Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hello Experts!

We've just purchased a 1998 td Xantia, and are very pleased with it (my last car was a 309 which ran until it just didn't any more) :)

I have a couple of questions about some things I've noticed just to prepare myself in case they will incur a lot of money and hassle to get them fixed. I hope some of you can find the time to help...

I had the same problem - I ended up buying a cheap Chinese RF central locking kit from ebay. It was something like £25 including postage, and has a much better range than the infrared plip.

Yeah the key is in a bit of a state too, truth be told. God only knows what's happened to them to cause the key and central locking orb thing to get smashed...

Hi,
How Easy is it To Change Xantia HDI Belt tensioner for the aux belt?
The one on my Xantia HDI sx 90bhp has apparently knackered up. A squeeling sound came from around that area and the aux belt doesnt seem very tight, well not like it would be if it had manual adjustment.

My 2000 Xantia (2.0HDi SX A/C), has a couple of small problems I've just noticed.

First, is that the temp guage seems to sit a little cool, operating normally around 70 - 75 degrees. This in turn means that the heater hot air output is cooler than it should be. My last 1.9TD SX used to run all day at 90.

Parked up my Xantia 1.9TD N reg at a petrol station last night, left the lights on (I know) whilst i refuelled at the pay-at-the-pump, restarted the car and pulled over to the air/water the put some air in my tyres and by the time i finished and tried to restart the car it turned over really slowly and eventually died.

My son-in-law is getting rid of his Citroen Xantia 1996 Manual, this is his reasons--does anyone agree he should get rid of it ?

There are a number of problems: -

The windscreen is cracked, £60 to fix.
The Spheres that form part of the suspension need replacing, about £200.
The drivers side window is sticking, sometimes when open! (Not sure...

Except with Admiral :twisted: If you don't use their nominated windscreen people they will only pay out a certain amount. Mind you, knowing what a good lot they are, I'm sure they would have come to the same arrangement as you had Guy, had I made prior arrangement to use my local mobile fitter :D

I've had the usual Xantia fast idle problems in the past, cured with a new blue solenoid. So when the same symptoms returned recently I assumed the valve had gone again. I finally got round to trying to sort it out today, and the blue valve is OK but the pipe from the green EGR valve that presumably goes to the inlet manifold was flapping in the...

Just a quickie - I need to move the car off the drive each morning to get a van on the road.

Apart from the probably undesirable consequences of starting the engine, and moving the car 10', should I wait for the suspension to rise/fall/do whatever it wants to do before driving off? The font of the car almost leaps up on the first few revolutions...

This may be complete BS but I have always thought that the brakes would be active before the power steering and suspension as they fail suspension first, followed by steering then brakes.

The rears are dependent on the suspension pressure - although the `anti-sink` sphere supposedly rectified that. Front brakes ought to be up long before that....

Yes the plug and socket was my first guess, micro switch was the second - the plug and socket looked fine though, no corrosion, but I cleaned it with LPS1 anyway, and I also cleaned both micro switches...

In this cold weather I've been using the heater fan on full power and I've noticed something a little odd.

When I floor the throttle the fan speed picks up, then drops when I release the throttle. The obvious answer is that it's the alternator kicking in but this happens long before the revs pick up (it's a 1.9TD, it takes a while :lol: ).

Is this happening the first time you floor the throttle after starting? If so then what's happening is that by applying maximum drive it causes the glow plugs to turn off, hence removing a significant load on the electric system = faster fan speed.

That'll be it. It's not just the first time, but it's in the first few minutes.

My front passenger side C.V joint is on the way out. Have ordered a new joint twice & both times I have received the wrong one. The outer stub (on the roadwheel end) was 3 inches in length, on the new orders. The existing stub is 3.5 inches long. Has anybody any experience of this problem, any advice would be appreciated.

parked the car up the other night all was fine. THe following morning the car just wouldnt start. I called the RAC out and after some faffing around informed me that tthere was no power going to the injectors.

Why would the tensioner not go flush against the head/block? I let my nephew try putting it on, thinking he'd be there a while figuring it out and somehow he did it first attempt. When the centre (pivot) nut was tightened (lightly) there was a gap between the back face of the tensioner and the head, which I knew wasn't right but once the top...

there is a raised block above and to the left of the crankshaft, the woody should be aligned with the right hand edge

tensioner, very easy with two! with one - I used a strong angled flare spanner lodged against a pulley (see blog) and it took me a few mins!

there is only one, inner hole, for TDC on the flywheel,...

I have a fault with my instrument cluster.It sometimes gets stuck,when you stop for example it could be on 3000revs and when you start again it starts from there.Any ideas? Bu stangely when you turn the ignition on and off several times it resets it self to zero.

I am looking to buy a diesel C3, I would welcome any advice from owners of these as to realistic mpg and which is the best model to go for, the 1.4 or the 1.6.
All advice gratefully received.

I would recommend a C3 1.4 HDI. Had mine 3 years, 110 mile round trip to work so 90K miles on the clock and 57-60mpg regular as clockwork.

Can get more mpg (65mpg) but 70mph does drag the average down. No problems mechanically, tyres have done 40k twice on the front.

Hi,
MOT passed OK but recommendation - Front flexible brake hoses!

Is depressurisation required to do this job as unless you apply brakes, surely there's no pressure?

Having had the spheres changed at Westroen, I have not had to depressurise the system. Having only 6 spheres, which doesn't sink much when engine off, do I follow the Haynes manual...

Now sold my 51 plate 2.2 C5. My suspension started to go off after 65k miles. Changed all spheres to 'comfort' spheres and I then had a car with a comfortable ride. Although my C5 was III+ it was too hard for me, I understand the model with only 4 spheres is harder still - go for comfort spheres, gives a little bit of roll but nothing to worry...

What is more common though is that the interior light terminals have melted and no longer make contact, im speaking from experience here! before you go in too deep pull the panel down with the light and clock in it in the front of the car and have a good look at the connections, if i mess abouit with mine they do work but as soon as i let go of...

my 1995 2lt td has recently passed its mot , while changing a front offside wheel last week i noticed that the inboard brake pad is not wearing as quickly as the outboard pad, the inboard is roughly twice ad thick as the outboard, has anyone had this problem, does anyone know the cure, the car brakes fine.

Three of my four bolts broke when I changed the rear discs. One had a bit sticking out, one broke flush and one broke sub-flush. They were all removed by welding a nut on, the two difficult ones were extended with weld. The process had to be repeated several times but they all came out. Each time of welding heated the area more, which helped...

Hello. When the temp drops to -4 in the mornings my handbrake is frozen on. Enough to slow me down as I set off.

Hi all,

My morals have got the better of me and I am paying to get my Xsara's heater matrix replaced before I put it up for sale. So in the meantime I would like to get as genned up as possible in readiness to swoop in and get a bargain.

My target C5 would be a high mileage ex-fleet facelift 2.2HDI saloon in Exclusive/VTS? or at least SX format....

hi,
I have had my 97 Synergie for a few weeks now.. and have been using the key to lock as the plip fob was knackered (well it was till I gave the pcb the once over).. now its working.. shouldn't the alarm work?
Getting no flash of the indicators.. so may be disabled
I have had a quick look under the bonnet for the key switch that a few threads...

Guys and girls,

Since getting my accumulator sphere changed a couple of days ago, i have fallen ever deeper in love with the citroen hydraulic suspension system =D>

I changed mine on my 95 Xantia because it was ticking every 11 seconds or so. I wasnt sure if it needed it that badly because it still rode very well and responded as it should,...

Does anyone know off hand the hex size for the two hex nuts to remove the airbag from the steering wheel at all as there appears to be some kind of rubber edging that is preventing my tools from getting to it :(

Any help mucho appreciated as im sticking the car up on ebay tonight if i get a chance and want to replace the steering wheel, not only...

My Xantia TD has the water present in fuel light that comes on/flashes intermittantly and drives me mad. I drive the filter regularly and looking around the internet this seems like a common problem caused by an over sensitive sensor. Short of removing the dash and taking the bulb out, is there another way to disable this sensor ?

Hi. I had to replace the leak off pipe from injector 2 to 3 on my 1.9 td xantia. I didnt have any injector pipe available, so have cut off some of the LHM resivour overflow pipe and used that to get me out of a hole. This has worked and is holding. The question is will this be ok for a permanant repair and what does the leak off pipe do. I assume...

...as long as its also fairly heat proof, if its rubber it should be OK but plastic will go hard and leak again. I believe you can get it in Halfords for not to much money. Yes, they return 'leaked off' fuel to the tank.

Does anyone have any data relating to the above
particularly with respect to changing them between vehicles
the early ones up to N reg have a 2 row plug by P reg they had implemented 3 rows an identically sized plug but with a different
key to prevent interchangeability.
I suspect there was another change when the remote door...

Hi,
How hard is it to replace the alternator belt on a Xantia 2.0 HDI 9o bhp?
It has an automatic tensioner.
The reason I ask is because the power steering and alternator dont seem to be working normally, and the seems a good bit of slack in the belt itself, so therefore it think it has stretched as the auot tensioner seems at its max.

Hi,
My gearbox on a C5 2.0 hdi 2001 was overfilled by a litre.I didn,t know and ran it for 3 months.When it started showing worrying signs I drained it and refilled with clean correct oil at the right level (1.8 litres).
It ran fine for 3 months but has now started being reluctant at time to go into third and fourth.When it is in gear it runs...

Hello Axford, I've only just read this thread and see you are a little perplexed. Is the gearbox still baulking in 3rd and 4th gear?

If you have now put the correct Total BV oil in the gearbox, providing the gears are selecting cleanly, without baulking, you may have saved the gearbox from any further serious damage.

As a precaution, I've taken a pedal bike inner brake cable with a soldered nipple on, passed it through a hole in the n/s bonnet catch lever & run it down pass the side of the radiator to act as a second release cable.

Has anyone changed a rear seat belt in a Xantia saloon? 1995.

I have my MOT on monday and the only thing i can see is a tiny split in the middle of one of the rear seat belts.

The C pillar is the bit im worried about, ive had the bolts out from the boot floor before when i changed the boot carpet.

Easy job?

Hopefully they wont notice it but if so then i will need to get on with it.

Luckily (in a way) my C pillar trims could do with replacing as they have gone baggy. That way i might be able to butcher them to get them out easier then take my time putting the new good ones back in.

Some expertise required here........

Ok, ive had the front accumulator sphere changed today due to a frequent noise happening every 11 seconds......since changing the sphere the noise now happens every 30 seconds.

Now i know there is a thread on here about a similar thing on someone else's Xantia, but i want to make sure that we are talking...

Hi All

Started driving the Xantia this morning and noticed some wind noise, driver's window not shut properly. To cut the story short - the winder motor audiby spins, but the window glass is free to move up and down (by hand). I've sort of wedged it up and it's kinda staying there, ish.

I have just sent my ecu away for unlocking, Bosch MP5.1.1. The guy who is unlocking it told me that it has a faulty EEPROM but there is no extra cost to what I have already paid. He also asked if it came from a car with the keypad, I have told him it did but im not 100% sure. so does anyone know if the xantia 2.0 16v from 1996 had a keypad?...

I know there's been lots of posts on this subject, but.

Currently, what's the definitive headlamp bulb to use in my Xantia Mk1 to improve the lighting, Phillips, Osram, Halfords own brand or what?
I'm fed up of guessing where the kerb is on wet unlit roads. I'll get it wrong one day (or night)!
