MOT question

Unread post by the_weaver »

The MOT for my ZX 1.9D is coming soon. It's going in for welding on the offside inner wing, followed by an MOT. I want to remove the wheelarch liner and the plastic cover for the alternator belt, to make sure they don't get melted. Are either of these MOT fail items? If not, then I'll just remove them until everything is complete.

As above, not testable items.

I would advise re-fitting them when everything is welded etc, especially the shield around the belt area (although I've never had one on my 205) as it will help keep stones ( ! ) out of the belt area and away from the bottom radiator hose.

the only reason the alternator belt might cause a fail is if your battery is not very strong, it might cause the electrics not to function enough for the test,

I threw my alternator belt tensioner away as it was noisy and they wanted about £70 for it. Visit to scrapyard to obtain a 309 (yes, really) alternator mount for £5 along with all its fixings, then a new 309 alt belt later (along with a lot of cursing fitting it) all done. Been like that for about 5 years no issues ;)

Obviously no good if car has p.a.s though, only useful for alternator only belt models.

Thanks for the replies. I'll leave the covers off and refit them after the MOT. I've got a manual tensioner for my alternator, so no problems there.
