The most comfy car?

Post by siraff »

Hello all.
We're looking for a big comfy cruiser and I'd like some opinions on good options.
Basically its got to be huge, bombproof and comfy.
It's pretty much got to have an auto 'box and all the toys so I don't have to lift a finger.
We usually go for an old Lexus LS400 and these have served us well every time so far but we fancy a change.
Now I've been looking at S-class Mercedes, Audi A8 and 7 series BMW's but I'm not convinced they're real cruisers - especially the BMW which looks like a sports saloon made large.
I don't care how much fuel it drinks/guzzles as it won't be a high mileage car. I just want something I can get it, relax and arrive without even knowing I've driven anywhere. Preferably with a huge petrol engine (at least a 3.0 really) so its relaxed and smooth.
I was told big Citroen's were good and I looked at the C6 but I just can't afford one.
Any other ideas?

Noticed on Club-xm that there are six low mileage C6's due for auction tomorrow (19/3/10) BCA Measham. One has 22k on the clock, all the others are less than 10k. All are 2.7 HDi's and Lingnages.
Glass values these at £13k to £14k.

I would recommend the big XM, forget the renault, their engines are not as reliable!
:D  I used to have a black '92 BX GTi 4x4; I wonder where it went? :D

How about a C5 3.0 V6 exclusive, never driven one myself, but the 3.0 V6 petrol engine (as shared with the Xantia and later XM's) has very good low down torque makes a nice relaxed smooth ride, works very well coupled with the ZF autobox. A large XM would also be a good choice, however due to the age of the XM you'll either end up with a car needing some work, or have you pay over C5 prices for a decent find.

Something like this, look at those low miles, what a bargain!

Late 605, maybe.

Or - what about a Silver Spirit? Stacks to choose from, and they're mindblowingly cheap when compared to a C6.

I have to say that I agree about the Beemer, I looked at a 7 Series, VW Phatton, Audi A8 also the Jaguar XJ TDVi and to be perfectly honest, The C6 is the best for comfort, if you compare the kit included in the price, then the cost becomes negligable, and I've got to say that they do stand out in a crowd :D

Have you seen the test TopGear did at the race course between the Bee Emm and the C6. On rough ground there was no comparison C6 winner

Mercs are not the most reliable car ever, so id avoid that strongly. The shape of S-class im thinking your meaning suffers badly from body rust. Air suspension is also a problem. Someone i know with one has just spent over £1500 repairing the airbags for the suspension, and its still got problems.

Id day a 7 series out of your line up, or an A8, they are superb cars. My pick would be a Pheaton, though im not sure how cheap they are getting now. They have every toy available on the range toppers. Air conditioned and heated seats throughout, electric everything, solor panel sunroof to keep the interior fans going etc. Saying that, someone i know with a W8 version has just spent £1200 for some pipework which was leaking causing it to run badly

Big cars often mean huge bills, so be careful what you choose.

Dare i say it, a Volvo S80, i do like those cars, they are built well, bargains and descreet.

Saying that id be very tempted to get a Vel Satis, i love those, fantastic looking cars and very refined. Bargain prices and fantastic cruisers.

Or, how about a 607? Another excellent car in my opinion, there is an engine for everyone and all are high spec. Prices are appealing and they have lots of space.

So much choice!

Rover 75 Conny SE.. V6 2.5 auto.. or if you want noise go for the V8 version! 8-)

75's are cheap to buy, and in my opinion the best long distance cruiser out there. :)

Leather trim, cruise, satnav-TV, a/c, multi CD changer, etc etc.. 8-)

The diesel would be my choice in a 75, BWM eninge.

Though its a bit worrying that the car i most often see broken on a motorway is a 75! Maybe petrols and their HGs :?

I'm with Sid on this one - get a C5 V6 auto

Iv'e got a v6 auto 406 coupe and a C5 and I would imagine that the combination of the V6 engine with the autobox and the C5 suspension would make for a fantastically comfortable cruiser!! quick too!!
