C5 Bigger Wheels?

Post by hamster99 »

Does anyone know if the C5 (2005 vintage) had an option for larger wheels/tyres. Mine have 16" but I'm going to need a full set of new tyres soon and just thinking about whether 17"/18" ones were available as optional when new. There seems to be plenty of room under the wheel arches.

Think 16's were as large as they went, you can still go aftermarket so long as you get wheels fitted with a lower profile tyre so the rolling radius is still the same, the speedo and tachometer will be out otherwise. Its something i'm considering but i'm struggling to find wheels i like. PCD you need is 4 x 108, offset of 15-25.
(bear in mind the bigger the wheel you get the more crashy the ride gets)

Thanks for that. I was hoping for a Citroen option as I don't really want to go aftermarket. Good point about the ride quality. Don't want that to suffer - after all, it's why many of us have C5's.

Don't do it, you will ruin the ride.

Its just a pity Citroen don't do any decent looking alloy wheels. (in my eyes)

Nice but don't fit, 5 stud as opposed to 4 stud for the MKI.

The only wheels I can see fitting from the Citroen range are the 17" ones from well equipped C4s (original ones) and the C4 Picassos. There were a number of wheels available for the Picasso, which I think use a 4 stud design. Im sure the range toppers had 18"s as an option.

I've recently bought a 2001 C5 HDi 2.2 with the 16" wheels. As it needed 2 tyres I compared the cost of the 215/55 x 16 with the 195/65 x 15. Both Michelin at £120 and £68 respectively. I obtained a set of 15" alloys from a C5 in a breakers (2 good, 2 poor tyres) and bought two 195/65 for the front. I expected a better ride quality from the narrower higher profile 15" tyres, but I'm not sure. My wife thinks it rode better on the 16"s. Any comments from those more experienced with C5s than me??

Ive never put 16" wheels on a C5 with 15" wheels nor the other way around, so I can't directly compare on one car. However to me the 15" wheeled cars do ride better. Perhaps this is because they are earlier cars which do seem to ride softer than the later ones anyway.

I prefer the drive of 16" wheeled C5s, the steering feel is better and its not as wooly. I also think C5s look under-wheeled on 15" alloys.

However, yes, tyres are almost half the price!

Thanks Chris. I went for a longish run yesterday and it still doesn't feel as good on the 15" wheels despite new Michelins on the front. I've checked the rims and they are perfectly true. May get them rebalanced. Oh well, I'm committed now, but may try refitting the 16" ones for a week or so tro see if it's all in the mind!
