ride better than my own 3 year old, 38k mile version. Does that indicate my spheres could do with recharging?

How often does that job need doing and does it generally improve the ride? What, typically, does it cost at the dealer?

The ride in mine is fair, but the demonstrator felt...

The point about recalibrating your brain is a good one. Familiarity does breed contempt. I used to own a Vectra -- pretty awful hard ride (plus the worst reliability in more than 20 cars I've owned). I drove my mate's much newer Vectra recently, same thing. Got back in the C5 and...

I'm going to take an engine out of a car I have to break and keep it incase anything goes wrong with the one that's in my runabout.

The engine is a runner and has only done 50k.

Do I drain oil and use engine flush, drop that and when removed seal up all holes so no condensation gets in to rust rings etc?

Do I fill it to the brim with oil?...

You can buy an engine lay up set from frost autorestoration in lancashire,which has moisture absorbing plugs and some other bits which minimise rust etc forming,ive not used them but might be worth a try.

The radio information screen has just 'gone out' on my XM. It is the one on the radio and not the dashboard display, that's fine.
So before I go pulling it apart anyone got any ideas or tips?
Does it have replacement lamps/bulbs by anychance?

It been a while since I last had a xantia as I have had the C5 for just about a year but cant get over how different the suspension is

Its so soft and bouncy I’m concerned that it might have the wrong spheres or am I being paranoid?
The back end is like sailing a boat not driving a car. All the xantia’s I’ve had in the past have been the VSX or...

Ive changed the LHM today (for the 1st time :D ) but ive a couple of questions

1) I tried taking the centre section (the circular bit with all the pipes) off without removing any pipes, i did manage this, but a small pipe came loose from the centre section, this was a pipe without a clip on it, it literally comes on and of with my hand, also a...

Hi to all,

How can one tell if the break valve has packed up?

Sometimes when I break hard, the front of the car raises immediatley after the car reaches a full stop. It rises in one unique movement, like a bump. It also happens that when stopping at a downhill (eg at a crossroad - yes I do respect the STOP signs!!), the rear also does some funny...

Can someone explain to me why a failing drop-link makes such a racket? I've visually checked them and I can't see any problems!

Just one last thing - Using a bar wedged between the anti-roll bar and the sub frame; on the side that I think is okay, levering the bar pulls the whole car down. Whereas, on the side that I think is failing, it doesn't. By pushing-up on the bottom of the drop-links with just my fingers, one side (the problem side) the drop-link moves up and down...

Hello I'm not at all sure on this one it's a 1997 V6 Xantia so I will try to describe it as best I can. Cold starting is almost instant and no problem. Performance seems variable, a little bit flat at times, but that could be me.
When hot on tickover it goes slightly rough and seems as if it's running on 5 cylinders, touch the throttle and it...

Thank you thats great :D :roll: I hope its oil filled plug holes as well. As the cam belt is going to be a major undertaking then while its in pieces then the rollers/water pump etc. will be done, compared with destroying the engine then its just not worth taking the chance.
I emailed Haynes as regards the engine and they replied that they had not...

all of the lights have gone out on the buttons for my stereo (lcd display still works though)......before i pull the stereo out and try and work out whats gone wrong does anyone know if it has a seperate power feed/fuse for just those lights?

Radios have their own illumination bulbs.. Only they are connected to the Lights for dimming only at night..

I'd say your illumination bulbs on the PCB have blown.. You need to be handy with a soldering iorn.. Or easyer get another display. I think the TINY bulbs are surface mount.

Someone from a classic car club told me that if you have a rare car you may be able to write to the dvla to see if they will make your car tax exempt?

Does anyone know if this is true?

I have a Visa Gti of which they are only 37 left on the road I have found out today (only 4 Gt's left on road).

Worth a try I think if possible.

DVLA used to give you the information if you wrote in but with this government selling everything off that moves or doesn't you have to get in touch with one of 5 companies who have bought the wrights to the information.

4 of them were going to charge me at least £300 for it but this one was free as long as you don't have more than 1 or 2...

Has anyone taken the steering wheel and airbag off a C5 yet.
Is it a difficult job.
Is the airbag a job for the dealer only?
I have a slight rocking in my steering wheel and wanted to check that the securing nut was tight.

Hello All,

Is it possible to remove the nearside drivshaft to renew the outer CV boot with the car jacked up in the driveway ?
I have removed the swivel pinch bolt but the wishbone won't drop low enough to release the swivel pin from the strut, but it does allow access to all of the three torx bolts holding the swivel to the wishbone.

Ok well the truth is out
My brilliant new cars has a few bugs
1: Clunking from the rear (sound like something lose) tried removing then setting the spare as this has caused fault on others but no luck will put it on the ramps tomorrow and see if I can find it
2: It farts and drops slightly at the front end when parked on any sort of hill
