Wanted - key fob and receiver for a Mk 1 XM - URGENT!

Post by EdX20 »

Anyone have a working key fob and receiver for a Mk 1 XM? Mine had an intermittent fault and although with some soldering I had it working again, it seems to have died completely now.

The code is illegible, but unlikely I'd get a match anyway. It's rather urgent as the key usually just rotates in the lock instead of engaging and opening/closing the door, so now I have problems getting in and also leaving the car secure. (Yes I know you have to push the key in as well as turning). It looks like I'm a car thief as I mess around for minutes with the damn lock.

So I might take a lock and key as well in a package deal...

Ok thanks, will do.

Update - I can just make out the code, so if anyone has just a fob who knows it may match. Meanwhile the fob's decided to work again but for how long I don't know, so any offers welcome.

And it's now impossible to work the door lock (either side) although the same key works fine in the ignition. Would just a new key solve that issue maybe?

Hi Ed

Don't know about the Mk1 but the Mk2 which is a radio type, has to have a matched transmitter/reciever, the only way you can get one progammed is by Citroen and that will probably cost more than the car is worth. Someone on club-xm maybe able to tell you if yours can be programmed.

Ed,

I had the very same problem on my S1.

As long as the locks haven't been changed during the cars life you will be OK.
Order a new key blade for your key fob (or a normal key) from your main stealer. You will have to give them you VIN number, and it will cost you about £15.

As for your remote central locking not working, you will indeed get a new 1 off the dreaded flea bay.

Just a little tip, the roof receiver doesn't store the key codes. It's the central locking ECU, which is located under the center console behind the hand brake. Sometimes they won't take any more codes and you may have to get another from your local scrappy. :D

Paul (citroenxm) sorted mine out for me. =D> I'm sure he will be able to shed some light on this for you.

AH, just noticed yours is an XM...

Mine is a Xantia, I don't know if they are the same.

Paul is definitely your man.

Thanks, the previous time the remote failed I bought a 2nd hand matched receiver & fob (both with the same 4-digit code) and that worked, so that's the way it is with Mk1 XMs.

But so far so good, but would be sensible to have a spare. My folding key only fits the glovebox, so looks like the locks were renewed before I got the car. My other key fits the driver's door and ignition, and neither fits passenger door and boot :0)

Must be a story there somewhere...

A member of another XM forum kindly sent me lock overhaul instructions, and having followed them the lock is now working very smoothly. It's not a particularly hard job, but needs care.

The file is now here under "XM lock repair":

And the remote is still working after its DIY repair, so I can relax now.

Hi All

Just for information, the Series 1 XM Remotes are MATCHED and hard coded, so you have to have BOTH Reciver and Fob to work as a Matched set..

You cannot buy just a fob and set it to work in an XM like you can in the Xantia.. a shame really, you cannot even get a Xantia reciver and fit it, even though the plug is the same...

The XM uses the older system as used in the BX and Peugeot 405 or 309 etc when fitted..

Hi Paul

Whilst I agree with most of what you say I have managed to make an Xantia type set (matched plip and receiver) plug in and work in a K reg Mk1 XM. Was some years ago and I used a generic PSA replacement IR set.
