My son-in-law is getting rid of his Citroen Xantia 1996 Manual, this is his reasons--does anyone agree he should get rid of it ?
There are a number of problems: -
The windscreen is cracked, £60 to fix.
The Spheres that form part of the suspension need replacing, about £200.
The drivers side window is sticking, sometimes when open! (Not sure if there is a permanent fix for this).
The engine has started misfiring, it might just be spark plugs but I did have it serviced 3 months ago.
Should he get rid of it ?

Depends however if all else if good...
Two spheres are £20 each and easy to fit yourself
Windows sounds like poor connections inside the door - wire brush should sort out
Mis-fire - clean plugs, leads and re connect - often cures the problem
If all else is good - seems non economic NOT to keep

Cracked screen. Many motor insurance policies cover windscreen replacement without loss of NCB and no excess. I suggest he checks his policy or talks to his broker/insurer.
There's often an arrangement that windscreens have to be done by a nominated specialist. When flying motorway debris broke a screen a few years ago. the nearest workshop was 30 miles away: next available booking in 10 days and I'd have to leave the car for the day (for the bond to set)! My insurers (NFU) agreed that both the delay and the wasted day were unreasonable and agreed that the job be done by a mobile repairer (next day). I paid the bill, they refunded me.

Except with Admiral If you don't use their nominated windscreen people they will only pay out a certain amount. Mind you, knowing what a good lot they are, I'm sure they would have come to the same arrangement as you had Guy, had I made prior arrangement to use my local mobile fitter
I love calling Admiral. They're based in Cardiff and all have gorgeous Welsh accents One lady I spoke to was called Sian, a good Welsh name. My youngest daughter is called Sian and the Sian I spoke to not only did a great job with my query but also told me why Sian (pronounced Shan approximately but not quite) is spelt the way it is. All to do with the sounds made by compound letters in the Welsh language. What service!
I digress. the point of this post was to make sure whoever replaces the windscreen understands the importance of achieving a good water-tight bond between the screen and the plastic scuttle panel. Failure to do so will cause water to leak into the passenger footwell and potentially destroy the blower speed controller.
