Hi Gang,

Has anyone on the forum stripped a rack down

How easy or hard was it and what are the pit falls

No, but I have removed one from an XM and that was enough of a job! if you dont feel inclined to buy a new one, there must be a fair few secondhand ones about with a lot less mileage than yours has.

Thanks for the reply Peter,

I was just wondering if there was anoither way to put a new gaiter on my rack.

Going to renew the track rod ends as well and obtain a recon'd Pinion valve unit from Pleiades.

At least I know the unit will be okay unlike a secondhand unit which i don't know the history.

Hi Kenny

Ah right, that's one of the few jobs I havn't had to do yet. What I would say though is check the universal joint at the bottom of the steering column, at that sort of mileage they can be worn, you will be able to feel the movement if it is.

The U.J. doesn't appear to have any extra play and is remarkably free of rust etc as per some of the other posts.
