The cam locking tool on an HDi is simply a couple of bolts (M8 IIRC) there's no need to lock the pump as the HDi uses common rail injection, to lock the crankshaft I found it easier to insert a length of suitably bent copper brake pipe from below.

Hi Andy

A few of us have done this recently... Have a search first to pull up the threads - a little about my experiences can be found here:

Toby_HDI changed his not so long back.

A BOL will help for sure - although some things aren't as they would have you believe!

Meaning the locking hole for the crank is - Yes Behind the starter!!

You CAN ALSO use a 6mm allen key! I can insert that in the XUD eyes closed now with dooing so many, but Im sure the HDi is in the same place. Dont forget a new Belt eccentric tensioner as a matter of course! These new plastic feeble things are not like the XUD's strength, where all cam belt rollers were metal - none of this plastic rubbish - Oh the days!!

The locking hole location is the same as an XUD its just that on an HDi its far easier to reach it from below.
