Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

i have had the car 6 months and every now and then the sport and ice mode kick in at the same time everytime this happens i pull over and turn engine off then on again and its then fine it has done this only 15 time in 6 months and 1 month it didnt do it a :x tall can anyone let me know how to solve the problem

Generally recommended is copper grease, has a very high melting point so it doesn't spread all over the place and contaminate the friction surfaces.

Hi All

In pursuit of getting aircon working properly discovered the 3 relays burnt out and all testig points to ECU.

Any recommendations as to where to purchase new or recon?

I tend to steer clear of breakers from past experiences.

HI All

I successfully changed my Harrisson compressor and receiver dryer.
Very happy with myself when it passed the leak test in the garage and they filled up with refrigerant and oil.

However today it seems that it is leaking from exactly the same place as my old compressor! balls.

I think Paul (Citrroen XM) had a similar problem.. and i have...

Yup i changed it for an identical compressor.

will try changing the spacer/slackening the bolts later today and see if that helps. but having already loosened that joint, i'm afraid the problem may be here to stay :(

Hi,

If I crack the fuel line going into one of the injectors how much fuel should I be expecting to be expelled?

Below is a youtube video of the one of the outputs from the fuel pump going to the injector, does this look like there is too little being ejected?

I'm wondering if the springs could be replaced with pump in situ? Don't think so as the pump needs to be held with distributor end upright to stop all the plunger mechanism from dropping out.. hmm, am sure someone's going to achieve it at some point - never say something can't be done eh ;)

Hi, I am going to fit a 3 to 4 psi facet pump to my fuel line in my xantia 1.9 TD estate, to help to lift veg oil from the tank and pressurise the fuel line.this will also help in the changinging of fuel filters in the future by bleeding all of the air out of the system easily.

but I am a little confused as to where I should take a live lead from...

A relay is just an electrically activated switch in simple terms. You apply a voltage (12 or 24vDC for automotive applications) to two terminals (the coil) and it will relay whatever is connected to the input terminal out through the output terminal.

In your case, you'll apply the 12v from the oil pressure switch to turn it on and it'll relay...

Hi all,
Failed today. :oops:

Not too bad tho, only 2 things. The front suspensions lower ball joints on both sides.

The BOL says I need a special tool to take these off and put the new 1's on. And I should entrust this work to a main stealer!

This can't be true... Has anyone done this job without said tools?

it may work wotwot.. like i say its not really gauranteed, and as andmcit says, peens removed can only help..

its worth a try if your stuck, its not really the way i approach jobs now (this was 6 or more years ago) but worth a crack :D

The locking catch on the rear hatch of my Mk 2 Xantia V6 has come adrift. The two steel inserts into which the securing bolts screw have come out of the plastic of the hatch, and they must have been loose for quite a while - the holes in the plastic have opened and there is no longer any purchase for them to bite into.
I have bodged things back...

We've just started the car to bleed the coolant only to find the footwell's getting soaked again. :evil:

AFAICT, logically there's only three possible sources

1. The elbow connector in the engine bay (which I doubt could leak back through the bulkhead due to the sandwich plates either side)
2. The matrix to elbow connector (which I did remove...

I have noticed that there is a manual available for the C5 from MY 01-08. However, this does not cover the V6 engine.

I have a copy of the 406 manual for MY 99-02 but again, this does not cover V6 models, nor the Coupe. I'm not worried about it covering the Coupe as the saloon/estate manual will provide a guide and the rest I can work out...

I got one of the bootleg ones from the net somewhere (citroen backup), and it works ok under windows7 with IE8. Took a bit of a fight to make it work though. Had to separately download and install Isoview.
Good cos it covers most Citroens, but very clunky in operation. Can get to wiring diags, maintenance procedures etc etc - nice to have diagrams...

Does anyone know a good route through the bulkhead for an amplifier power cable on a Xantia Activa CT? Where does the main wiring loom pass through the bulkhead? I know on my 306 I used a big grommet where an air conditioning drain pipe passed through the bulkhead, is there anything similar on the Xantia?

Could be the head gasket.... :(

Try this. Engine cold, remove the cap. Does it hiss? Refit the cap, run the engine for 30s, stop engine, remove cap. Does it hiss? Leave cap off restart engine, look in the header tank, are there bubbles rising up into the tank?

Answer to any of the above 3 = yes then HG is FUBAR :roll:

When the ignition is turned on there is a trange deep motor sound from the front of the car. if the engine is not started this soon stops. if the engine is started then it continues to run. however, it does not always do it and then can sometimes come on and only be noticed when slowed up and...

The noise is coming from the fuel filter. The cause is a combination of the fuel filter and the low pressure pump (in the tank). The pump primes for 10s at swtich on, then switches off if the engine is not started - it runs all the time the engine is running. I think there's a non return valve in the filter somewhere, and when this gets a bit...

what could be the problem? my car run approx. 120~130 km/h and it shakes alot.. i mean ALOT.. usually it can go 140~150km/h smoothly.. some advice is appreciated..

Does the shaking stop if you ease off the throttle at the same speed, or do you have to slow down? If the former, then it could be a bad engine mount, the V6s certainly go like that, at about that speed. Wheel balance always shows up at lower speed, tyre separation usually at lower speed.

HELP! I went out to go to the shops earlier and the car wouldn't start! It kept cranking over and over but no go! As I crank over theres kind of a slapping/clicking sound. Like a loose belt or something. Please help!! I've got another meeting in 2 hours and need the car to run!

Can anyone tell me the total capacity of oil in the A/C system for a Citroen Xantia 1.9TD (1996) ??

(the compressor says 265ml, but i dont know what that is referring to)

The number is the quantity of oil the compressor needs. It means 265cc's of oil +/- 15cc. The oil listed is PLANETELF 488. The refrigerant capacity is 825 grammes R134a (+/- 25 grammes.

Hi I have a 53 plate c5 2.2 HDi exclusive with an auto box my fuel economy is lousy about 22 mpg around town and about 42 mpg on the motorway, is this normal? The car has plenty of power although it suffers from slight turbolag when cold any ideas guys coz its costing me an arm and leg in diesel

I wonder if Jim Le Shed has put his finger on the cause of your problem - it led a sheltered life when new so the engine has never bedded in and 7 years of gentle motoring (and cheap supermarket diesel) has coked up the engine.

If it uses some oil when driven hard, that would tend to confirm.

Fill it with Shell or BP premium diesel and give it...

Above vehicle no blower, done the usual checks, it's driving me up the wall (I m ust be getting to old for this) cannot make sense of the diagram to fit relay, fiting relay not the problem just where the wires are, now it's getting dark, car going in for CT (French MOT) tomorow, and th car is in bits.......help please

Stripped out the fan assembly, took it apart 12v to fan motor, running OK
reassembled and refitted fan ass'y turned ignition on and hey presto all working, tidy up rest of the mess but leave it so I can get to everything and test and check for a few days as I'm off to Sunny??? Brittany for a couple of weeks, next week,...

Thanks citroenXM, I had my old my old S1 for 7 yrs and 100K ( up to 180K ) and the window winder never gave any problems.

I`ll have one more go at fixing this slider block , no doubt the scrappies will have a bit of a demand on S2 drivers regulators.

Just bought an ML5 gearbox from a DW12 C5 to fit onto my DW10 Dispatch engine, because it has the high-ratio diff.
Lo and behold, the bellhousing is bigger, by about 20mm in diameter - guess the DW12 block is different to the DW10. plus the clutch / flywheel is too.
Would like to know if it's possible to fit the DW12 diff into the DW10 gearbox,...

That's why I'd like to know if it will bolt into a DW10 bellhousing. Bit obscure I know, but somebody might have done it

Can anybody tell me where the Temperature Sensor ( for outside air temp.) is situated on my Citroen Xantia Mark 2. Mine is only showing lines acres, and the letter C, on the display. so I presume the actual read-out is working & the problem must exist in the sensor (wherever that is situated).

I have seen a mates xantia wiring diagram book which shows the OAT sensor located up over the blower fan unit ......I was interested as my OAT readout shows 45 deg and I have a blower snag. i was wondering if there was any connection. My next step is to read the codes to see if it shows up anything. The voltage on the light orange wire ( no 16 )...

Silly question really, but what's the concensus about renewing the pollen filter? Dunno when last done, but certainly not since I've had the car (16000miles ago).

No-one who goes in the car has any asthma problems etc.

Do you notice any difference to the heater blower etc when a new pollen filter is fitted?

Change it.........as it filters out the pollen it also filters dust and all the other stuff so it cloggs up, your blower will run hotter (it needs the air flow to cool it) also if you have A/C this will be less efficiant run longer and cost you more fuel, do not take it out and not replace it as all the stuff will end up on the...

I'm going to have to get the replacement (for my slightly mangled rear bumper) off the donor car without damaging it ('new' bumper, not car). I plan to give all fasteners on both cars a good soaking in penetrating fluid well in advance to minimise difficulties and the risk of breaking something.

There are 3 fasteners to undo on each side:

1. Torx screw (item 2) in the upturn of the bumper shut as per the diagram in Andrew's SECOND post,

Hydraulics are run off the engine so it will need an appropriate bracket and belt there. If it is not in the correct location you will need customised pipework.

The electronics is also part of the car, it wont work without the clocks, key and ecu

Hi

I seem to have something very wrong with my car :( I'll try and give as many details as possible.

there is a very loud rattling that is coming from the engine bay somewhere on the aux belt and the belt itself is spitting bits or rubber every so often,

also when looking at the little window into the aircon fluid it seems very bubbly and...

I am wondering if the pipes that connect to the compressor are hand tightened like the hydraulics or they have to be done up to a torque setting? I have left the aircon empty and just hand tightened for now so not to damage the pipes

still loving my 2008 C5 2.0 hdi exclusive. luxury feel inside and its so so quiet even at higher speeds. With sport mode on I've not even noticed the soft suspension that many talk about. effortless on the motorways. so much car for the money, even colleagues who have BMWs.Audis etc. have commented on the amount of kit in the car as standard

Sounds like the CV joint is disintegrating and is locking up. Remove the bottom ball joint and the drive shaft nut, you should be able to swing the hub out far enough to pull the shaft out. The near side is the easiest to change, it has no centre bearing, it should just pull out, if not place a tyre lever between that and the diff housing and...

You were more likely to do damage with the cable adjusted too tight. If it selects gears cleanly then it's fine. You would normally expect the clutch pedal to be considerably higher than the brake pedal, mainly 'cos the brake pedal is lower thanon a convential brake pedal.

Hi,

Finally just bought myself a Lexia which should be winging its way to me soon. Noticed it comes with 30-pin cable but not 2-pin one and I forgot to check before buying it. :? Does anyone know what diagnostic socket a 1998 Xantia 1.9TD uses?

Just curious if I'll be able to check my parents' car over, really.

It should be, especially as it will allow me to program in the new injector, and as both sides of the family have Citroens, it'll hopefully prove invaluable.

After finding the turbo in the C3 seized, I've now finished stripping it down and cleaning it all and will be refitting it over the next few days. Fingers crossed that's the end of it then...

Are there any real differences between the different engines in the way of rear silencers.

The Activa's has now sprung a proper hole and needs replacing, it's gone in the usual place - backbox side of the joint to the centre pipe.

A hunt on Citroen Service reveals the Activa backbox has a different part number to everything else, but I wondered...

were do they hide the engine code on an 02 Picasso 1.8 16V SX,

and are there any hittch's fitting a 1.8 16V lump with a diferent engine code,

like ECU compatabilaty,

I have just looked at a hydractive v6 for someone, and replaced a few spheres, but cant understand why when the electovalves kick in the car will jerk up then settle back down, both at front and back.

Does anyone have any ideas? the lexia throws up no suspension faults.

Hi

It only happens once approx 10-15 seconds after starting the engine - it sounds like the first half of a wolf whistle and is sometimes quite loud - it doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold - its got me baffled so any suggestions welcome

This isn't actually my car, it's one i went to view this morning.

It's a 1996 ZX 1.9td, 152k on the clock & in quite reasonable conditon The seller picked me up & soon after it became apparent that it had some 'issues'!

The problem seems to only afflict 3rd gear - when accelerating reasonably briskly in 3rd the whole car seems to...

Hi

I can't believe it as on the way home I thought I'd rev the car abit more
and be a abit brisk and suddenly the Engine Temp High came on the computer aswell as the Temperature Gauge right up in the red!

If might be worth while checking the connections on the temperature sensors (there's often more than one). Usually, sensor circuits are designed so that they 'fail safe' - you get a 'false alarm' rather than driving along in blissful ignorance.

You going to have to 'drain' some coolant out to change any dead sensor(s), if the car is more than 4...

Monday I drove from Godalming to Lanark and only remember seeing two Xantias - an R plate 2.0i estate NB on the M6 and a Mk2 hatch SB on the M6 - with a canoe on the roof! They are starting to get thin on the ground :cry: I suppose that the yougest are at least 8 years old, so it's not that surprising.

Well with Xantias becoming rarer it gives me more motivation to keep mine in good order.... :wink: its so rare to see any Xantias up here anymore, especially pre facelift ones. I do enjoy seeing them though when i do...and if i ever see a real life XM on the road its a treat. 8-)
