Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Ok I have an LHM leak and as there is not much left in the tank its stopped leaking.
It was leaking from under the LHM tank coming straight down in a nice thin line of LHM.

So this maybe the Anti-sink valve that has the O ring problem how do i get the dam thing out from under the tank.

So far i have dropped car to low and undone the pressure...

My sons Xantia - 1.8i, 16v, Xreg (2000) has developed an exhaust leak where the front section joins the rear box and, based on previous experience, I suspect the flare and 'nose' of the connecting ends will have rusted away (the pipe looks dodgy at that end anyway).

Well I did the job today. No problems except for the fact that the car was on axle stands so not much room to work. Also I had to do this in an area with no access to an electricity supply so had to saw through the old pipe with a junior hacksaw ( not so bad though as there is room in the tunnel ).

Driving home tonight the battery light came on whenever I did less than 2000rpm.
Belt looks tight, wiggled battery contacts, no difference.

Well, Jim and I managed it, and it was suprisingly easy.

Remove the intercooler pipe, the oval one, and you may want to remove the intake manifold pipe connected to it as well.
Then remove the oil filter.
With someone holding the radiator pipe out the way, there's enough room to remove the alternator.

Course it wasn't really that simple,...

Any idea what would cause my camber to be out on the drivers side by the amounts below at all anyone?

The guys that tracked my car said that it could be bushes but to take it to citroen to be checked out. Is it worth even trying to find out whats causing it to be out at all??

In that case if it ain't broke..... It seems very straight to be honest with no real issues now the tracking has been done. ill give it another try in a few hours but im sure its fine and tyre wear was quite even on the front tyres so far Smile

Hi All,

I have a xsara td estate, the heater fan started opperating intermitently and has now failed completely.
I have taken the heater fan out and theres a 4 pin plug which has power across the two little presumably control wires but no power on the red and black, the fan if you diconect it from the power transister module works fine. So i...

I'm toying with buying a 2001 2.0HDi Forte estate, to replace my dead 94 1.9TD SX.

Went to have a look at it today and despite the mileage (145K), there's very little wrong. The most annoying thing seems to be the rev counter.

When the engine is switched off, the needle goes all the way clockwise (so sits up at the stop, after the 6500 or...

You might be able to re-home the rev counter needle by sliding a long piece of wire in. Either that or take the clocks out and give them a shake. I beleive the rev counter needle on the diesels gets knocked out by jump-starting.

Trafficmaster Oracle isn't great and I wouldn't waste 30 quid renewing the subscription, but for anybody who wants to...

Stop light came on yesterday. Put in 2l of lhm and all was ok got me home. Just as i was parking her up Stop light came on again.
Having a look around there is a leak down the back of the LHM tank cant see where its coming from and it looks to only do it when running.

Nice to see a problem sorted.
My 1995 Xantia has the openings of the pieces of shroud at the bottom, so that if water gets in, it can drain out.

It’s also possible that this problem only affects right-hand-drive cars, as left-hand-drives have most wires on the battery and fuse box side.

Hi all, I replaced the spheres on the car, all 5 except the anti sink (rear brake accumulator) I noted that the car doesn't sink at all at the rear over many days but I did notice that the front sinks about 1/2 way overnight but then stays there for days - anyone know why it should do this?

Hi all. I am seriously thinking about running my xsara on 50/50 mix all the time. Will my car run on it ok. It is a 1998 r reg 1.9td exclusive. I havent tried it on veg yet. I have got to save some pennys. I am finding it hard to get by at the mo so need to save cash some how. I know theres a rule about what pump it is.

Go on just bung it in, it's only an old Xsara after all :twisted:

No serious though, it will be fine if it has a Bosh fuel system on it, you can even run them neat, but not in the winter (jelling probs)

Hi all. I have just brought a tdi tuning chip for my 1.9td xsara on a 1998 R reg. They had it down on the list as the tuning box fitting my xsara. I have just had an email from them asking if it is the commen rail engine and wether i will need the bosch or siemens system. How would i tell. Any help would be greatly recieved.

if its a 1.9 diesel then you dont have the common rail engine. the common rails only came in 2.0

if its a common rail the the chassis number will have RHY or RHZ in it.

It's quite a confusing light that. The STOP light comes on with one or more 'major' warnings like: Oil pressure, Overheating, LHM level and LHM hydraulic pressure.

If your light is coming on on start up and soon goes out it's a sign that the Hydraulic pressure has been reached and is OK, if it then comes on again while driving, maybe flickers on...

Just driving home tonight in my year 2000 Synergie HDi and the engine refuses to rev over 3200rpm. The acceleration seems to have dropped as well.

It's probably gone into limp mode - is the engine management light on? If it's a 110 then it could be a problem with either the EGR valve / solenoid or boost solenoid. Either way a reasonable scanner should pick it up.

A friend has asked me to have a look at his 1995 Xantia 2.0 petrol Auto as the engine management light illuminates intermitently, without any deterimental effect to the performance of the car.

What about the front of a ZX looks different on a later ZX compared to the earlier one? I do prefer the later ones, but I'm not going to sell mine just to get a later one, this one I have I'm bonding with nicely, so I may fit later body parts on mine, advice would be great.

I hand painted the bumpers on my last ZX, and intend to do the same with this one. I used a matt black and touched it up now and then to keep it looking nice.. :D

I prefer the front slot on the early ZX personaly. Oddly enough the Honda is very similar in as much as it has a slot, not a grill.. :)

Right then I'll cut straight to the chase. My 1996 ZX TD SX has a Citroen fitten alrm & imobilisor. Now while all has seemed well for a week or two, locks-unlocks, LEDs all come etc, just latley the alarm is going off with out any reason. Now I'm no electrical expert so,

I like to put car at highest suspension, then drive onto ramps.. you get loads of space underneath (the end your working on - only) and if anything were to go wrong, the car - even on lowest suspension, wont get near you..

Hi,can anyone help me on this?

When accelerating in 3rd or 4th my gear lever wobbles back and forth!
Power on-wobble,power off-no wobble. There are no other nasty noises,clonks or vibrations when this occours. Similarly,no thing untoward when taking up drive.
My thought was the lower engine mounting rubber on the offside

Car is a 97 model...

Hi Gang,

I am having a problem with my xantia mk2.

the heater blower and rear heated windscreen is not working.

The car was modified by citroen with relay for usual ignition switch problem :P

Thanks, looks like I’m lucky then, as I modified nearly 10 years ago using the brown switched wire, with everything still going and dangling inside the blower cover.

Ill soon(fingers crossed!) in the next month be starting a new job thats circa 40-45miles each way everyday, nearly all of which is on the motorway at normal cruising speeds. Hi all.

This is my first posting... Thanks to everyone on the forum for much interesting reading and advice. I picked up my 2.0i 16v Xantia four months ago and as well as enjoying it loads have been picking up great advice on here (and from my long suffering mate) ever since.

My (internet found - electronic) haynes doesn't seem to cover all possible wiring circuits...

I am particulaly after AC system and ABS system.. but at Chapter 13 Page 69 it stops.. is this all haynes gives us?

Aircon should work regardless of the ambient temperature.....it has two functions, one being the obvious, to cool the car in the summer, but it's second main function is to dry the air, which makes demisting on cold damp mornings so much quicker in 'conned cars.

Don't forget, the manual tells you to use it during the winter to maintain the seals,...

My 2.1TD last had its cambelt changed just under two years ago at 71000 miles. It has now done 88000 miles.

So, my maths make that 17000 miles.

Is there any imperative to change it, given that it is two years old or is it OK on mileage?

I was shocked. The garage charged nearly £600 for the last belt change and a full service :o :shock: Surely...

I have a 1998 (S Reg) Xantia 1.9TD. The clutch cable went kaput (or maybe the clip, i'm still tasking it apart. (its the clip Ive just seen it)

2 problems apart from the expected and well documented ones:

1) The under engine cover retaining bolts/clips two have broken out, on two the threaded part has come loose from the rest of the clip making...

I changed my clip (the original was the brittle black one) before it broke and I managed to get the bolt out without sawing the head off. It was tight on the clearance with the brake pedal but it did come out. I also replaced the clutch cable at the same time.

changed the diesel pump on the BX today, and the bloody timing is out!

i locked the flywheel using a junior hacksaw, and the camshaft and pump, but still it's a tooth out.

I've started the car, it's smoking it's head off, so i've put all of the locks in place again and they all still line up, so how is the bloody timing out?

is there a trick...

Thanks Anders, you were completely correct with your diagnosis, the car needed nothing more than a twist of the pump to sort things out, the cambelt was not a tooth out as I first thought.

Some cheapie bits I found on the Rimmer brothers site - I don't know if they have any of this stuff left but it's not normally the place you'd be looking for citroen parts so if the autojumblers havn't got there first you may be lucky: the alternators look a bargain!

further to my tracking issue, which i will leave for now because one of my tyres are rumbling...

i got a pair of new tyres for the car last week (to replace the front, but to go on the back), just some cheap ones, so i could put them on the back, and put the back ones on the front...

I took the tyres to ATS and asked them to balance them...

Bit of an update on this one.

After writing off two lefthand (nearside) tyres with an uneven wear pattern to the outer edge (see above) I decided that the rear arm bearing might be the problem. As described above there was no sign of the typical Citron wheel lean that my BX used to get every 100k ish miles. There were no squeaks, creaks or groans...

Just wondering if anyone knows of a layout diagram for the Xantia relays please. Mine is a 2000 (W) 2.0i 16V estate. The Haynes electrical section kindly shows the diagrams and gives the relays numbers, but doesn't appear to show which one is which. I'm trying to locate the blower motor relay.

That's interesting Alan, I should clarify; my mate's was not modified, it's a later 'Douvrin' engined model and these had the 5 piston pump as standard - the old 7 piston one went obsolete at that time.

I can't change it now, I have had a shiny new recon pump on for only a few months... :roll:

My friends 2003 Berlingo Multispace with Air Con has developed what i feel may be either a Bitron unit or resistor failiure problem over christmas - in that no matter where the blower motor switch is the internal fans are going full pelt all the time.

Haynes BOL is a waste of time with regards the wiring, does anyone know where the resistor unit...

Think that resistor speed regulation is used only in non air-conditioned cars.
Not sure of the model, but here’s for what’s called the Berlingo II VP.
Item 4 looks like the Xantia control module where the transistors go short and cause the blower to spin flat-out all the time:

Ive bought a c5 2.0hdi sx estate comfy as a xant loads of room like the xant but im dissapointed with the mpg the computer on dash states 32-34mpg and that is telling the truth worked it out on calc,im doing same miles as in the xant but i was averaging 42-45,or is it just me having a heavier right foot but on the up side the cost of the uk road...

It could just be that you haven't quite got used to the HDi engine yet. It took me a while to get full economy on my Xantia HDi because I was driving it like a 1.9. I've noticed this phenomenon a few times when I've bought a new car. Another problem I had was that I couldn't resist flooring it when leaving towns or roundabouts.

I think I read somwhere that once a fault has been flagged, and is no longer causing a problem, it takes 7 engine starts for the fault message to go away.
Citroen dealers seem to be very good at diagnosing and fixing the same fault many times with different bits.

My APF fault would disapear after a little while but I didn't count how many...

Hi all,

Am having a few problems with my Turbo D BX, at cold start it smokes it's head off(white smoke) and is as lumpy as hell. This eventually calms down as things warm up and then it becomes just ever so slightly lumpy at very light throttle openings and up to 2000rpm.
