weak interior fan ?

Unread post by HDI »

Are interior ventilation blower fans weak on Xantia's ? The speed on mine seems fine , the auto setting seems to max it out from the sound of it but there isn't much force at the vents !
Compared to my Mitsubishi Evo , which is a standard Lancer trim and equipment wise , it's pathetic ! The Evo's fan will blow yer sunglasses off !!

My guess is the pollen filter needs changing.

Mine doesn't have the most powerful fan on earth. I guess it's because demisting is supposed to be carried out in conjunction with air con (the air con engages with the slider in the demist position), rather than using brute force!

Under the passenger foot well, flop down the carpet and there is a rectangular panel about 2 inches wide or so.
It slides sideways, but I can't recall exactly in which direction.
Once you've managed to get it off, pull out the manky old filter and remember which way round it fits, then slot in the new one.
Might be worthwhile also using one of those aircon sanitiser sprays too as they're only around £10

You have a real aversion towards manuals and handbooks, don't you?

:D

I wasn't at home where the Paynes and owners manual's are.
TBH the Paynes manual is a waste of time anyway and if the pollen filter location is in the owners manual I'll chew a 21mm socket !

Xantia blower

Hi, they can start to get a bit slow if the brushes
on the motor are getting worn. I have had to replace mine and my friends. You can get brushes from any small firm who "does up car electrical motors and dynamos", you will have to buy a slightly larger size and carefully sand them down to size until they fit. Should'nt cost more than £2. Worth a try! Gerry

Thats the thing though , the motor sounds fine , plenty of action but not much air from the vents.
Will have time tomorrow to check the pollen filter. Spose it could be blocked with leaves and stuff.
I just like to have a good blast of air when it gets warm outside and also for demisting , de-icing etc !

Slide the cover off allong the cover's length towards the driver's seat.
The pollen filter goes in with the pointy end towards the passenger front wheel, will find out tomorrow if the longer edge is towards the engine or not, totally forgot about that bit of info today when I was lending Jim a hand.

A tip, when you're trying to find how the pollen filter cover actually comes off, don't put your head in the passenger footwell for a better look, realise how it slides off then pull it off. I did and was covered with all this dust/flies etc... My filter was so clogged up that I genuinly thought the original colour was black.
The blower does work a LOT better now it can kick air through more easily!
