O/S Rear brake pipe wanted.

Post by RoadkillUK »

Where can I get a O/S Rear brake pipe, either pre-made or just a length with the ends on? I'd prefer somewhere local to Leeds, almost anywhere in West Yorkshire as I have transport.

The reason I need a new pipe is because I've been changing the rear brake disks and pads, also removing and swapping the Calipers over as the dreaded rust has been very active. I've looked at where it broke and it looks to have rusted so it was due to go anyway (at least that's what I've convinced myself).

I believe they're still available new from dealers but they're rather pricey and hard to fit...

Much better to have a natter with Martin and the lads at Pleiades. They'll make you up one from Kunifer and pop it in the post to you...

Being Kunifer it'll be a bit malleable and easy to fit...

Cheers for the reply, I've bodged it for now (capped the hose), it's not going anywhere but I couldn't leave it where it was. Will look into these, thanks.

I've been reading a thread from April this year where KennyW had a similar issue, it would seem that the pipe I'm looking for is 96 106 390. In the same thread KennyW has linked a chap on ebay that sells by the metre too.

Thanks, folks.

I got one from Plaeides a couple of weeks ago. Martin sent it first class next day, and charged about £17. Good service 8-)

I just thought I'd show you the state of my rear disks, the calipers are well oxidised and I'm swapping them over.

That's impressively bad! Mine were, surprisingly, serviceable - despite changing out the original pads at 130k!

I was trying to convinve my self that the NS pipe was not leaking where it went in the caliper, but it clearly was weeping - and sure it had been before I messed it around. No doubt the OS will follow suit soon....

I got my pipe this morning, not fit it yet but I have been busy bending it to shape, I've done the 2 ends and I'll make the spiral when I find something that fits :)

   MIne were nowhere near as bad as that, how long have they been on I wonder? I live on the coast and expect a smidgin (?) of corrosion, but bl**dy hell, i am quite shocked that any car could be on the road with brakes in that state.
I've had no reason to take the rear wheels off since I got the car, I wrongly thought something like that would be noticed on the MOT :)

Here's a pic of the new pipe and I'll soon have it in the car (tomorrow).

Well, it's the up/down when removing the wheel for bleeding really, that's all.

The bleed pipe popped off while bleeding and there's luminescent green fluid on the road now ;)

I would like to add that the replacement pipe came with 10mm ends, much easier to work with, which brings me to ask, what size are the original ones, I had to us a miniature pair of stilson type pliers on mine, did a lovely job mind.

P.S. I never knew the car stayed level when braking, mine has always nosedived! :)
