Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi All,
One question regarding my sons Mk2 Xantia Hdi 90 S reg.
Both front and rear washers have packed up. Checked all the fuses on board, pulled off plugs at each pump, no power to either,--checked operating arm and fed it some WD40. Are there any other fuses to do with this item?

Just picked up a 1993 ZX 16v and I'm pretty sure the rear bearings are shot. The OSR wheel is rubbing the inside of the arch! Its at a bit of an angle but I've seen worse.
Is it something that can be changed like the BX's? Or am I really stuffed? :lol:

Among other Citroens I had 2 XM's on comfort spheres. Even after 5 years I still find my C5 hard, maybe the leather seats don't help. What's this about 1.8 spheres?? Do all 6 have to be changed or is it only the front? Can you give me a part No. for the 1.8 spheres if these will help. Thanks

I've just recently bought a Xsara HDi to replace the Xantia TD Ive had for the past 6 years. Generally I'm very pleased with the Xsara so far, but the only problem is the fuel consumption. I expected a Xsara HDi, considering its a slightly smaller, lighter car with a DI engine, to be noticeably more economical than the IDI Xantia...

Does anyone know if the fuel filter housing from a ZX 1.9td Volcane is exactly the same as the one fitted to a 1.9td at all??

In its previous life some ejity has overtightened the bleed screw and its snapped off and been blocked up with some form of blutac kinda thing :mad:
I got the new bleed screw so really only need a new base for the thing....

I'm having a look at a 2001 reg Xsara 1.6 VTR Coupe tomorrow, it has 82,000 miles on the clock. Just had 4 new tyres & a timing belt.

I have a leak which leaves loads of diesel gathering around the injectors. Its not from the small return pipe or ipples. Everywheer else is dry! Does anybody know if theer are c rings around the injectors where they sit? do they perish?

no there are no O rings where the injectors sit,they have two metal whashers ,one is cone shaped which is under the nozal tip,the other is copper which is under the seatof the injector body,you would not usualy get fuel leaking from the seating point,but some times if the injector has you can get fuel leaking at the joint at the middel of its...

Hi There, Here's the problem that you might help solve. I have a Xantia 1.8i 8 valve and just today got new tyres and the wheels aligned, tracked and balanced. I left the garage after the job was done and when I accelerated the car pulled to the right and when I decelerated the car pulled to the left. On the open road the car was all over the road...

Is there a particular type I should be using for these? I'm going to change the fluid in my Xantia over the weekend, so want to bleed the brakes through.

Or do I just use a normal 8mm (or whatever the size is) ring spanner?

Essential piece of kit for the tool box is an 8mm flare nut spanner which will be more accurate than a standard ring spanner and has deeper six point shoulders. Worth getting 10 and 11mm spanners as well if you like playing Citroens.
If you think that the bleed nipple will not move with a spanner, try a six point 8mm deep socket with a tee bar or...

It can't really overfuel - what it can do is suffer from runaway if you have a roto-diesel pump and air is getting in. Roto-diesel pumps rely on fuel pressure to operate the governor - and air can even cause them to runaway - certainly control problems.

If you don't know about the air - insert a section of clear pipe instead of the last supply...

Creaking is difficult to pinpoint. Try lubricating the struts. It's a long shot but I had a lot of creaking from a pair of duff droplinks I fitted. If you cannot find out where it is, you'll have to get the car up on ramps - a creak should be traceable by feel as well as sound.

Hi Gang,

Just returned from France and while driving in Paris, just got of the Peripherique and taking a sharp left hand bend when there was a loud clunk when I hit a pot hole.

Having freely moving drop links has made a huge difference to the ride quality. I guess this just shows how stiff joints can restrict the free flowing motion of the suspension (that's cars and legs!)

There was also a 2.1.td estate 4x4 version made but im sure numbers were like 1 or 2 and LHD only :(

If you get a ncie 1.9td with bosch pump why not run it on veggie oil as parts are cheap enough now and you dont have to modify that much really.
No activa on LPG can beat it. 45mpg, lots of torque and 43p/litre :D

Hi all again,
My 99 1.4 Xsara has a very minor oil leak coming from the head gasket (timing belt end), common fault I think. Has any one tried STP stop oil leak? It's suppose to rejuvenate seals & GASKETS. I've changed head gaskets in the past, would this be a first option? Has anyone used this before?

Apart from a rear height controller this is the first time that I have had a hydraulic problem on my 94 1.9TD Xantia. I think I have traced a leak to a union where the height corrector return pipework changes from metal to rubber. This is situated below the resevoir near to what I belive is the anti-sink valve (I am pretty confident that it is...

Hi,
at random occasions my C5 2.0 petrol announces that there is an Anti Pollution error and lights up the yellow warning light in the instrument panel. It has obviously something to do with the cat, but what is the problem? Knowing the Cit rennome as I do, it could simply be an electrical error caused by water in the circuits. At a few occations...

its not neccisaryly anything to do with the cat,it could be anything related to the de-pollution system like EGR,exhaust air injection pump,coolant temp sensor etc. probably best to get the fault codes read.might even be just a software problem.

I've just put on a boost meter and found out my max boost is only 0.8bar, about 11.5psi. Mine is a 96 Xantia 1.9TD. For those who have installed a boost meter, what is your standard boost?

So far I have modified the boost compensator fuelling on top of the fuel pump. Loosened the 13mm nut, then 2 full turns clockwise on the T27 screw. Some...

How much did you tweak the max fuel screw? I turned it 40 degrees. Didn't go further yet.

Bigger turbo might not be suitable for diesels. I've modified mine to a bigger spool on the air side but noticed lack of power in low speed. I think the original size might just be engineered right for a diesel.

Hi after spending a good 2 hours trying to get my ZX's hubnut off I took the whole hub & driveshaft off as one piece!
I can now confirm that the diesel driveshafts do not fit petrol gearboxes. They are not as far out as one might expect though, the spline is about 1 > 2mm bigger in diameter on the diesels.

just did a 250 mile trip and noticed water temp gauge is reading lower than usual - normally both oil and water needles on the display are about horizontal on the dial - I checked the water level which was ok and I didnt have any problems but am a little worried as on previous cars when the water gauge reads low it has meant that I am losing...

In the event of water loss the gauge will only read cool when you have allready lost it!. If its not reading much lower I shouldn't worry about it, if it is check the thermostat, you can do this by putting your hand on the top of the radiator after starting from cold. The radiator should remain cold until the car has reached working temperature...

Hi all, Just noticed that the front drivers side strut on my '02 C5 2.0L HDI is wet. I am not sure if it is hydraulic fluid or not as it does not have the distinctive smell of LDS. Whatever it is it appears to be coming down from underneath the rubber sleeve at the top of the strut. :)
If it is LDS is it a big job to fix. I would imagine a seal...

Hi All - My '03 2.2 Hdi estate has developed an ear splitting, pedestrian frightening squeal from the rear breaks.

I mentioned this at the last service and was told the only cure was the replacement of the disks and pads.

Can anybody give me an idea of what is a reasonable price for this job as the quotes I've had vary widely.

i can i sand it and then clean it with a thinner? in thinking of painting the front and rear calipers, so it would be a 2 in 1 job

I haven't needed to do anything to my C5 brakes yet but if C5 are anything like Xantia then - No! - the corrosion is quite hard and needs to be scraped vigorously to remove it.

I've a '94 petrol Xantia that's done 178k miles.

The heater matrix seems fine.

What's the best way to keep it like that, regular flushing, high anti-freeze concentration etc.,?
Or is it just pot-luck?

Can anyone shed a light on a small matter of low level warning light for the cooling system on a 1.9td VSX Synergie. This problem being that the warning/stop light constantly flashing whilst driving and very intermitent and it is driving me crazy as the local Citroen garage say there is nothing wrong with the cooling system. There should be a low water sensor in the header tank if it has one, or alternativly in the radiator. Remove the plug and if its anything like most sensors, it will come out if you rotate it half a turn anti clockwise. Give it a clean and refit it. Sometimes crud in the water will insulate the probes.

Hi all, I think you might want to think again about the fuel filter for a 1.8i C5 as there is one listed at aep Part number EP145 price £4.50 and on the Peugeot 406 it should be changed every 36k miles and is located on the r/h side of the fuel tank. this car is an R reg SAXO VTR
what is the usual faults the hydro electric power steering pumps suffer with,as im checking one out for a customer who said the steering was intermitent then completly packed up,the relay is working ok and there is live and neg to thepump plug,so im asuming its the pump its self

Finally I got around to replacing all spheres in my 1996 Xantia SX. All went smoothly until I attempted to unscrew the anti-sink sphere.

I put the sphere tool on and applied a bit of pressure. The sphere appeared to unscrew, so I took the tool off and started to unscrew it by hand. Anyway, I thought I was unscrewing it - the sphere actually...

For future reference, the easiest way by far that I have found to remove, is to use a 9mm Snap on flank drive spanner (much better than any flare nut spanner) undo the pipe by about 1 turn, then put a band wrench on the sphere and undo, whilst holding the pipe fitting still with the spanner, this...

Does anybody know if there is any chance the seats from a BX GTi would be a slot-in replacement for the boring seats in a C15 van? Or will I need to get my hands on rails, etc.?

My poor BX 4x4 is officially a lost cause, and it's gonna be broken up shortly. The seats are a lot more supportive than the C15 ones so I'd like to do my spine a favour...

hello everyone.the car's been going fine but today as i pulled in at the shops it started making a knocking noise from the engine,also it's idling slightly rough altho it still drives ok.my husband checked the oil and the level's ok,so to be on the safe side he changed the oil and filter anyway,but the noise is still there.any ideas??

That design of ratcheting ring spanner aren't brilliant, when you put a lot of weight on them the individual flat pieces of steel that they are made from bend and they come apart. If you do want ratcheting ring spanners you want the type where the body of the spanner is forged from one piece of steel.

Hello!

I have recently purchased a 1998 Citroen Xantia 1.8i estate (petrol) :D

Does anyone have any advice for its general upkeep (in addition to the usual for a car - I'm not totally silly - honest! :shock: )
Its more the hydraulics and the like that I'm unsure of as I have been used to driving an M reg Fiesta!

Another source of squealing is when the discs wear significantly you end up with sharp ridges forming at the edges of the disc, when these get big enough it will start to cause squealing...

A temporary fix is to chamfer the pads a little bit, but the long term fix is to replace the discs.

To be honest I was wondering what would happen if I used LHM - which doesn't have these modifiers (which could be like sand or something) - but decided I didn't want to wreck something and if my recon pump fails - I don't want to have to explain why its got green fluid in it!

As nice as it sounds, I doubt if the seals in a non-LHM rack and pump...

I've replaced the two front strut tops on my Xantia, do I need to bleed the system to get fluid back into the struts? or do I just close the pressure release bolt on the accumulator and start the car?

My Xantia has a bit of a nasty rattle at idle, a bit like a top end knock. It appears to come from the top end of then engine, rocker cover area. I've had a metal bar on to listen, and it can be heard on every part of the engine.

The thing is, when you rev the engine up to 1200rpm or so, the noise disappears completely, its only there at idle,...

its always supprising how much a noise can trasmit,i always tighten these with just a 2' knucle bar and never have any problems,good job you found that before it came right of,and Richard just mind your tentioner dont give up as this can cause you cam belt to slip when the AUX drive belt comes of and get in under it

Hi all,

Got a problem with my rear brakes binding. My 94 zx td volcane was off the road while I was abroad - from March to July this year.

Upon my return found the brakes had rusted up - got the car going again - and replaced the rear discs and pads - as the discs were worn anyway. Front pads/ discs seemed ok a bit rusty - but gently driven...

I'd second that from Phil regarding Westroen. I've just transformed my Xantia by having Westroen fit all six reconditioned spheres for £150. Gone is the bouncy ride. Today the remote c/l stopped working :( . I took the key apart and found that the microswitch for lock had snapped off the PCB ( STOOOOPID design!).

If my soldering fails can you buy the PCB's or do you have to purchase a new key at dealer prices?

Can I say again what a stoooooopid design, why don't they have the button on the side of the key,...
