Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The sunshine has prompted to me to have a go at sorting out my non working sunroof.
The motor seems to turn ok and will tilt the roof up and down.When it gets to the position to lower and slide back there is a nasty crunching/clicking sound from the motor area.
I removed the access panel today to check things out and discovered that 3 screws...

The manual crank seems to jam at the same point as described.
I've loosened the motor and the gear teeth are damaged ie bent over a bit on the upper side, could this be enough to cause the problem?

If you get Xantia front discs from GSF check the diameter before you leave. Their database shows the 283mm discs but they should be 266mm. I don't know if they will correct it.

I have found that unless you shop at a branch where they have someone who knows french cars (like us) then its always worth knowing the diameter of your discs and the shape of your front pads...ie do they have ears (Bendix system) or a spring (Lucas / Girling)...i think thats the right way round :lol: its been a long day.....

Hi All although i am a Nissan master tech , i have recently taken ownership of 2x xantias one was my father in laws 1996 1.9td with 250116 on the clock runs like a dream, the other was a trade in at work & is a 1998 1.8 16v with 134000 on the clock this one has a problem i think when left standing over night it sinks to the lower suspension...

Now ive got the leather seats im going to try and go as far as possible with putting all the factory options on my lx! (sad i know i should have bought an activa but i like diesel)
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a spoiler, do mk1s fit mk 2s? I have found one on ebay that says it sticks on would this be ok?

Has anyone got any experience driving a C5 through Germany (hence the 100mph) with a roof box? Considering getting a Hapro Zenith roof box for my next cross-EU trip in June, but it depends on whether it's economical fuel wise.

What sort of fuel penalty to expect? Also, what's the wind noise like?

On my last trip the car was getting 44.5mpg,...

I would expect it to drop a fair amount as the roof box is a fair old bit of drag, even the sleeker shaped ones...

If you can mount it on the rounder shaped roof bars as i've seen them on a few cars now and they may not help much but every little helps.

Maybe consider getting a K&N panel replacement at the next service as this would help claw...

This is more a passing thought than a needy request but does anyone know anything about the GSF injectors they sell for the xantia?

N18812 FUEL INJECTOR-DIESEL XANTIA 1.9TD 38.80

I got the impression new injectors were expensive, hence the other option of having them cleaned but at that price, it's worth renewing them isn't it?

having a few probs with the cd player which i believe is a clarion PU - 2294B or very similar ,we have never had it working until today ,on entering the code yipppeeeeeee the radio worked no problem so we tried a cd in it but no joy but it kept displaying no chang is the cd player goosed or have we done something wrong ](*,)

Hi, the door mirrors on my Xant don't seem to be adjustable laterally via the door switch. I can adjust them up/down but not left/right. This is the same for both sides so I am suspecting the switch itself. What is the easiest/best way to get the little blighter off the door card?

This has happened twice now after breaking then accelerating there was a bleep and the display reads.
Engine Man Fault for a sec then goes back to normal.
When I hit the accelerator again power was back gave me a bit of a scare.

Hi All,

another update!

Since posting the (apparent) success of sorting the sunroof relay, I started experiencing the same problem of the roof not stopping at the zero point (flat to roof/shut position) again. So, for the ease of it, I simply swapped it for the relay obtained from the scrapper 405, (see above) and since has worked every time....

This 2001 Hdi Xantia has a slight and occasional issue going into third. It`s not a problem once you get used to it. Very occasionally it will miss third and be in neutral. I also notice a vibration of sorts when you place hand on gearstick while driving.

Is this vibration due to the type of box in the Hdi cos my 1.9 don`t do it........although...

Going round the Xantia 110 today I decided to change the coolant. Usual thing of slackening any bleed screws ,undoing rad plug and pulling the bottom hose from the engine block.

Flushed it all out . Topped it up with 50/50 and opened the only bleed screw I could find ( at the bulkhead matrix spigot).

Hi, have fitted leather seats to my xantia, but the rear ones dont have headrests. I was wondering if any others would fit i.e. i have seen some cheap peugeot 306 ones, or is this just crazy?
I have kept the old ones if all else fails to get covered.

To answer this one, i bought a set of 4 306 leather headrests on the off chance and they fit!
so i now have rear leather headrests a damn site cheaper than it would have been to get the others covered!
They are a pretty bang on match too!

Guys, i know the jury is usually hung on these matters but, is it safe to steam clean the 1.9 TD engine or does it cause a load of electrical problems? Mine is a mess on the block and underneath due to a leaking rocker gasket.

Also, what about the underneath of the car front and back? I dont want to knacker up anything :)

The compressor is not engaging. It is not short of gas, the radiator fans are running at half speed.

Can someone tell me where the compressor relay is located? It is not the violet relay in the box behind the battery (that is the starter inhibit relay).

I also need reminding where the A/C ECU is, I don't think it is on top of the evaporator...

Absolutely Mike but in my experience you still get enough LHM spilt to make a mess. I'm perhaps being a bit critical here but I do like clean engines and the old adge that a little LHM goes a long way is very true in this case :lol: :lol: My definition of a mess is perhaps a little more...

Driving Jenny for a few days recently, I noticed that when braking she tends to nose dive with the back going up quite a bit.
Now Cassy squats under braking, even when moving slowly.
Jenny has a much more floaty ride, whereas Cassy's is actually quite hard.
So which one is behaving properly, and what would cause the other not to?

I'll third it for Anders on air in the brakes for the squatting/ lift - I'm not certain why it sometimes causes lifting rear and other times squatting. My Xantia would lift at the rear braking and then pull down as the rear brakes then activated after the delay.

On the BX the rear would squat upon braking with trapped air due to the rear...

found some time yesterday to start work on the xantia i bought recently so started with the engine mount ,top part of bracket off jack underneath then it got tricky the mount has broken so i know have to try and hold the the rest of the mount still and undo the nut but because the bottom part of the mount is rubber and flexible i cannot get the...

Diesel mountings allways used to be softer, but you may be right. If its physically the same, check the stiffness of the rubber. Most XUD mountings are very similar.

Some weeks ago I acquired a 1997 Xantia estate, 1.9 TD SX with 138,000 miles on the clock. It had been destined for the scrap yard but was ‘saved’ by DickieG. It was to use for work instead of my Volvo T5 auto estate. The Volvo is immaculate despite its 184,000 miles, but its luxury is at a price. The 38 miles round trip to work returns 20mpg....

Hi

My C5 has always since I have had it (some three months now!) had a steering bias to the left.

When I took delivery there were not two tyres the same on the car, two new tyres were fitted on the front problem improved slightly.

Tracking checked and set on a Laser tracking set up, problem improved very slightly, but still exists, it's not...

Righto, i did offer my Xantia away for free but a mate of mine offered to fix it and give it some TLC. However it broke again last week. I am on a mission now to keep this car forever, it's a bit reminiscent of Christine the way it acts. I just can't get rid of it.

Since then the ac has been bypassed but the belt fell off the idler was bent.

Can anybody advise me as to the whereabouts of the Ashtray & Cigarette lighter bulbs in the C5. Also any tips on replacing those bulbs. The car is the 110 BHP model, year 00. I haven't got arounf to getting myself a Haynes Manual YET

Thanks Steve. I got the job done successfully. I removed the (soft) trim around the gearstick, then the outer trim (around the gearstick). which gives access to the cigarette lighter. There are 2 screws at the lower base of the trim sorrounding the heater controls, radio, etc. By removing the two screws and the screws holding the radio in place...

All the posts about swapping seats lately got me thinking as my rear base is split/fraying I'm wondering...

I know I have to determine hatch from estate, are there any other differences I need to avoid for my MK2 hatch?

Is it possible to retrofit leather electric seats and if so, is it straightforward?

Having just swapped cloth for leather on a car that looks the same age, i am pretty sure you will not be able to connect the airbags without an awful lot of difficulty as the airbag module in your car will be for two air bags whilst the later ones wioth side airbags will be for four. Possibly if you could remove the airbag module from the donor...

If they are at all stiff to move I'd be replacing them as a matter of course as they will only be worse next time. I'd also put a trace of Coppaslip or graphited grease on the new threads to reduce the chance of them sticking again. At least baptise them in LHM.

LHM dose not affect pad material at all, unlike brake fluid and other oil's LHM will clean off with petrol/brake cleaner, then any residue will burn away with use,

also there is no need to depresureise the hydraulic system to remove brake bleeding kniples,

I've recently had my cambelt changed on my Xantia 2.0 HDI. Ever since Ive been loosing coolant somewhere... :evil:

Job Done!

Today I started by draining what was left in the cooling system then flushing everything out. I filled up with new coolant / de-ionised water utilising a header made from a 1 litre de-ionised water bottle. I used adhesive backed foam strip for sealing the neck. There were two bleeding points that I could find - one on the thermo housing...

Hi All

Your thoughts on this: Ive a 1998 S reg Xantia S2 TD Estate in, with Air Con.. Firstly, the cooling fans didn't work, but I sorted that to a break in TWO wires behind the passenger headlight, so got them going...

I swapped the Air con ECU's over, and mine worked fine in theirs, and the problem remained... so after a bit more head scratching and checking wire continuety my last resort was to try the blower motor itself......

Problems started last summer. I reversed out of a parking space and then it cut out completely. Would not start and ended up being towed home! The following day gave it a good check over, fitted new fuel filter and air filter but still would not start. After hours checking one thing after another, came to the conclusion that the fuel pump fitted...

If i remember right one is black & one is brown & both are 23 pins they are located in between the ECU & the bulkhead, they look just like the connectors that go between the front doors & the body, they twist anticlockwise to disconect them.

ive had this car since new only covered 8300 miles

had problems late last year car constantly coughing and had erratic running

fault found by dealer to be exhasut gas release valve and ECU

hi my p reg xantia has over the last few weeks has for some reason got very hard on the rear especially when i go over those dreded speed bumps and the car is bouncing from the rear .
i know the spheres go but would this only happen on the rear like this and if so are they hard to change or could it be something else ?

Ref the height linkage tip from red-dwarfers, it is always sensible to ensure the linkage is free and lubricated but I can't see how ride height will affect ride comfort - unless it's so low as to be near the bump stops.

Drained all Hydra flush out today, cleaned out reservoir/filters with petrol, fresh lhm, bled all brakes.
I gave the steering good thrash back/forth approx 20 times while up on stands...no hint of any leaks.....suspect due not working very hard with wheels in the air.

Xantia N reg 16v 1.8 96000miles

After sorting out all my lazy hydraulic issues, with the generous advice offered on this forum, by combination of brake bleeding/new spheres/cleaning filters, I added Hydraflush (only 400 miles on this so far), treated it to new cambelt/w-pump/aux drivebelt.....all sorted!!! (so I thought)

This is interesting! A pinion leak after a Hydraflush....

Ive a Xantia 1994 L reg, Anti sink, with 208,000 uk miles on it, just before I got it I did a hydraflush on the system for 5k miles then changed back to LHM... some 800 miles later, a weep, or what looks to be a weep on the steering pinion ...

Does the hyraflush do more harm then good to...

the time has come for a hydraflush and filters(all) change on the good ladys xantia (easter used to be work free :) )

have grasped most of the basics on the hydraflush but not sure how the top clip/bracket comes apart on top of the LHM tank is it just push/pull??

as for the oil change ive done a few on other cars but as car is not here till...

Best to loosen the bleed nipples with a hex socket with the same amount of sides as the nipple. It is a far better fit and I always start with it after plus gassing. If one of your nipples is past it try a smaller socket hammered on. Only as last resort mind.........although it has worked for me many a time.

The same trick can work with a union...

i cant even drive it unless i disconnect the vacuum pipe from that disc shaped device between the back of the head and baulkhead.its still very underpowered,smokes like mad and only does 15 MPG, but it should get me to the garage,which will save me 50 quid. any ideas what could be the problem could be, and could i do any damage if i drive it ?...

The disc shaped device behind the engine is a vacuum pot operating a common butterfly valve axis for the engine cylinders air intake.
What exactly this arrangement is intended to do is beyond my knowledge.

Hi

I need to move my non-working fob's key to a second fob.

Any easy way to remove the rivet holding the blade or do i just mash it to death :?

Similarly, on the receiving fob how can the blade be refitted?

Looks as if there's a dealer tool for this methinks :(

Thanks for the advice. I now have a fully operational plip. :D I did have to put a couple of miniature screws in to secure the blade but that's OK.

This sounds like the bearing on the rear suspension trailing arm. Unfortunately Citroen pre-packed the bearing and then didn't provide a grease nipple to top it up.

Hi,
My main airbag warning light is flashing on my MkII Xantia HDI Sx.
The side airbag light comes on and goes off once the engine has started.
The main airbag lights up and then flashes allthe time. On the odd occasion it goes out, but then when I turn the wheel it comes back on again. That says to me that it is the drivers airbag at fault.

My windscreen washer wont operate. It on the 1.9td estate. I have checked that power is there at the feed to the little pump on the bottle.

Assuming that pump has failed can we get a pump from Citroen or is it the whole bottle assembly? Do GSF do any kit? Awkward sod to get into.

Its a lovely suuny day so i thought i would play with the car..Big mistake as usual..

The cartridge wont come out of the cd changer, it used to but its stuck..Any quick fix to get these things out or will a sledge hammer be needed..

The speedo on our ZX occasionally doesn't give any reading, but on the next startup it works fine. According to Haynes it has a mechanical drive with the cable break point in the engine bay on the left hand side of the scuttle.

Every instinct about its behaviour tells me it's electrical, when working the needle is smooth and steady and the total...
