c5 HDI limp mode

Post by jonesbri »

Can anybody help me please.
I am trying to repair my daughters car. It has poor acceleration. I think limp mode.
It is a 02 registered Citroen C5 HDI
The engine management light is not on when running.
I have been useing a lexia diagnostic tool.
It indicates 3 problem areas.
1. Instrument panel fault
2. Radio post- equipment fault
3. Suspension fault P0306 permanent

I have ignored the radio equip fault.

When diagnosing the suspension fault, I tried to activate front and rear hydroactive solenoid valves it gave me an error, not sure if this is ok.
I would appreciate some help please.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Which engine does the C5 have. Is it 2.0 or 2.2 Hdi?

How many miles has it done?

Are you sure the Lexia has accessed the engine ECU?
Cheers, Kev

1 is often a phantom fault.
2 is definitely a phantom fault.
3 Is a genuine error.

Poor acceleration with no error codes is likely to be a stretched accelerator cable, you should not be able to lift the peddle up at rest, if you can the cable is slack.

Hello kev
The car is a 2.0ltr and has 148000 mls up on it. It is still in good nick.
I dont quite understand your last question. I am not overly familiar with lexia. With the ignition on posn. 2 lexia communicats with car it verifies the vin #, I go into dignostic and then global test. Some screenshots are shown in attached outputs.
Hope this helps

It's a pedal Cach not a peddle :)

Hello Cachaciero
I checked the accelerator pedal. It has 1 inch movement upwards but it still has 3 inches of movement downwards. Which seems to be plenty to get the apropriate power when moving away from standstill .
I have just monitored the car. I starts on the button. Idles at around 800 revs. which seems to be normal. If you put your foot on the accelerator down slowly. It seems slow to pick up until it reaches around 1500 revs. then seems to accelerate as normal.

1 inch corresponds to 25% of the total movement, which is about the same as mine was when I first had it, removing the slack made quite a difference to the perceived engine performance.
As to the acceleration characteristics of the engine that would seem to be reasonable, the turbo doesn't start to work and produce meaningful boost until about 1500 rpm so I would expect the acceleration to be about as you describe.
Caveat I don't have any experience of the 2.0 ltr as such.
