Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

hi, my Xantia W reg HDI 90bhp Engine management light on!!!!
The car drives ok and doesnt seem to have a problem drives ok too.... When I start the car the Engine warning light goes out and a fraction of a second later it comes back on!!!! I dont have access to a Lexia so what checks can I do before going to a garage???

The small spring, I'm pretty sure, is important to push the spindle forward in soft mode so it seats in the leak off port to stop LHM leaving via this port.

I've found that if you give the small spring a stretch, so its about 50% longer when relaxed, that this improves the plugging action.

I'm not sure what is different off hand, it has been about 5 years since I last saw one :oops:

I'd assume the mutispace ones are swivel ? (or perhaps have extra 'features' rather than being physically different (although the bases might be different they could be swapped)

Should a well maintained Xantia feel better on good roads as oppose to bad roads?

On smooth roads i cant feel a thing,but on slightly uneven roads i feel every damn thing

And this is after changing the front 2 spheres and the accumulator :roll:

New clean healthy lhm...new spheres..correct tyre pressures

I just dont feel that im getting the...

Your right, tyres have a big effect on the ride and handling feel of a car.

I know someone with an XM who has over-pressured spheres all round and has their tyres very soft, this does give it an ocean liner like ride but i can't imagine its too good to drive or very safe with its very squidgy tyres.

Ok guys, time to sort out a few ongoing problems on the Xantia. Any advice would be great.

Dashboard bulbs. A few of them are blown. Ordered a bunch on Ebay. Does the steering wheel and air bag need removing? It adjusts for reach.

Front brakes. It seems to be eating front pads. Is this normal?

Rear wash wipe. Gets just a drip from the washer...

Right. Turns out one of the front pads was jammed. It was like brand new but the other one on that side was down to the metal. Both disks trashed so bought a new pair and new pad, all Bendix. What a difference! Not bedded in fully yet but much more bite.

Changed the accumulator while I was at it. I knew it was shot as it was ticking every few...

Hi all, I understand the 1.9TD fuel filter housing is known to leak air in via the thermostatic fuel heater system. I can't remember the procedure for stopping it leaking, was it to replace the small thermostat system, or just to replace some O-rings? If so, which O-rings do I need?

Looks like a messy job..!

It's not bad. Clean the area around it first (the aluminium housing, if you are taking the plastic housing off) , and just put a good rag around it to catch any fuel. Obviously drain the filter first to avoid excess mess.

Wearing gloves is a good idea too, getting the smell off your hands afterwards is annoying.

From memory the one I checked out carefully, had the two part metal cam covers - sign of the earlier motor to me.

I've never quite come to grips with what creates the apparently different power levels between these motors and later engines. Both seem to drive similarly to me.

I think they all work fine, but my concern would be (as you have said) having the stones to wipe the stock map off of the ecu of my pride and joy and then putting another on without making a total lash of the whole thing and ending up with a car that wont run.

Well the big Citroen is pretty much dead...

Turns out that loss of coolant was due to the head gasket.

How am I sure ?

Coolant has completely disappeared from the reservior, oil has gone watery and looks like chocolate milkshake, white smoke pours out the exhaust and it barely idles and misfires badly.

i cant find the RP No. on the 100 quid 02 1.8 16V XSARA PISSCASOOOO i am fixing up (engine in and running) for my daughter,

the tyre presure lable in the O/S/F door shut is just that and is a rectangular one rather the a long narrow sticker,

is it posible to derive this from the chassis VIN No.

I would like to change the steering wheel, which does have an airbag.

Would a steering wheel from a pug 206 LX fit my van ok?

It 'might' actually fit, although as the Berlingo is the same as the Partner (more or less) and that is based on the 306, in theory a ZX wheel should fit.

Caution: Your airbag is probably not safe to connect back up if you do this, due to changes in the airbag ECU. As far as I am aware, each airbag type is designed for that ECU, with respect to...

I've searched and can't find the answer...

I'm planning to swap fuel pumps and the spare/replacement has a box of tricks under the armour that goes on to feed the stop solenoid.

Will I need to swap this part with the one off my current pump to retain the code as I'm unsure where the code lives. Or can I just swap the pump as is and the ECU takes...

AsJim said both have to be the same to recognise the keycode but if you can get the key from your donar car then swap the ignition barrells over ie the front part only and you won't need to reprogram the key.

I can't remember if you reprogramm the donar ECU and Immob to your key code. Somebody on the forum will confirm or not.

I heard that it is possible to simply swap around the wiper blade drive mechanism (back to front) to have the wiper sit on the right hand side of the car car and wipe from right to left instead of it parking on the left hand side of the car ... anybody heard of this before? and is it possible?

I have spent a thoroughly enjoyable hour this afternoon watching the Xantia perform faultlessly for it's MOT, almost as good as watching your first born performing in there first school play. And to top it all my workhorse BMW 5 series followed suit!

I always stay with mine during an MOT, if i dont go to the Citroen indy then they often need help finding things. It takes them a while to find the bonnet pull on the XM etc.

hi, i bought a badly neglected berlingo last year as a stop gap work van with the intention of buying a better van later, but i kinda got to like it!
it has had a new cambelt, brakes all round, wishbones , exhaust , radiator, missing trim and many other bits. it was very slow when i got it but now seems to quite nippy up to 70, has a bit of an oil...

Oil leak at the rear of the engine is probably the rocker valve gasket, not to difficult to change.

On the performance side, the exhaust may be clogged if its been driven gently, give it a good blast at full throttle in low gear, it it chucks out loads of black 'smoke' its probably soot.

My wife has a 2007 c4 vtr+ with a 2.0 petrol engine. The depollution warning light has come on, and the car suffers from slight hesitation and rough running but not all the time. Has anyone experienced this problem and could advise me on a possible cure.

Hello, if you have a fuel trim problem this can be caused by intake or exhaust leaks, O2 sensors, MAP sensor or even the EGR valve problems, you can check your inlet manifold and throttle body by spraying some carb cleaner on them with the engine ticking over if the Revs change you have found your leak.The MAP sensor is easy to replace, on the C5...

Does anyone have a guide or tech doc on how these should run and be tensioned as my dads has snapped clean off and while he has another belt to put on is not sure how it should route or tension.

Also do these run the AC compressor?

I've got a Citroen Synergie 1.9 TD (not HDI) and about 12000 miles ago I had the cylinder head changed, due to gas blowing into the cooling system. The car has only done just over 100K miles.

After the cylinider head was changed it used a bit of oil as expected, but instead of improving, the oil loss has gradually got worse. It's not leaking out...

I think the Head was replaced with a new one MyG, so the best bet is that they forgot to fit the seals.
Does anyone know if you can see the seals without stripping the head? I expect not, but you never know!

From cold and going uphill,the vehicle misfires to the point of selecting 1st gear to get over the top.Orange light on at right side of(I suspect engine management light)dashboard.I know its vague but this is exactly how the daughter describes it.Help!!!

Gut reaction is EGR which is screwing up the mixture etc and causing unburnt fuel symptoms.Nice if it is.Will post results as and when.Getting desperate now.
I doubt very much its the EGR valve as i've yet to see a 1.6 petrol picasso with an EGR valve fitted. The 'possible causes' lists you get with generic diagnostic tools & autodata etc are not...

I had an issue the other day when my C5 just suddenly stopped whilst doing around 70 on a dual carriageway.

No idea why so i opened the tailgate to get at my tools only to find the tailgate actually dripping in diesel!!

Hi,

I have been having some problems with the fuel guage. It originally displayed incorrect readings that were corrected with a technical tap on the dashboard, however mine has now failed completely including low level light (no fuel level and the low level light illuminates all the time).
I changed the in tank pump and sender a couple of days...

Just totalled the passenger front door on my Xantia. Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between hatch back doors for both models?
Been offered a door from a mk1 by a scrapyard but don't want to waste time or money, got to have it sprayed and fitted!!!!

It's a 2.0 HDi Forte, Red. I'm based in Sheffield and have been assured by French Spares in Ranskill that Mk1 & 2 front doors are same.
As Jim states the internals are different so you'll have some adaptations to do to make the door card to fit if you're using a Mk 1 door on your HDi, I think the door locks may also be different so you'll have to...

Is there a difference between an xantia mk2 estate front wing & a an hatchback ? i did nt think there was but i have been trying to buy a replacement wing & bonnet for my xantia and one of the scrap yards i spoke to says they are different ?

Passenger door on my s2 Xantia drops when opened, it seems to have rotted or something has come away behind the hinge.
I can't see a way of fixing it?
Removing door and wing will still not give me access to back of the hinge.
Has anybody else had this problem no what it is and did you sort it.

There is a thicker panel - about 2mm - behind the pressed skin . Weld is supposed to fully connect the two, fusing it all together.

Quick question regarding filters for the ES9J4S engine.

Am I being completely stupid or will a different size filter have a negative effect?

I have a filter that is the same diameter as the OEM one but it is about 4cm taller. Same thread size and by-pass valve pressure.

EDIT: Ignore me. The one I supposedly need is about 1cm smaller than OEM....

I am using the same filter that is used for 1.9 td. Two reasons:

They certainly fit but they are considerably smaller. I worry that some factors list them for the V6... Personally, I'd not use them.

I use the Mahle OC503 and this is a considerably bigger filter but not as big as some, notably Mann, that I've seen.

I have a '53 C5 Exclusive estate 2.2HDi. Have had the particulate fluid topped up at 95k miles and now with 135k on the clock it's warning me again that the FAP fluid is low. It was expensive the first time to do at an independent dealer but have now moved to NE Scotland where I can't find one so might have to rely on a v. expensive main dealer....

I tried to wind down the rear window on my ZX (5 door), and the window was stuck closed. So I used a bit more force and heard something break. The handle is now rotating, but the window remains closed. The problem is due to lack of use, I expect.

What is the most likely thing to have broken? Would it be a snapped cable, or a cog?

My MOT is due...

I have been trying to get my C5 ECU zeroed.
Spoke to my local dealer they Quoted £187.91 for 2 hours labour!!!!!!!!!
What a rip off.

Spoke to Citroen Specialists 1495 Pershore Road Strishley West Mids,

01214583111 They will reset ECU and check for faults for £39 yes £39.

The guy could not be any more helpfull if tryed, car goes in on...

2 days ago I got an alarm:-

Level of Diesel antipollution additive low

I had the FAP changed and Eolys topped up at 110k miles and i've only done 133.5 k miles now. So, would it run out over 23.5k miles when it should last 50k?

I put the C5 on axle stands and took the cover off the additive tank.

I got the level checking plug off and...

I took my C5 to the local specialist and left it with him for the day.

He charged £40 + vat to reset the FAP. Not sure exactly what he did.

When I picked it up he told me to fill with 25 ltrs of diesel and then take it for a run up the motorway to regenerate the FAP.

As I pulled away the alarm was still present, so, I put 25ltrs in and took it...

It will almost certainly be due to faulty ultrasonic sensors which are located behind the mirrors. To test whether they are the cause of the false alarms press the button to the right of the steering column to disable them just prior to getting out the car and locking it, this is a common fault with new sensors costing around £30 a pair IIRC.

I found yesterday that the reason the fan was not working on the activa was not because it was full of water at all but because the ignition switch was failing, seems a bit daft sending all that current through a ignition switch.

the reason the contacts in the ingnition become burnt is through it being switched on and off whilst high current draw items are still switched on,

i tell my customers to switch everything off before switching the ignition on or off, this will help to stop the switch failing prematurly,

All spheres are at proper pressure, no leaks, only little return on return pipes but regulator keeps clicking and clicking (every 4-5 sec.).

I guess it's time to find new o-rings and seals, it obviously can't hold pressure.

Any kits available online? ebay prefered.

Went out to car last night and tried pushing Band button- no difference. Pushed Band button at same time as Radio On button- music. Radio came alive with the word Citroen in the panel--BUT with an on/off bleeping sound from radio, which rapidly got on my nerves, and turned it off. Repeated attempts gave the same results.
