Xantia Windscreen

Post by spigven »

Is it feasible to replace a mark one Xantia windscreen with a second hand unit ?

The car is sorn'd and uninsured and well beyond economic repair, despite this I started to replace the heater matrix and have managed to crack the windscreen while I was removing the scuttle trim (too much heat ? ).

Thanks

Mark

Unlikely - as you have found out, cracking them is easy, and it is virtually impossible to remove a donor screen without breaking it.

I bought in a xantia years ago with a cracked screen... otherwise a perfect body!!

I had no MOT on it or tax, however, I insured the car and then claimed for a screen, which was duely replaced.. no Q's asked, and then I mot'd the car and used it for 6 months...

So it is possible to get it done insurance wise, without an MOT... Also claming does not affect yur no claims, or at least it shouldn't..

I have removed and replaced bonded screens before without breaking them. It's hard to get one out though. A lot of cutting with very sharp stanley knife did the trick. Took a long time though.

My Xantia has a second hand windscreen fitted to it, The local auto glazer charges about £30 to remove a screen and £30 to fit again.
