Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Has anyone driven both the V6 Xantia and the V6 406?

Just been comparing, I've noticed the Xantia has a lot more engine noise, but far superior comfort...

Thoughts on both? Thought they were pretty much the same vehicle

Well she's all fixed up now, and running nicer than ever!
The damaged was quite bad, looks like I was lucky the belt only jumpted a tooth or two, was very close to destroying the whole thing!

Right, been here a few weeks ago with a TCT Xm and now need to tackle the
same task on a V reg with AC. Is there any nasty gotcha that is particularly
evil? I found it wearisome on the Xm but just a mechanical undo remove
and refit job dropping the whole turbo away enough to get in and swap the
metallic 40 quid gasket.

the rear end has been vibrating 60mph and above. I thought it might be the height corrector so greased that, the lever moves much more freely but I have the following occuring

-when setting it to middle height the rear wont lift,
-middle to the upper settings it still wont lift.
-upper setting to middle drops to lowest height
-lower to upper...

Ah, the dog bone looked ok not broken, but I didn't check movement of the other control rod to see if it was sticking, presumeably thats the problem, I did grease it thoroughly, maybe it needs working some more to loosen it up

I'm not having a good day. Decided to do the front discs and pads on the c5, since I am on hols for a week. 1st problem, locking wheel nut remover broke after taking off one nut. Oh well do that side then worry about how to get nuts off. 2nd problem trolley jack, only 3 months old decided not to work. Use cars sicissors jack. Got caliper off ok...

Just got back for a few hours myself this evening. I improved the brakes a bit by bleeding them last Sunday but I'll be using the C5 to get down t' south coast tomorrow. I might be taking it easy...

As some of you know, I am dismantling an XM just now that is half owned by Andrew and I - it's a 2.0Sei and needs to be gone the week after next as it has been stored at work and work is moving to new offices.

Andmcit, contact me please as I won't be able to store the big body panels for any length of time! Am happy to remove them if you're happy...

Hi all,

The ABS light will not go out on my xantia, the brakes still seem to work fine, but I am assuming one of the sensors is faulty. How do find out which one it is without having to replace them all?

I will check the obvious sh*t on the sensors but I am not that lucky. So if there anyway of knowing or testing each sensor?

Easy and quick solution would be to measure resistances with a multimeter.

i wanna remove my thermostat from my hdi, cos im not sure if its in trouble or not, i changed my coolant last week and since i changed it the car is overheating a little bit more, it was already overheating.

so now i need to know how to remove the thermostat, so that i can throw it into a pot of boiling water to test it, do i just need...

there is hot air coming out of the air vents, afer bout 5 mines of the engine warming up, same temperature air as before the coolant change

i was told to gaffer tape a coke bottle upside down in teh coolant reservoir and vut the base off it, and release...

I called Europarts today for replacement Spheres, they can find all on their system other than Front Hydractive - so question is are they the same and I order 2 rear ones?

Also I replaced regulator sphere on my CX Safari with XM Front Hydractive as it has larger capacity 50cl and pressure 70, are they the same on Xantia?

I'm surprised only 50 BAR is on Accumulator sphere.
That accumulator (SC/MAC) is the anti-sink accumulator, not the front one attached to the engine, be careful when you unscrew an anti-sink sphere as there is the serious risk of twisting the hydraulic supply pipe off, make sure you loosen the union then hold a spanner on the union as you undo...

Been asked to do a cambelt on a 1.4 XU engine where the pulley wheel failed. I know there will be bent bits inside the head, but does anybody know if it is both inlet and exhaust or just one set?

Checked the archive, but very little details on this lump. Nice car though, no rust and worth saving. May appear here in the for sale forum, once it is...

hi all.ive heard that there is a pre fuel primer on a 1.9td that primes the fuel before it starts..........as mine dont work n i have to prime the car 1st thing on a morning which is a pain i was wondering if any1 knows where its located on the engine n why it would pack up?...... cheers guys :)

Hi, My Xantia Estate 1996 1.9TD is having issues with the driver lock and central locking off the plip.
Symptoms

I changed the battery on one of the key plips. Red LED ligh shows up and car 'sometimes' locks, but the driver door does its own thing. Sometimes works sometimes does not. I have tried to reset the plip using the 1 key in...

With the plip not working, I now unlock manually with the key, but lately, it's become more difficult at times to remove the key without a little force. Also, when pushing the key into the lock, it sometimes goes (maybe) half way and then seems to hit an obstruction. So now use passenger lock to...

my wifes picasso needed a bit of attention after the tell tale humming sound told me one of the front wheel bearings was on it's way.
I had a few on the shelf bought for a BX 17TZD I had 8 years ago but were never needed :)

It has done 61,000 miles and was still on its original pads and discs but as they were showing signs too and I didn't want...

I've found an immaculate condition Plip Key for the Xantia in my local breakers and was wondering if there's any way of tranferring the innards and the key blade to the new unmarked key..?

Hi,

Came across the new (proposed?) MOT requirements from 2012 onwards.

What caught my eye was the inclusion of tyre pressure monitoring systems if installed as original equipment. A failed sensor being a failure!

Not clear how they would test this as car needs to be >25mph to operate. Also if de activated by lexia it would not show up.

Hi,
I'm looking to change the gearbox oil on my c5 HDI. I can't find the filling hole on the gearbox. The gearbox does not look like the MLT5 one and I have no idea where to look. Does anyone have a photo of the filling point?

Hi All.

I have a Citroen C5 which has auto lights and auto wipers.

I will start with th auot lights first. If i turn this on per the hadn book i get confirmation it's on via the display but the light never come on.

The auto wipers when the stalk is plced into the auto postion i get northng on the display and the wipers work just like...

i was over on pug306.net and there was a thread there that said that if u d/c the air con by unplugging a white (dirty) sensor - near the oil filter, and then d/c the connector to the condenser, and then bridge terminals 1 and 3 of this brown connector, that the cooling fans come on at full speed, whenever u turn on the air con in the...

Hi all
Thanks for your help about my bumper removal question,sadly the bumper got sold before i could get it :cry: .
So for time being i thought i would try and change my broken drivers side fog light, but how do you get it off ??? i can do the bottom bracket easy but surely you dont need to take the bumper off ???? :cry: :cry:

Fuel guage in the Dash??

I would be looking at that if you have a faulty one...!

If you remove the clocks from the dash, open them up, and behind the speedo is a small piggy back cuircuit board.... THIS controls the guage and coverts the signal from the tank to the dial... These do play up, and I know this from experiance...

Hi All,

My xantia has developed a rather nasty shudder when braking at high speed, generally over 50mph which is wierd as the last time I had warped discs they shuddered at all speeds? however I can't think of anything else that would cause this so I'm going to replace the discs and pads.

GSF look like they have two types for the 90Hdi, £21.50 or £33.25 each (exc VAT)

Assuming they're similar to the 1.9TD estate brakes:
You'll need a strong T55 bit to get the calipers off to remove the discs, so plenty of plus gas will help.
The discs are held onto the hub by two counter sunk torx screws (T25 I think) and normally they're rusted...

Looking for the opinion and thoughts of diesel C5 owners

I'm fairly sure that no S1 2.0 110 8v have the FAP/EOLYS on them.
Not in UK at any rate. There are some markets that do have a FAP fitted thoough I'm not sue which.

I know the Peugeot 307 2.0 HDi 110 has a FAP fitted, but as you say, no C5s with the 8v HDi did in this country.

I've just this afternoon changed the three rear spheres on my year 2000 Hdi90 saloon. The car has don e 63000 miles. From the service history it had four new spheres in 2006 at 35000 or so IIRC.

It had become a little bumpy recently - we live in the sticks and some of the road surfaces are more like cart tracks than metalled roads.

i had my activa stolen on the 3rd of march, in dublin.

the reg id R531 KHR it was a red xantia activa.

i know it is probably cubed by now, but just in case there is any sighting, please let me know ...

Hi,
Just failed an MOT with leaking exhaust, the centre and rear pieces are holed where the two join. The actual back box and cat are fine. I am wondering if there is a difference between the saloon and estate with regard to the exhaust. ie. can i fit a saloon system onto an estate, or are they different? I'm asking as theres a couple of saloons...

A pussyless xantia certainly runs better. Smoother and a good bit better on the fuel consumption. My S2 is averaging out at 45mpg, the last lot worked out at 46.15 mpg. Tank is brimmed so I can see the diesel at top of neck.
Very happy with that.

Hi,
The LHM level indicator on my Xant S2 has never worked--that is, permanently stuck up into the roof of the glass bowl. Obviously tried tapping it, -no movement whether the car is raised or lowered. Are new ones very expensive ?.

Also had a power steering failure the other day, when going around a roundabout. The pump was twittering away for...

I have an obsession with the XM, one has popped up for sale close to where I live :D She's a 91 V6 SEi auto with 145,000km

A few questions tho;

Will the old PRV have a binge drinking problem compared to my V6 Xantia? (Been told they drink copious amounts)

You cannot beat a PRV for engine intake noise campared to the ESj..

The PRV was designed in the late 60's to early 70's in an eira when engines could make a nice Growl noise.. the ESJ had to be muted for modern reasons...

I am planning on taking our 14 year old faithful Xantia in the coming Easter break to South of Spain (Malaga) via France and back to London. I have every confidence that the old girl will make it there and back but the one who must be obeyed would like some sort of rescue and recovery insurance in case it does not. I know one or two motoring...

I plan on changing all 7 spheres and LHM in a month or so, I have about litre an half of Hydraincage left from when I used on my CX Safari couple of years ago.
Would be of much use if I mixed it with existing LHM :?: before I do a change. more a case of using it up really.

unbelievable really, car due into dealer this week for slipping clutch...today when cleaning car a tyre value just crumbed in my hand and all the air rushed out ! - on goes spare.

should have known better as same thing happened on my pug 207...WHY do the french decide to use metal valves !?!?! :roll:

Would you not fall foul of the MOT if this is going to be included and it did not work properly? If it was fitted as an OE standard, then turning it off or removing it would leave the car subject to a failure.

Hi all,

Can anyone help me with this one? I can't find an answer by searching the Forum.

I have door ajar indicators on the instrument panel, and one of them doesn't go out when the door is securely latched shut in a normal door closing action.

Is there a micro switch or proximity sensor somewhere on the door lock mechanism or wherever that can...

Just wondering if any other C5 owners had encountered noisy (worse than a squeak not as bad as a grating noise!!) hinges on both the rear doors (Mine's a 2007 1.6 Hdi VTR).

The problem seems to come from the middle ?dogleg? hinge which runs into the door and the body of the car. Both hinges look a bit rusty but the inevitable skoosh of...

My pal is worried big time as he plans to use the car for big motorway
mileages and he's certain the car wanders significantly of it's own accord.
He's had the wheels checked and balanced but is still troubled by this issue.

I haven't seen the car myself but have told him to get the front suspension

On an RHD car, Vertvega, the pinion valve won't leak onto the gearbox as it's on the other side! On an LHD car it most certainly would of course. Ref, I'm assuming yours is RHD but if it's LHD then the pinion valve would be a good starting point as VertVega says...

Hi all, I have an anti-sink that is sinking, been told by some on here that it is the valve... Been trawling thru cars service history, no mention of a LHM change...

Would it be advisable to change this and see if the issue cures itself? (thinking gunk in valves etc)

Allways a good idea to flush the system before changing any bits, as for one this can cure some problems and second, when you put the clean bits on, they are not being fitted to a dirty system.

I thought had a problem with the dog bone and that it had broken until i seen it was the clamp... :roll: It had snapped clean off :(

Sorry I'm being lazy and not checking the thread to check which parts are new but if the dogbone is popping off either the ball or the cup is worn IMO.

One thing I did notice was that at certain extremes of clamp position (a well-meaning friend released the clamp without countering the spring pressure), the car would not rise for several minutes,...

You can gain a certain amount of access by removing the headlamp, certainly enough to change the bulb and maybe enough to remove the complete fog lamp.

Last Friday evening after driving about 200 miles and with 30 miles to go my Xantia 2.0 16V (W reg) suddenly overheated. I stopped immediately the red light came on and found the top radiator hose had blown off. After about an hour and a half the hose was reattached and the radiator filled. Update - the engine is back together and so far looking promising. The temperature is stable and there is no evidence of the cooling system pressurising.

Unfortunately there is steam coming off the radiator, so I guess it was damaged by the pressure. More expense. javascript:emoticon(':(')

Although this is a Pug question, it's the same engine as Citroen so I'll ask here first.
Friend's car, won't start, Cranks ok, there is fuel pressure. Are there any known common issues for this ?
He doesn't have a code reader handy but is trying to get hold of one to use.
Where is the CPS on these ?

The 306 HDi has an immobiliser but it's controlled totally by the remote locking fob and doesn't show any lights in the car.
