Strange C5 Dash problem

Unread post by citroenxm »

Hi C5'rs... Car: 2003 C5 2.oi HDi 110bhp 8v Exclusive

My customer has a strange Dash Light problem.

All the lights, both illumination and warning lamps can all work fine, then when he goes to use full beam, be it either flash or driving ALL the instrument lights, BOTH illumination and warning lights go off...

Speedo revs, oil, Temp battery guages still work, but none of the warning lights or lumination lamps do NOT work... the outside stuff does, IE idicators, lights etc...

It does then later then trip back in...

I have heard a relay click just as the lights go out...

Anyone any ideas? Ive run a Lexia but nothing serious comes up: IE: No comms 2000 fault etc.

Thanks
Paul

Could it be related to the 'black dash' button. That's the one you press to kill all dash lights except the speedo.

Yes, the right hand one - the left one is the trip reset. There's another near the radio that does - something :?

doesn't the speedo still get lit up though?
i'm sure everything else is off unless you alter something ie heater controls, lights up for a few seconds then dims
been a while since i've used mine, i think both buttons do same thing?

Yes, In think the speedo does remain lit.
I played with it for about five minutes when I first got the car then forgot about it.

the black dash button is the one next to the radio. The one on the dash is the very poor dimmer for the dash.

No speedo is NOT lit up, as he was complaining he couldn't see how fast he was going..

The indicator warning lights do work either, though the indicators still work.

Have you checked the plugs on the back of the instrument cluster?

It could be a loose plug, a failing fuse or a dodgy earth connection.

I had some problems a while ago and looked at the earthing in the looms. There are several places where the earth wires are crimped together within the loom and then one wire taken to a common earth.

If you take the instrument cluster out you could check earth continuity from the plugs to the chassis.
