Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hello all,
I am nearing the end of the process of doing up my 2.1 td sx xantia estate and have pretty much everything to it except the diesel injectors.
My car has now done 140,000 miles and after looking through the service history the injectors have never been serviced or changed.
The car is a little thirsty and a bit smokey and I am sure the...

The main thing you see on cold injectors is soot.

I was thinking more of the hard carbon that covered the exposed pintle tip and surrounds which I assume would affect the spray pattern? I have only seen one method of professional cleaning rigs where the spray pattern is a guide to how long the cleaning solution is pumped through them.

Part of an ongoing project ( :wink: ) has seen me print hundreds of pages off the Service.Citroen website, and pore over differences between drivelines/suspension.

One of the more interesting discoveries has been that the AL4 spec subframe is held on by 1/3 less bolts! :shock:

All subframes have four trailing edge 12mm bolts through shock...

You still need a vibration isolator in the juncture. If you hardmounted the subframe to the front rails, you'd get massive ride harshness.

Recurring stresses are a good way to failure test an under-engineered part. :lol: If work ever slacks off (feels that way :roll: ) I might put it on the hoist and start mocking up bent bits of coathanger...

Hi all
having just driven the above and given her a minor service i have discovered (SWMBO forgot to mention :twisted: :twisted: ) that one of the drivers seat mountings is loose.
on further investigation it would appear that the captive nut is missing that the bolt screws into.
looking at the other mounting the captive nut is able to slide side...

In doing my routine car checks this morning, I noticed the auxillary belt was making more noise than it should. Long story short, the spring tensioner is seized solid and is no longer a spring tensioner! In fact the belt is not really fully tight now, even with the eccentric tensioner adjusted fo full eccentricity.

New tensioner fitted today and although a struggle and needing two of us, it can be done in-situ without removing the alternator, HP pump or dropping the engine off it's mountings. The challange is to get the lower spring bolt out due to very poor access and to get it and the spring back in again! A ball ended 6mm Allen key did the trick!

had a flat tyre on the left back on C5-1
noticed this only after few weeks - it was fine in normal driving - only on motorway I noticed some vibration - like unbalanced wheel.
So I am know what to do if I got any other tyre flat - move it to the left-back and drive home...
I usually drive alone - probably if you have someone on the back seat it...

I've been lazy about asking about this, because we don't use the boot a lot... but when we do it's a pain in the derriere!

What appears to have happened is that the cord that holds the shelf up has come away from its various 'locating' parts. Difficult to explain really. Small plastic parts that don't seem to stay in place.

A quikie really, Anyone changed FRONT brake pads on C5 Series 1,? Is it straight forward? I assume they are a wind in calliper? Also are there different sorts for the C5 or do they use ONE style accross the range... my indi says theres only one type for them listed...

Important you do wind back pistons in opposite directions.

Also pistons have slope sided cut outs in them rather than the straight sided ones on xantia etc. This makes using the screw diver method of winging back more difficult.

You can get handed windback tools but there are about £15 each. I have also seen adaptor cubes (each side suits...

I have 2002 Xsara hdi 110 and the drivers door sometimes locks and unlocks when the door is opened . I thinkthere is a problem with the wiring that connects the door to the bodyif the car. Is this part of the harness replacable.

My son has an Xantia II without the sports button I had on my VSX - Can someone tell me how many spheres the Xatia II has - I am geographically removed from the car but will evidently be doing the spheres over Xmas (according to my son - lol)- jingle bells.

Without the button will be without Hydractive. Just the standard Hydropneumatic suspension

The car will have 6 spheres:

4 corner spheres
1 anti-sink
1 accumulator

I know us Activa owners have always been annoyed with the UK only having the 2.0i 8v Turbo CT engine , and no V6 or HDI, but looking here..

It has the V6 Activa as 0-100Kph (which is 60mph) as 8.8 Seconds.

Now Parkers has the 2.0i Turbo as 9.2, and i've seen 8.9 on some places.

Surely the V6 Activa cannot be that slow? If it is i'm no...

Obviously the V6 mated to an activa suspension would need to have a manual box for full use.

Thats what I think anyway.

Luckily they thought exactly the same at Citroen, and equipped all the V6 Activas with manual boxes. :)

BTW, the swedish Bilsport magazine tested V6 Activa in 2000, and managed 0-100km/h (0-62mph that is) in 7.65 seconds:

Priming the fuel - I've got that covered and a spare battery if it needs a lot of cranking to get all the air out.
Priming the oilways - I'm thinking; disconnect the IP stop solenoid feed so it doesn't try to inject fuel and cranking the engine on the battery. For how long?
Bleeding the coolant - I don't have any concerns there having successfully...

Excuse the posting but I have intentionally posted this on the forum to tell people (via the search engines) how to open a locked boot.

The wife borrowed my Xantia estate two weeks ago and came back with complaining that the boot would not open on central locking or the key.

hmmm yes.. nothing on the Xantia is complex to fix as far as Im concerned, come to think of it, nor on the XM, at least the XM does NOT have the stupid complex Height corrector housing like the xantia, and uses the older BX style of anti roll bar linkage... MUCH better and less siezure prone...

My TurboCT's alternator died. I took it to a local shop that 'fixed' it for US$150 and it lasted a day... new is not valiable and for a used one they want US$500.

I am going parts hunting tomorrow and, as nobody down here knows what a TurboCT is, I though maybe an alt from another Citroen or maybe a Peugeot may fit...

The only thing that slightly spoils our 1995 1.9TD as a long-distance express is the muted wail from the final drive. She's only done 88,000 and has wailed from the day I bought her a couple of years ago.

I drained the transmission (warm) and refilled with the correct type/grade at the first (catch-up) service.

Is this common?
Should I worry?...

Not wanting to temp fate - but one day the clutch will need changing. If the diff isn't too hard to overhaul, that would seems to be the obvious opportunity.

Hi again chaps, back to the alarm problems Ive had since getting the car which is a 96 xantia I can not get the alarm and ofcourse the deadlocks to work on the car I have done a few things. I have changed the roof censor and the control box under the n/s seat, these are out of my 97 xantia and I know these work, when these were swapped the alarm...

i have one the same as Anders mentioned, never had any troublewith it and used it on BX's XANTS pugs, the only ponit i will add is it is best to undo the O/S one with hub removed from the car, otherwise you risk pulling the intermediate drive shaft joint appart

I have just bought a 52 plate 2.0 HDI Xsara estate, but the external temperature reading on the radio just shows as -- .

Anybody have any ideas on how to test this to find out whats wrong?

I think a likely cause could be the old problem on Xsaras - the wiring loom to the front doors straining and breaking.

Peel back the rubber sleeve which contains the wiring to each door and see if any of the wires inside are broken.

Hi all,
Last week I had to replace a fuse which I blew while fitting a new stero which is the same fuse as the remote central locking and clock etc which is now replaced and all working fine but now my dashboard lights and the light behind the clock dont work and I cant see my dash at all at night.
I have looked through the fuses but cant see...

Have you checked the rheostat under the steering column/did you re-connect it? It may simply need a thump as they are notorious for poor connections.

Right as I am about to embark on a cambelt change as many of you know, the water pump and coolant is being done at the same time.

r reg 2.1 xantia diesel wont start first thing in the morning. after i bump start it down the hill it starts ok for the rest of the day. i've put in new heater plugs and new battery. any idea's what the problem could be?

The main signs of a bent conrod is smoke out the exhaust & rough running. The other thing you may find in the near future is the engine management light on & a fault with the airflow meter, they are quite sensitive to water & you may find rust starting to form on it.

My 2002 SX HDI-110 has just had its dash out for a new heater matrix. The local garage struggled with it and it will have to go back as the heater controls are all KB'd ( hot-cold control & fan blower stopped working!! )

In truth...I just want rid of this car but I can't sell it until the heater controls are sorted and the smell has subsided....

Has anyone seen, made or improvised bushings to adapt various Cit hydraulic line sizes?

I'm thinking about replacing the skinny non-Hydractive feed lines with Hydractive size tubes off a wreck (allowing later conversion to Hydractive/Activa).

No, actually quite simple. Look at your injectors and you'll see little black rubber pipes daisy-chained between them and going off to the fuel return line on the pump. The last injector has a rubber blanking cap where another leakoff pipe would go if there were more injectors.

my only activity recently has been to buy the wrong oil from German & Swedish (and French, apparently).
Transmission oil with AL4 in its description sounded a safe bet to me, but it turned out to be a thick GL5 axle oil, so I'm not using it.

help changed the pads on my xsara yesterday went to try them out and got a beep from dash and the battery light was on checked the battery voltage 12v no charge from alternator also the remote key fob will not open close doors bought a new battery for fob tried to reanisialise the key fob but still wont work just seems wiered that both problems...

If you only have 12 volts across the battery with the engine running you have an alternator problem. I can't see that your work on the brakes can have caused the failure - probably just coincidence. Check the wiring and your alternator belt though.

My coolingfans starts to run on highspeed, when the water temp is right in the middle of normal temp. The fans runs for a few minutes and then stops. Sometimes when the fans run, the temp rise to a higher level. Had it checked on a Citroen garage, and they can't find anything wrong with the cooling system.

ya,i know about screwing the piston back instead of pressing it.A lad told me to screw the rh side anticlockwise and the lh side clockwise.not sure about the handbrake adjustment though.maybe they just need to be bled a bit.
