How to test external temperature sensor 52 plate Xsara

Post by citronax »

I have just bought a 52 plate 2.0 HDI Xsara estate, but the external temperature reading on the radio just shows as "--".

Anybody have any ideas on how to test this to find out whats wrong?

Thanks in advance.

"--" on the display suggests that the sensor is not plugged in, the sensor may be missing due to a replacement mirror being fitted without the sensor (non sensor mirror is cheaper). The sensor is normally a small pimple underneath the mirror near to the hinging point.

The replacement mirror i fitted had no sensor although there was a place for the pimple to sit , so using the original sensor i traced and wired and all was fine . " for a few months " . Now the display shows ----" constantly, untill i open the drivers door, it then shows -21" goes to -25" then shutting the door back to ---" .
Just wondering as to wether a sensor failure would show any reading as such .

I think a likely cause could be the old problem on Xsaras - the wiring loom to the front doors straining and breaking.

Peel back the rubber sleeve which contains the wiring to each door and see if any of the wires inside are broken.
