Ah ha! NO NO NO..

Thats MOST defeantly NOT a 16v!!

ALL 16v engines had a front rocker cover with 16v on it...

Because its auto it remains with the 8v engine...

So its a no, its an 8v as the engine picture CLEARLY shows...

Thats a title mistake... it will only be about 115bhp with a CAT, so a little slow ish..

ANYWAY, thats an OLD Stock car, the ZX was dead by R 1997 Reg!! The Zsara was here..

Citroen/Peugeot stayed with 8v engines with auto box's even though the 16v range was out...

By the time the Xsara was out, they has switched to TU engines in all sizes except 2 litre... meaning that Xsara Autos are 1600 or 1800 TU engines..

I vote 8v - the airbox cylinder head cover and manifold/throttle are giveaways.
The 16v of this vintage has a large black plastic branch of induction pipework
on the top of the head. Anyhow, autobox on a 16v? No!

I must say, I was 99% sure it was 8v... I didn't think - other than an XM - you could get a 16v 2.0 auto of that vintage. But was there a 16v auto Xantia? I'm all confused. lol!

16v Xantia auto?

Yes, but not till around V or W reg, when they finally dropped the 8v engines...

But Xantias also had 8v engines with auto box's.. A rather confusing setup, why they couldn't just drop the 8v lumps from the off is anyones guess...

Ah, possibly for the low down 8v torque rather then multi valve high end power setup..

I think Im right thinking iot wasn't untill the Auto adaptive box came along was the switch to 16v engines right through

SWMBO used to have a 2.0l Volcane auto and it had an 8v engine, a bit older than that one though and different (nicer) wheels. Good car though and got me excited

2.0 16v Xantias had the later electronic AL4 autobox I believe.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Thats what I suspected then...

The older hp18 box obviously did not suit the high revving character of the 16v engines...

I thought the autos went 16v with the hp20... and al4 - or is AL4 XUD TD only...

My R reg is a 16v engine with the AL4 autobox. Currently on 160,000 miles and still going strong.

AL4 on the s2 2.0i 16v's. The 8v 2.0i auto Xantia is OK. it's not a race car
mind and runs a 4 speed ZF HP14. I've fitted a 1.8 different final drive ratio
box new off the pallet from Citroen to it mind and it certainly get's up to
speed well; not an overtaking car though.

The Zx had an auto offered on the 2.0i although it was called a Volcane.
4 door mind not the 'sportier' 2 door!!

There were Series I Xantias here with the 16V and ZF box. Nearly bought a green VSX spec one.
